Rasheed Wallace, never one to be bashful, is setting a standard for his new team — the Boston Celtics — that seems completely unattainable. He thinks they can make a run at the Chicago Bulls' 72-win season.

Wallace: Oh definitely. Definitely, playing with those three other guys, also combining that with the guys we have on the bench, I think we definitely can. Me personally, I think we can get that Bulls record. You know we have the talent for it. We have the will for it and ... I think we have the defense for it.

[Thomas Halzack]: Do you want me to use that?

Wallace: You can. Because honestly, I really do feel that. That was a good team. They had some HOFs on there, but we have a few on this team, too.

If Garnett, Pierce, Allen and Wallace were all in their prime they might have a decent shot at 72 wins. But back in the real world - barring another serious injury to one of the Big 3 ( or Big 4 ) I would be very happy if this current Celtics team won 60 games.

Which is not too shabby anyways.

I dont give a fuck personally if they do or they don't. As long as they send Kobe, his ENORMOUSLY large ego, and the rest of the "Fakers" packing this year.

By the way, other than Kobe...what HOF'ers is he talking about? Derek Fisher IS NOT a hof'er, sorry.

Boston won 62 games last year and were strong in the playoffs without Garnett and without Wallace. I see no reason to think that a 70 plus win season is out of the question.  the Celtics are still very good. Remember, they took Orlando to 7 without Garnett, and they have a good chance to be better this year, barring injury.  I know the big stars are getting older, but the rest of the crew are young and improving.

He's talking about the Bulls team that won 72 games. They had Jordan and possibly Pippen and Rodman, plus Phil Jackson (and Robert Parrish too, though he didn't play much).

As in "The Chief" Robert Parrish from the old 80's Celtics? No shit...had no idea.

Well the Celtics are now 6 - 0 so they would only have to go 66 - 10 the rest of the way. I find it funny that after only playing 5 games the New Jersey Nets are already 5.5 games behind Boston.

six games doesn't say much, but they won last night without even trying until the fourth quarter...they are embarrassingly solid defensively, the second team would be a playoff contender,  and Rajon Rondo is a STAH- his breakout season is underway

plus Garnett looks pretty healed and is leading the way

"barring injuries" (of course) the Celtics are the team to beat, in the East at least

I have seen them twice this season and this Celtics team look scary.  It may be a honeymoon euphoria and thing may change, but right now they look awesome in every aspect of the game.

If Kevin Garnett didn't get hurt last year the Celtics would have won the title and it would be time to think of a 3 peat. Rondo is overrated by the way.

They probably would have made the Finals. And then maybe their team D might have slowed down Kobe and Gasol enough to pull it out.

There are times when Rondo looks like one of the best point guards out there and then he can quickly turn into someone who looks like he has never played the game before. The Celtics just re-signed him ( 5 years at $ 55 million ) so hopefully he can start to play a more mature game. You have to remember that Rondo is only 23 so hopefully playing beside Ray Allen a few more years will help refine his game to where he can play a more steady style.

Like I said...as long as the fucking "Fakers" and Kobe don't win it this year, I'd be happy w/anyone else taking it.
