If you're looking for non-wrestling background stuff to ask about, do some research on his Canadian Football League career. Guy's a CFL legend.

I love Gary's interviews. Great site.

Also thanks to Gary for getting Ox Baker on. Gary also helped me get in touch with Ox again after a few years and we are bringing him back to Chicago next month for an autograph session.
Clawmaster gets kudos too. Proud to call him a friend.
All I can say is when Ox sees Claw again, watch out!
Anything can happen and probably will.

Gary- if there's time have Mosca tell the story about the week he traveed with Ric Flair. It'll give everyone an idea of both what a generous guy Flair is, and why he's broke.

Gary's shoots are by far the most entertaining things about the business in a decade. Way to go.

Well, I enjoy Dave Meltzer alot and subscribed to the Observer from '89 to 2004 until it just wasn't worth it because I didn't watch anything any more. But I still loved his historical pieces but there was too much other stuff I didn't care to read about. But your interviews are opening up whole new horizons and giving me lots of entertainment. Appreciate it a lot.

From a big picture standpoint, the interviews are actually preserving wrestling history way beyond what anyone has done before. Considering there's no financial interest involved, it's a really noble cause.

Getting Claw involved was a coup. The booking sheet interviews are great, and add a level of detail and depth that's amazing.

Props to your boss for letting you do this.

Any chance of getting Terry Funk in the future?

Gary do you have an idea when you and Larry will continue with St. Louis? I'm really looking forward to 1977 and when you guys finally get to the 1960's results. The conversations him and you are having are the best pro wrestling related history shoots/interviews I've ever heard. You guys are putting out some really, really quality stuff Gary.
Also I wish Buddy Landell would turn up again as his three interviews were top notch also.
Any chance we'll ever hear you do some of these interviews with Leo Burke? If you get an opportunity can you ask Larry's opinion of him as Leo comes up quite often in the results you guys do as Tommy Martin in St. Louis.
I pretty sure he's still living out in Calgary and I'm sure Rick Martel would be able to get in touch with him to ask about an interview as they are friends. Actually could you ask Rick about Leo and his brothers. Rick worked in their territory in The Maritimes when he was younger and even came back in '84 as AWA champ and had a title match with Leo at The Halifax Forum.

We are working on Terry Funk ... my guess is that sometime soon he might give us a try

Credit Claw for getting Claw involved ... it was his offer and I gladly accepted

Larry and I will do 1977 later this week (with any luck)

right now the schedule for the rest of the week is:

Jim Cornette, Reno Riggins 2, Greg Gagne 2, Rick Martel Hawaii, JP 1966, Ox Baker 1975 and 1976, LM 1977 and maybe a few surprises

thank you for the kind comments ... they make my day ...

Where is the Riggins one on there? It's quite possible I just missed it, but I also had trouble locating the first JJ Dillon one, too last night.

I agree with the title of this post, Gary kicks ass.  In fact, I think I may be the first one to mention Gary here.

I agree that there is so much history being discussed that will hopefully live forever and maybe 50 or 60 years from now, 57talk.com may actually be a major part of pro wrestling history.  We'll see.  It's like Larry being with Sam in St. Louis in the 60s and 70s.  You never know what you're involved with from a historical perspective until it becomes history.

Okay, two questions for Gary.  Why is putting Vince McMahon out of business such a major topic of conversation?  I don't really feel like WCW in the later years was anywhere near the product that WWE was and I believe that a current WCW would be a much more horrible product than current WWE.  It seems like you believe WCW should have won the war and put WWE out of business.  I'm not a WWE defender and have no emotional ties to them, I'm just curious about the very strong feelings against them.  Why the hate for Ric Flair as a performer?  Once again, I'm not a Ric Flair defender and many people on various sites, including this one also (like you) believe that he is over rated and we know all about his personal issues.  But, I'm not understanding why he is to blame for the fact that he 'had to lose' as a bad guy with the title.  I don't think he really had to lose so much until Dusty became booker in Crockett.  I've seen Flair successfully defend his title in Oregon, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Japan, Missourri, and in the Mid Atlantic area prior to Dusty's arrival.  To me, Nick Bockwinkel, who is an AMAZING talent looked like he was booked VERY weak against Hulk Hogan prior to Hogan's departure (from my limited viewing of tapes\DVDs), but you still respect him as a talent.

I love the site, keep doing what you're doing.  I love the fact that it's not only free, but overflowing with interviews to listen to that I can put on my Blackberry and take with me.  I love the passion that you have for your opinions.  The fact that you have opinions is another thing that makes your interviews better than the competition, in addition to all of the obious reasons.  Finally, I've never had a desire to ask any shoot interviewer questions like these before, because almost every other one is pretty much a lifeless bad question asker reading from a script.
