Monsoon was horrible.

Pettingill made people want to change the channel.

Some other bad ones. Michael St. John. Corey Macklin.

And I get a kick out of the Kent love just the same.

Charlie Platt. He did Southeastern (80's 'Bama/Gulf Coast version) before Solie, then returned around 88. I agree that he is pretty good.

I have to reassess what I have said about Trongard in the past. I have been watching more old film and have come to the conclusion that SOMETIMES Hot Rod is as bad as they come, but OTHER times he is pretty good. Sauce, maybe? I don't know, but he seems like a different guy sometimes.

This thread had kind of a deja vu thing going on for me. As for a one-off announcing job that was TERRIBLE - Art Donovan at King of the Ring 94. Just kept asking questions about pro wresling and had no idea what he was talking about.

I think Bayou nailed it on Tronguard...he would go from doing a tremendous job getting a match/angle over to saying something completely stupid in the span of two seconds.  He was actually excellent in covering the post-match chaos of Hennig/Bockwinkel from SuperClash.

You may recall the WWF actually put Pettingill in the booth as the first commentator for Action Zone.  It was enough to make you feel sorry for Jim Ross.

Nobody has mentioned Don West yet??!  Dear Lord...

This might not be a popular opinion and on WC or KFM would probably get me banned, but I find Johnny Weaver to be pretty execrable on NWA Pro.

Jack Reynolds and Tex McKenzie have to be considered for the worst duo ever.

Steve McMichael.

Let's take a guy who's never been around the business and throw him into primetime. We'll also make any manliness he tries to exude moot by letting him parade around a Chihuahua in a different outfit every week.

Mark Madden could probably be up for nomination as well.

Agree on both. Mongo still does radio occasionally in Chicago.

I'll third those picks.

McMichael was so annoying and attempted so hard to play the knowledgeable tough guy act that it went way over the top and turned the broadcasts into acts of stupidity.  When he joined the Horsemen made it all even worse.

I still got to put up with Madden in The Burgh.

Seconded. That was some awful stuff.

I always hated Lee Marshall. The other one I never had any use for and still don't was Lord James Blears.

Fucking BRUTAL.

I always thought Gordon Solie in the later years was  pretty bad. In the overall sense he just seemed lost, for the business as a whole had passed him by. He never seemed comfortable or maybe clear of what he was suppose to do, get over the match or get over the entire company?

Hell trying to sell some of crap matches/angles he had to call in later years for WCW probably had a lot to do with it.  Maybe because he wasnt allowed to smoke and drink during the telecasts took some fun out of it for him. He wouldnt be the first guy I have heard of who gave up on work when he wasnt allowed to drink on the job.

Whenever Art's name is brought up I always think of his K.O.T.R. performance & about this terrible fucking story I saw him tell on an NFL film years ago about some fellow teammate that ate like 90 hard boiled eggs

Before anyone craps on him I just let it be known that I have always enjoyed Lord Alfred's announcing.

Gorilla is pretty good in my opinion to.

Kal Rudman was disgusting.  But...  as we all know he was kept around for his contacts which paid off immensely for Vince McMahon.  Just think of the Lauper involvement leading to Wrestlemania.  Where did that come form and who was the main contact...  Kal Rudman

Rudman singlehandedly ruined many Spectrum Tv broadcasts. If you watch some MSG shows from '79/80, Vince would mention him and his stature in the music biz and put him on the mic from time to time also.
