Not just pushed into something he clearly did not want to do, nor had any real ability at, but pushed as being "the best athlete out of all the boys".

You can tell me he had a real choice to do something else besides wrestle, but I won't believe it.

That's the thing, he had no choice. The only choice he probably ever got to make for himself was to do what he did in the end.

I remember one interview... Bill Mercer or Lowrance had all of the brothers at ringside.  Mike was getting ready to make his debut against Akbar.  One of the VE's mentioned that Mike was the best athlete of them all, and  Mike looked embarrassed and that he couldn't wait to get away from the camera.

anyone see the footage of Mike right after the Toxic Shock Syndrome?  There was a press conference with Mike, Fritz, the doctor, etc...Mike looked nearly dead (which he was), his eyes were strange and he was slurring words. All Fritz could talk about was his comeback at the stadium show.  Very few wrestlers I feel sad about, but to this day I have trouble with what happened to Mike.

When they try to ask Mike when people can expect to see him in action, he can only mumble something about going to the upcoming Cotton Bowl show. I'm surprised they showed it on TV since it was clear his brain was mush at that point.

Here is the way I view the Von Erich's:

They really did not impress me at all.  I just could not get in the hype.

In saying that, I do respect their following in World Class.  The crowds were absolutely nuts over them, so they were doing something right for that area.

I think they are another case of a territory dictating what they like.

Watching tapes of WCCW nowadays, it's amazing that they got over as much as they did. David had ability, Kerry had the physique, but they weren't all that.

Fritz got them over HUGE though.

(Obviously) I was a Freebird guy anyway. :D
