Kicks off on Saturday. I love when there is Saturday football.

Saturday afternoon has Arizona at New Orleans. Saturday night has Baltimore at Indy.

Sunday has Dallas at Minnesota. Jets at San Diego later on.

Just a few thoughts (opinions)

The Saints have been cold for a month now. Can't imagine the Cards having much left after last week though.

The Ravens are playing their fourth straight road game and vs a team that has been "resting" for weeks now.

Dallas at Minnesota. Everybody loves the Cowboys here. Not sure I'd take Romo over Favre in a big game. The defenses and running games are comparable. The Cowboys are the hottest team in football right now. Potentially the best game of the weekend.

Jets at San Diego. As much as I like the Chargers I have a nervous feeling that this game could be trouble from a matchup standpoint. You have a solid defense (Jets) playing at it's peak and pretty much being able to key in on one side of the ball (San Diego will not be able to run on them)

I like some upsets.

Arizona
Jets
Colts
Dallas

Boy, would that be an ugly situation if it happened.

Jets...arrgghhhrrgg
%^$%^&*%$&  Jets

Baltimore kicked the shit out of New England, period
that is a dangerous team and they quite possibly would have beaten SD or Indy last sunday too

and they quite possibly will beat both in the next two weeks

%^&*^%$#@ Jets.......

Ravens vs. Colts - Colts are rested.  That doesn't necessarily mean a win, especially with the Ravens playing so well against NE.  Ravens are inconsistent though, big time.

Arizona vs. New Orleans - I can't wait for this one.  AZ's defense tired out fast against GB last week, but NO has proven that their defense isn't as great as many thought.  It should be a high scoring affair and my pick is AZ because they're just awesome.

Dallas vs. Minnesota - Dallas has gotten hot and are really playing good football.  MN is still good too, but after that loss to Chicago, my vote stays with Dallas.

NYJ vs. San Diego - Jets look good, but SD is the best team in the NFL right now, IMO.  That sucks for me to admit, because I can't stand Norv Turner or Rivers, but I don't see the Jets upsetting them.

Saints are lighting it up. Warner might throw for 600 to catch up.

They said that the Saints will be in their first ever NFC title game...I could swear they played in one before?

As shitty as my Lions are...they played in one in '91.

Thats what i thought...then why did they say that on tv? I thought "With all the talent they had there in the 80's/90s-Jackson/Mills/Hebert/Heyward/Swilling/etc....they should've at least made one NFC title game?"

Thanks for  confirming it.

The 80's till mid 90's were the Niners dynasty years. The Saints would have had a hard time coming in second in their division.

The Who Dat Nation of course!  Let 'em tie and we walk into the SB.

You guys really miss out not being here in Louisiana.  The Saints radio network has Bobby Hebert and Deke Bellavia hosting the pre-game show.  You've never experienced a pre-game radio show until you hear a couple of coon asses on the radio.

I like Favre as well.

BTW - I am in a pretty good position in the NFC. My favorite team is the Cowboys, my second favorite team is the Saints and Brett Favre is one of my favorite players. A Saints/Cowboys NFC Title game will be my SuperBowl.

Homo throws an INT at his own 20

Cowboys O line sucks. Minn has 6 sacks

..and their CB's stink. Do they know how to even attempt to defend Rice?

Not sure what you are seeing, but the coverage on that last TD was like a blanket. Great throw and catch by Favre and Rice.

Skol Vikings, let's win this game,
Skol Vikings, honor your name,
Go get that first down,
Then get a touchdown.
Rock 'em . . . Sock 'em
Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Go Vikings, run up the score,
You'll hear us yell for more. . .
V-I-K-I-N-G-S
Skol, Vikings, let's go!

Very late Favre-to-Shiancoe TD pass to make the score 34-3, I would guess.

It was 4th and 3 from inside the 20 with less than 2 minutes to go, up by 24 points and they go for it instead of kicking the FG.

Vikings whipped the Cowboys' ass today. Romo has his ass whipped all day and was running for his life

With that said, Tony Romo had a career year and finished as one of the Top 5 QBs in the NFL this year. I challenge any of you that have talked shit on him all year to give him his props. He deserves them.

Meanwhile, out on the west coast, San Diego goes up 7-0 on a Rivers to Wilson td pass...

BUT, my sense is the game is being played at a tempo much more favorable to the Jets.

San Diego rushed only 15 times today...what a crock of shit. That and a kicker missing 3 field goals, you aint gonna win no matter WHO you play.

I never bet against my team. I really think and thought before the plaoffs started that we can win it all.
Actually the the team that worried me the most: was The Ravens. I knew we could beat The Bengals...The Chargers were ripe for the pickings, was I the only one who saw that? Granted I thought the Chargers was probably going to be a very tough game. I'm glad we're playing Indy now as I was hoping for them to beat The Ravens yesterday. The Jets always play Indy tough.

Minnesota is the team that's got me scared now, but if we play them in the SB I think we have a chance to beat them. They will beat them.

BTW sorry about your Chargers and your choke artist kicker.

I am glad for the Jets but my question is - what has to happen next week for your pick to really occur? I'd say they have to get on the board early, of course play tight D, but also hope for a few breaks. You know the Colts are thinking they need to put a couple of scores up fast, knock the Jets off their game right away, because the past 2 weeks teams have let the Jets hang around and have gotten burned.

Yeah, I mentioned even after the Bolts took a lead in the 2nd that the tempo favored the Jets.  The Jets don't strike me as an effective come from behind team, but let them hang close and they are very, very dangerous.

This has been a long time coming for me as a fan. I've only ever seen them make it this far just the once, back in '99 with Vinnie and Martin when they lost to Denver in the AFC championship game.
I was a little to young in '82/'83 when they lost to Miami. I was 8 years old and not a big football fan at the time.

It should be a fun game.  I still think the Colts have proven that they're motivated by the talk of them lying down the final two weeks enough to cream them.

I think you pretty much have it there. I just don't want to see what we saw at the end of this game with them not being able to put their opponent away and let THEM hang around until the end. Over on the Jets board I usually hand around at during the games a lot of Jet fans tend to shit on our defense as not being able to put teams away, but it's the opposite I think it rides on the offense. We couldn't get a first down to save us at the end of that game for the life of us(well for most of the 1rst half too, but lets not talk about that :) ). Sanchez has to start making some short quick passes to get some confidence early so they don't rely so much on the run. I really like this matchup for some reason as I mentioned earlier and was actually hoping for INDY yesterday. Even though if The Ravens had of won the AFC Championship game would be at The Meadowlands next week. The more I think about it though, what a way to close out Giants Stadium with the Jets beating The Ravens for a shot a the SB? :D

Hats off to the Jets.  I wasn't a believer, and I'm not sure I am yet, but they tackled like men today.  The Chargers had the right strategy going with short passes, but the Jets made first contact count.  They didn't go in with the gangsta hits that pass for tackling in the current game, they wrapped up with their arms and brought guys down.

But that last series was fun, when it was 4th and a yard and you could read Ryan's lips where right away he said "we're going for it" - he had faith in them, because had something gone wrong they would have been in a tight spot right there.

I was wondering if Ryan would change his mind, and they would to go to the line and try to get SD offsides or take a delay of game then punt, but when Sanchez called timeout you knew they were serious. Nice drama there.

I told you all he sucked. He cant win the big game....he's crappy. I'd take Matthew Stafford over this dude anyday. I dont give a fuck if he's one of the "top 5 qb's in the league"? that might be true...but he cant win the big one, or get his team there. Aaron Rodgers had a better year than Homo did, and he'd be ranked MUCH higher IMO, than your man HOMO. Plus, Rodgers doesn't have a great team, like the Cowboys did? No way does he have the wr's/RB/s they do in Dallas.

Stingy, he can't be one of the top 5 QBs in the league and suck at the same time. Do you even read what you type before you post one of these rants?

You have such an incredible hate on for so many athletes, in so many different sports, it makes reading your judgment of them useless. Is it a jealousy thing? Do you hate because they get huge amounts of money, are famous and adored by their fans, date the finest women?

**(that's probably it, isn't it...you have a mental picture of Tony Romo donkey-punching Jessica Simpson and you hate him for doing it instead of you, right?)

What did I miss?

Very late Favre-to-Shiancoe TD pass to make the score 34-3, I would guess.

It was 4th and 3 from inside the 20 with less than 2 minutes to go, up by 24 points and they go for it instead of kicking the FG.

Oh that. Big fucking deal. I thought I missed something after the game.

So...what's your point? I was simply giving Romo the benefit of the doubt as a supposed "top 5 qb". I dont think he is...but thats my opinion. I actually dislike alot of folks who people put on pedestals.....yes,  I'm sure they're great, but still.

Yes, he got to DP Jessica Simpson...lucky fucker. Plus, he's always smiling, why?

I don't know how many analysts would peg Romo as a top-five quarterback.  From what I see, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Donovan McNabb, Kurt Warner, and probably Brett Favre are rated better than him.  At best, he would be ranked with Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Carson Palmer, Matt Hasselbeck, Jay Cutler, Joe Flacco, and Matt Ryan.  He gets a lot of press because he's quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.  Mediocre-to-decent quarterbacks like Danny White, Gary Hogeboom, and Quincy Carter have gotten a lot of press because they were quarterbacks for the Dallas Cowboys.  Romo isn't horrible, and he's a legit starting quarterback in the NFL.  Are there better starting players at the position in the NFL?  Definitely.  Are there worse starting players at the position in the NFL?  Definitely.

Good points on Romo.
He's in the top 10 for 2010, IMO

1. Peyton
2. Brees
3. Warner
4. Favre
5 Rivers
6. Rogers
7. McNabb
8. Eli
9. Ben
10. Romo

Alot of guys, like Carson Palmer and Matt Hasselback, are getting by on reputation only. I never thought I'd rank Warner that high, but if I had to put my life on the line and have one of these QB's save it, that's how I'd draft 'em for this year at least.

That 5 TD, 400+ yd game he had a few weeks ago, and the fact that he's taken 2 different teams to a SB, is proof the guy can fucking play. Neither ST Louis, nor AZ would be dick right now if it weren't for Warner. Vice versa Im sure...but still, the guy can fucking play.

Warner had a bunch of help in St. Louis from this guy named Marshall Faulk. Maybe you've heard of him.

Yeah, cuz Faulk ran the offense? Faulk won them that SB? Doubtful.  Faulk was a big part of that offense in St Slouis, but, Faulk was there BEFORE Warner? and what did they do then? Give Warner the credit he's due...he's a damn good qb, and  is better than over half of the qb's in the league today, even @ 40.

I think Faulk came the same yr as Warner did, so that point is incorrect. and Warner started to tail off as Faulk started slowing down just saying in STL.

WOW, a good point from KK18. Warner & Faulk contributed hand and hand to each others success.

No, Faulk came in in '94 w/the Colts, where he did ok...then got traded to the Rams in '99. C'mon man...stp the Warner hate. Im not a Warner  bandwagin jumper, he's been good for a very long time. This guy was stocking shevles @ one time in his career. Then he's a starting qb, and leads 3 different teams to a SB , winning one. I dont know too many guys that have done that? Did you see what he did in that 1st rd game? not too many 40yr old qbs can do that.

Plus, from 2002-2006, Faulks production actually went DOWN, while Warner's has stayed up. Maybe not in NY? but what a resurgence in AZ?

For the record, Faulk was traded to the Rams after the 1998 season and became the starter in 1999. While technically signed by the Rams in 1998, Warner played in the NFL Europe league that year and became the backup during the 1999 season pre-season. The rest is history. Trent Green goes down in the pre-season an Faulk, Warner and the Rams go on to win the SB.

This actually brings up an interesting list possibility...which front line starting QB going down equated to the most success for both the team and the QB that replaced him?

Warner coming in for Trent Green is a good example.

Jeff Hostetler coming in for Phil Simms is another, not quite so good example.  After all, Simms was having a decent year and the Giants were having an awesome season at the time Hoss came in.  However, I don't think Hoss ever would've gotten his starting chance with the Raiders had Simms not gone down.

Earl Morrall coming in for Bob Griese is another example, but it's closer to Hostetler/Simms.

Brady coming in for Bledsoe is the hands down winner of this list.

Any others?

Dan Pastorini bites the dust in 1980 and Jim Plunkett comes off the bench and marches the Raiders to a super Bowl win.

The Raiders winning that particular Super Bowl was awesome. I think relatively unknown running back Kenny King scored a TD that day.

On an 80-yard pass play, no less.

Here is an interesting truth, when the Rams started depending on Warner to make most of the plays their productivity declined. It started around half time of the Super Bowl against NE.

Originally they used Faulk as a runner and receiver to set up the deeper pass. It was a 60% Faulk to 40% others. As Martz (as OC and then HC) started believing in his mad genius hype the balance shifted the opposite way. They used the deep ball to set up the underneath stuff to Faulk. The consequence was a decline in productivity, and more hits to Warner which took its toll and sharpened the decline.

The fact is Warner and Faulk were an unstoppable combo, but when Martz made Faulk an after thought the offense got exploited.
