Saw Andre for the first time in Soldier Field in a handicap match against Butcher Vachon and Larry Hennig back in 1972.

Yes. Up close and in person. What was really amusing was watching him fit into a tiny little Volkswagon bug after the match was over. The fenders immediately sank to the ground.

His size may have been worked, but he was still a legit huge man.

11/11/79  Green Bay-  He beat Jesse Ventura in a preliminary where Jesse fled the ring and was counted out.  Later he was in a battle royal but wound up eliminated.

10/24/82 Green Bay-  Andre won a handicap match against Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissie and Jerry Blackwell when he pinned Adnan.  Another battle royal appearance here, which ended when he eliminated himself while chasing Bobby Heenan, who had just hurled himself over the top to get away from Andre.

7/31/88  Milwaukee- The WrestleFest cage match against Hogan.

Hey - is anybody else getting their e-mail notifications for this thread in their " Junk e-mail " file ????  All the rest of the thread updates from this site arrive in the " Inbox " but these ones go straight into the Junk e-mail section.

A bunch at MSG. Most memorable was seeing him a few times in small gyms in Staten Island in the late 70's. Once against Spiros Arion and the other as a tag team with Rick McGraw. Awesome to see him close up as a youngster. Against Arion, he chased Spiros through the crowd and people ran for their lives.

many times.  My first was at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, Ny.  Sometime in the early 1970's.  boy as a little kid this guy was nine feet tall.  i never thought this guy could ever lose and never understood why he never held every single title.

OK - I'm still getting e-mail notices in my " Junk E-Mail " file for some threads from this site but some other e-mail notifications arrive in my Inbox. Anybody know why ????

One of my friends in Sturgeon Falls (look it up on a map dipshits) has a newspaper clipping of Andre pie-facing him as a kid.  You can't see his head at all.

I saw him in April or May of 1974. He was working a house show in Fitchburg, MA. he did a tag with Gorilla Monsoon. What I remember most clearly was that Monsoon was not that much smaller than Andre when they stood together.

1974, Wichita, on what I believe was his first big U.S. tour.

Few times in late 80s/early 90s WWF against Savage and Warrior.

Andre may be the one guy in wrestling who grew into his worked weight (he was pretty close to his billed 500 pounds toward  the end) while shrinking from his worked height (it was pretty clear at WM 3 Hulk was only a couple inches shorter than him).
