Tournament starts late Monday Night. All voting must be done out in the open. I'm not using the poll feature on the board.

Some brackets are more stacked than others. Occasionally a band won't fit the Bracket's description. I say Fuck That. Too Bad.

I am willing to listen to arguments about seedings.  I'm sure I have forgotten some worthy bands. Nominate a Band but also say which band should be removed from the tourney.

The British Invasion Bracket
1 Led Zeppelin
2 Rolling Stones
3 The Beatles
4 The Who
5 Jethro Tull
6 Cream
7 The Kinks
8 Deep Purple

The You never know what will happen on stage Bracket
1 Kiss
2 Rush
3 Pink Floyd
4 The Doors
5 Queen
6 Yes
7 Alice Cooper
8 Genesis

The Almost Cut My Hair Bracket
1 Allman Brothers Band
2 Santana
3 Beach Boys
4 Lynyrd Skynyrd
5 Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
6 Velvet Underground
7 Grateful Dead
8 Jefferson Airplane

The Whole Lotta Rosie Bracket
1 AC DC
2 Aerosmith
3 Van Halen
4 Black Sabbath
5 Jimi Hendrix Experience
6 Bad Company
7 The Scorpions
8 Thin Lizzy

The Fuck if I know What to Call it Bracket
1 U2
2 REM
3 Chicago
4 Journey
5 Grand Funk Railroad
6 Moody Blues
7 Foreigner
8 Boston

The Meet The New Boss Same As The Old Boss Bracket
1 Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band
2 Fleetwood Mac
3 Heart
4 The Eagles
5 Paul McCartney & Wings
6 Doobie Brothers
7 Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
8 Creedence Clearwater Revival

The Why Can't I Get Just One Fuck Bracket
1 The Ramones
2 The Police
3 The Pretenders
4 The Clash
5 Sex Pistols
6 Talking Heads
7 Blondie
8 Tourney Winner

The Enter Sandman Bracket
1 Metallica
2 Guns N Roses
3 Nirvana
4 Bon Jovi
5 Motorhead
6 Def Leppard
7 Pearl Jam
8 Judas Priest

Edit: Metellica number one seed.

Edit: Bad Company added. Dave Matthews gone.

Edit: I gave Bad Company the number six seed in the Whole Lotta Rosie Bracket. Moved The Scorpions & UFO down a slot. Moved Judas Priest from an 8th seed in one bracket to an 8th seed in another bracket. which was originally vacated by Dave Matthews.

Edit: Boston now in place of Bob Marley. Thin Lizzy in, UFO out.

Edit: Blondie in, Replacements out.

Edit: 16 Band tournament for 8th seed in The Why Can't I Get Just One Fuck bracket.

Metallica should be the #1 seed over Guns N Roses in the Enter Sandman Bracket. The Bracket is named after all, by a song of Metallica's.

Do you want Violent Femmes to be the number one see in the The Why Can't I Get Just One Fuck bracket because the bracket is named after lyrics in Add It Up?

If you want Metallica to be number one over GNR, give some other reasons.

Comes my best argument..

"According to the Recording Industry of America (RIAA), whose data encompasses the bands' entire careers, METALLICA leads GUNS N' ROSES, 59 to 43.5 million. Among all artists, METALLICA ranks 18th, GUNS N' ROSES 30th."

I'd yank Dave Matthews Band simply for sucking and put Bad Company in somewhere. Other than that, nice job on the whole setup.

The change has been made. Metallica now the number one seed.

Bad Company slipped my mind. They deserve to be in the tournament. Bye Bye Dave Matthews.

Good calls. Supertramp was mega popular for a while. Thin Lizzy was great live. You know the drill. Now find two bands to take out of the tournament.

Maybe put Thin Lizzy over UFO?  UFO was really good, but Lizzy has bigger hits and I personally like them a good bit.

I would dump Bob Marley for Boston. Boston fits in nicely w/Foreigner and Journey in that bracket. Marley's solid, but more reggae than rock.

No doubt.  Any one of the top four seeds in the British Invasion could/should win this whole thing, IMO.

Boston v U2 is an interesting 1-8 matchup. I could see an upset here. U2 has a better body of work, but no single album that touches Boston's self titled deubt song for song.

LOL!! When I first started posting about this tourney in the mod forum, my four number one seeds were

The Beatles
Rolling Stones
Led Zeppelin
The Who.

If you're going to replace the VF in the "Why Can't I Get..." bracket (which seems to be mostly punk or punkish bands), I think the most logical replacement is Blondie.  Supertramp would stand out like a sore thumb in that bracket, and AIC doesn't really fit either.

I'd also be okay with replacing The Replacements with Blondie, but that's just my opinion.

If this was the Baseball HOF, both Alice In Chains and Supertramp would be in the very good, but not quite good enough category. Everything else looks good.

Blondie is alot more well known then The Replacements with alot more Hits. Also, isn't Blondie in the Rock-N-Roll HOF?

I agree. I'd vote Blondie over both the Replacements and Femmes and they do fit the bracket theme well.  I still think AIC deserves a spot in, even though they don't fot the bracket as well.

What about Chilli Peppers or Jane's Addiction?  I personally take AIC over either of them, but they are worth considering, I think.

Great call about RCHC and Jane's...I can't believe I didn't think of them.  I wouldn't be averse to putting them in the "You never know..." bracket at the expense of Yes and Genesis.

We need both Yes and Genesis. Both have extensive bodies of work and enough line up changes to make for interesting conversation.

Maybe we should have a pre-tourney, "play-in challenge." Or a battle royal with the winner getting a spot, or something to that effect.

I'm on board with the play in challenge. This way we can stop arguing for a moment about first round jobbers.

I will replace The Place Mats with Blondie though.

Not a bad line-up. My only complaint though is that The Clash and The Sex Pistols shouldn't be facing each other in the first round of that bracket. They're both TOO good and both TOO influential for that to happen.

Just to add to the above. I think that is the way to go because by going with the seedings you have you end up getting genre vs. genre later in the tournament.
I'd like to have the possibility of having The Rolling Stones meeting The Beatles in the final or The Clash vs. the Sex Pistols, etc, etc, which can't happen with these seedings.

16 Band Battle Royal for the 8th seed in the Why Can't I Get Just One Fuck Bracket

Iron Maiden
Alice In Chains
Styx
Bachman Turner Overdrive
ZZ Top
38 Special
Electric Light Orchestra
Guess Who
The Mamas and The Papas
King Crimson
Emerson, Lake and Palmer
Foghat
Supertramp
Ted Nugent
Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band
Steve Miller Band

This Battle Royal will be held Monday. You can only vote for one band. Band with the most votes gets that coveted 8 seed.

Tourney starts Tuesday.

The Mamas and The Papas
King Crimson

Steve Miller Band

Of those 16 bands, I'm leaning towards ZZ Top. How I Managed to forget ZZ Top before, I dunno. They deserve to be in the tournament. Ted Nugent has a decent argument too. BTO was a huge at one time but really didn't have a long period at the top. This board seems to shit on artsy tartsy type bands so I don't think King Crimson or ELP will get many votes if they get any at all. Beej suggested Styx and 38 Special. Of the two, I'd say Styx has the better chance of picking up a few votes. ELO had a string of hits but doesn't have any following on this board. Papa John Phillips was a perverted fuck so his band gets in the tourney. The Guess Who had plenty of hits but I always thought BTO was better than the Guess Who. Foghat. Some good songs and some good albums. But a jobber in this battle royal. Brodie Suggested Iron Maiden. I could get on board for a metal band but Iron Maiden isn't the one. If I'm voting metal, I'll vote for Nugent. Alice In Chains was suggested on the board. Too tough a field for them.Bob Seger was always Detroit's version of Bruce Springsteen. Some good stuff but I don't see Seger and his mates being a factor in the battle royal. Steve Miller Band was the last addition to the field. How much does The Joker, Fly Like An Eagle and Jet Airliner mean to you?

That's my preview Meltzer style. To recap, ZZ Top is 1A and Ted Nugent is 1B.

Too many ref decisions. Gotta be a better way to decide a winner.

I hope the 2 finalists don't end up in a tie.

Cars could have so won the Bob Seger bracket. Or at least met Detroit Bob in bracket finals.

AC/DC isn't in the same stratosphere as Sabbath.  Sabbath should've gotten much further but ran into Hendrix in the 1st round.

AC DC won the OSW tourney a few years ago.

The Cars will get a chance in next year's tourney. So will Steely Dan. I'm sure we'll think of other deserving bands. Let's list them on this thread. I'll leave the thread stickied for that purpose.
