ZBYSZKO RE-NAMED AWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION

Minneapolis, MN - February, 5, 2008 - While the nation is turning
out in record numbers for what's been called "Super Tuesday", the
management team of the AWA has announced that the AWA World Heavyweight
Championship, stripped from Zero-1's Masato Tanaka in late 2007 due to
irresponsible leadership by the fledging Zero-1 MAX's Yoshi Nakamura,
has been rightfully returned to "The Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko.

Zbyszko started rallying for what he claimed was rightfully his
since mid-2007. The situation heated up immediately after the then AWA
Board of Directors stripped Masato Tanaka of the World's title.
Zbyszko, through his newly named "representative" Mister Saint Laurent
and legal representation, started filing documentation, to the new AWA
Management Team, proving he had never lost the title in 1991 when Verne
Gagne's AWA entered into bankruptcy. After considerable deliberation
and review of the bankruptcy file from the early 90's, the AWA agreed
with Zbyszko that he did indeed never actually loose the title.
Accordingly, Larry Zbyszko is once again the recognized and current AWA
World Heavyweight Champion.

As the celebration started with Zbyszko and "Team Vision"
(Zbyszko's running pals' "Not Cocky" Chasyn Rance and Mister Saint
Laurent), the AWA also announced that Zbyszko's first title defense
would be April 18th in Fayetteville, West Virginia against two of the
top 10 contenders in a 3-way dance.

will they return the NWF title to Antonio Inoki?

They should have an Inoki vs Mil Mascaras vs Larry Zbyszko match with all 3 should be defunct belts on the line.

I love it too. It closes a perfect circle of nonsense started with winning the great AWA World Heavyweight Title in a Battle Royal. Now Larry can claim he has been champ 17 years. Still doesn't beat Mil Mascaras who has been IWA Champion for over 32 years now.

There was nothing whatsoever wrong with that Battle Royale.  I give you Royal Rumble 1992 as my defense why.  Noone bitches about that.

Wait what if this "AWA" folds up while he is champion - he will have held two AWA championships (league folds twice) and the Western States Heritage belt (championship disbanded during his reign)

How many glorious years is this for Larry anyway?

A question fo rth experts here - this is retroactive to when exactly and whose subsequent claims to that championship does it erase?

Thank you for your patience.

So far as I know this Dale Gagne (not his real last name, he changed it) has the rights to use the AWA logo and that is all

This has nothing whatsoever to do with the old AWA except for having the same logo

Kind of like me buying the Mid-South logo, starting a promotion and claiming title lineage

Yeah, same exact thing.  Eliminating Hulk Hogan after an hour = being left with Tom Zenk as your major obstacle.

Given the status of guys in the territory and how they did the match, it was fine.

I didnt know the story has to be the same for every battle royale.  Don't you get bored with 'em being booked that way?

The effort there was to build Zenk as a singles threat.  It didnt work.  Had it, you wouldn't be snarky about it.  Not Verne's/Wahoo's/Ray's fault.
