From Herb,

WWE just sent out this press release

WWE SmackDown Leaves CW

STAMFORD, Conn., February 7, 2008 - The following statement was issued today by World Wrestling Entertainment.

After a successful decade of "SmackDown" on both UPN and The CW, World Wrestling Entertainment and The CW have agreed to conclude our partnership. Since The CW's exclusive negotiation period ran out as of last Thursday, January 31, we have been contacted and have been in negotiations with other networks. "WWE SmackDown" will continue to air on The CW until the conclusion of the 2007-08 broadcast season. We are grateful to Les Moonves, Dawn Ostroff, and their entire organization for bringing "WWE SmackDown" to millions of viewers for so many years.

If they can't get a decent deal, the brand split may come to an end soon.

They will end up on USA, at the least.

This will end up being a good thing for the WWE, since the CW network is made up of mainly lower powered stations.  The CW affiliate in Pittsburgh would barely qualify as a UHF station if it didn't have the powerhouse CBS station doing pretty much all its production/transmitting. They don't even have an HD signal here yet.

Also the wording would suggest that WWE might have been made an offer from another network. Let the speculation begin I guess.

The product sucks and bores the shit out of me, but I can't see them being a viable program that somebody wouldn't pick up.

How are the numbers compared to, say, 5 years ago?
