OH YEAH, unbelievable!! What a game this turned out to be in the second half...I'm speechless.
Only one more title to win before The Celtics can't claim to have the most all-time.

How about Ronnie Artest in the second half....Awesome play.

This is one of the best I've seen them win...Actually I think this may be the best Lakers title win I've seen.

Let the celebration begin!!

Hats off to the Celts though...What a defensive struggle. They played hard...Both teams played hard.

This is GREAT!!!

Where's all the Celtics fans?

You guys should be proud of your team this season for even making it as far as they did. Unfortunately the offense wasn't there for them tonight. Thumb's up to Rashed Wallace. I got to admit hey played very well tonight. MVP of The Celtics in Game 7 IMHO.

Even though there wasn't much offense I thought it turned out to be one of the greatest games I've seen in awhile...regardless of who was playing and the outcome. I love those defensive, rock 'n' sock 'em type games. Very physical game IMO and I'm sure ALL of the starters on both teams will be sore and full of bruises tomorrow morning...even more-so that they probably were after Game 6.

Fun series to watch, even though I really thought the officiating overall in the Finals was the shits...on BOTH sides of the ball. Thank goodness they pretty much let them play tonight.

There really aren't many basketball fans on this board.  I think soccer gets more play here (and people have made it perfectly clear that they don't give a shit about no fucking soccer!).

Weird game, defensive struggle but fun to watch especially that 4th quarter, which was amazing, but in the end the Celts look tired and started shooting more jumpshots than driving and the lakers stopped shooting and came out either driving or pounding the ball inside and letting Gasol go to work.

Artest and Odom winning it for Queens again, great way to start summer

I didn't post at all on this series or any of the playoffs but I watched every minute. This Celtics team had more guts than any I have ever seen and to come up a hair short is painful - especially to Kobe and Phil who are the two most arrogant assholes in the NBA.
The Celts got beaten last night at their own game - outhustled, outrebounded, outplayed defensively and they gave up 30 pts in the fourth quarter and lost a 13 point advantage.

Close is only good in horseshoes and hand grenades and I wish I had a hand grenade right now so I could mail it to this dude who lives in NOVA SCOTIA and is a Lakers fan (WTF???)

This may have been the most atrocious Game 7 I have ever watched.  The first half was as boring as any Knick-Heat game I had ever seen, even more so because at least the Knicks and the Heat hated each other's guts.

The Celtics collapse in the midst of Kobe pulling a John Starks.

If it wasn't for the last 4 minutes or so of the 4th quarter when both teams started hitting shots and raining 3's, that game would have been completely unwatchable.

This was a terrible loss for Celtics fans everywhere. There's nothing worse than seeing a season end with a Lakers championship. Nothing

Agreed kenny.  This team showed a ton of grit and guts...I mean, let's face it, if you had said back in May that this team would be playing in Game 7 of the Finals (esp. given how they played throughout the spring), I would've said you were crazy.  It's tough to be really disappointed by this loss.

Yet, somehow I am.  I'm very disappointed.  I really felt good about the Celts ' chances going into this game, to the point that I was telling people there was no doubt in my mind they were going to win--which is something I almost never say out loud.  To say I was shocked that the Lakers won would be to put it mildly.

Hmmm...maybe I'll channel that disappointment into another topic idea...

not an NBA fan any more at all.  I watched bits and pieces of the playoffs and maybe a combined whole Charlottes Bobcats game in the season.  I love college BB but the pro game doesn't do it.  Still will watch before soccer.  I may actually watch more golf and I am not a fan either.

Why?, i always here this from older white males, and i am really interested in why, because the college game is close to horrible in my opinion, besides the fact that any team can win and that NBA needs to start havin parity, i don't see how college is SO MUCH better than the NBA.

The illusion that these kids are playing for the pure love of the game is part of it. Die hard support from their fans (blows away any pro sports fans, at least in the US, IMO) is also a part of it. Mistakes made because they are young and developing players, making upsets more feasable to consider is part of it. The single-elimination March madness tournament and "anything can happen" mentality that it instills is part of it.

The NBA being so predictable most of the time is a big part of it too. The best teams rarely lose games they should not lose, and that translates into the playoffs as well.

For me, I like that in College ball they still call travelling, and make other calls taht were how the game was called when I played it so many years ago. I see what they get away with now in the pros and it's hard to watch, knowing 25 years ago you couldn't take 5 steps to the basket to score, or hang out in the key for 5 seconds, etc. Hard to get into it when it's so different than what you played or watched as a youngster.

That's my take on it. I'm not a basketball expert by any means, that's just the things that make a college game more likely for me to stop and watch as opposed to a pro game, if I have to choose between the two.

The NBA is vastly superior to the college game. All the college game has is the first few days of March Madness. Otherwise, it's just mostly teams running up and down the floor, passing it around a few times, and chucking up a 3-pointer.

So I guess last night's game 7 drew the best rating for an NBA game since Jordan and The Bulls beat Stockton, Malone and Utah in game 6 back in '98.

Preliminary TV ratings best in 12 years
Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Game 7 drew the highest preliminary rating for an NBA Finals game since 1998.

The Lakers' 83-79 win Thursday night on ABC earned an 18.2 overnight rating. That's the highest for an NBA game since Michael Jordan won his last championship with the Bulls in Game 6 of the 1998 Finals against the Jazz, which posted a 22.9.

The rating was 32 percent higher than the only other Game 7 of the past 16 years, that one being Pistons-Spurs in 2005, which drew a 13.8.

Ratings represent the percentage of all homes with televisions tuned into a program. Overnight ratings measure the country's largest markets.

The game drew a 39.7 rating in Los Angeles and a 33.9 in Boston.
