For Downs that's a retarded trade, but I'd love to dump Joba for someone while he still has a slight amount of value.  I think he's pretty much done already.

Lee is stupid.

Joba is overrated but I'd rather trade him for somebody legit. Anybody in the bullpen (Mariano, Eckersley, aside) is a failed starter and not what I'd consider a premium arm (or pitcher, for that matter).

Frank Thomas is a legit HOF'er and deserves it. One of the best hitters I've seen in my lifetime.

Fuck my Tigers! You're getting murdered EVERY FUCKING GAME, and the only fucking guy you pick up is fuckin Johnny Pheralta? Are you fucking kidding me?

WTF are you doing? nice way to show that we're fucked again this year,, and most likely wont make the playoffs...way to be.

Hey, I've got a great idea: Lets wait till seasons end, and then re-sign: Guillen/Robertson/and Willis to huge, long term deals again? Better yeat, we should offer Kyle Farnsworth a huge deal, Im talking like $80-$90 mill?

Morons!!!!

Yankees about to get Lance Berkman and Austin Kearns.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AscicfmHPRMgZ9WdqfISODw5nYcB?slug=ap-yankees-berkman

If they weren't before, the Yankees are absolutely stacked now.  Same old friggin story.  The World Series is pretty much theirs to lose.

EDIT:  Sorry, Horsemen, I missed your initial post on this same story.

No need to apologize - I just want to know what Theo is going to do. Do he trade one of our stud propects for a big name rental player and try to squeze into the Wild Card slot or does he just sit back and hope that adding 1 or 2 players from the Bargain Bin does the trick ????  Personally I think this year is very close to being a lost season in Boston so it will be interesting to see just who comes back next year.

Yeah, I don't see him doing much of anything of any significance.  I think the pat press release is going to be something along the line of "Pedroia's coming back from injury!  Ellsbury's coming back from injury!  Beckett's back from injury!  V Mart's back from injury!  That's like four giant in-house free agent signings right there!"

On a side note, did you watch last night's game?  Not to go all stingmark on the Sox, but really, Mike Cameron sucks gigantic balls.

When I look at the Yankees weaknesses and what they need at the deadline, the first thought was not "This team really needs more outfielders and designated hitters." Looks like they will try to win it all with a horrid bullpen.

They've had him before, so they clearly haven't learned their lesson.

Blanco is the best player in the trade. He can't hit for any power, but he can be useful.

I like the Pirates being on the receiving end of a deal involving a team dumping players for once with the Arizona deal. Got a decent catcher for some bench guys who weren't doing shit and a middle reliever.

I really hate the Sox trade of Hudson. KW keeps trading all of the young pitching prospects of the Sox. Jackson better be able to get fixed by Cooper quick and return to his form from 08 and 09.

FWIW, there's nothing in the Chicago papers about a sick child motivating Lee to stay in Chicago.

He's quoted as saying he "agonized" over the decision and talked to some friends on the Angels, so he at least considered accepting the trade.

Did I hear correctly that they got cash in the deal along with Woods? If so, it just goes to show how underrated Cashman is.

I heard that too.  I'm not sure why KW would think the Nats would want a guy making 8 million next year though with an over 5 era. KW also said the Sox don't have to win every trade, just get the guy they want. That is definitely a strange comment to make. Either way I'm not to happy about it. Especially since Hudson just pitched 8 innings the other day of 1 run ball for the Dbacks.

Awesome bench-clearing brawl at the Reds - Cardinals game yesterday, after one of the Reds called the Cardinals whiny little bitches in a pre-series news article. Reds pitcher Cueto caught on camera sitting on the wall kicking Cardinals with his spiked boot, and he's looking good to get a serious suspension off it.

"There's an outside chance the Tigers could pull Damon back and decide to keep him but that's unikely because they're not in the race and they can save almost $2 million."

Sweet!  I'd love to have Damon back in Boston, and it makes perfect sense, given that Ellsbury and Cameron are likely out for the year.

Absolutely.  It's a good acquisition for the Red Sox, although it's probably too little too late.  It'll be interesting to see how he's received by the fans given some of the comments he's made about the organization since he's left.

I can't see the catching the Yankees & Rays. They are just too good.

Fuck Larry.

He's not my favorite guy, either, but did he piss in your Cheerios or something?

No, just have a real dislike for Larry.

WFAN is saying the move was to block him from going to Tampa, where Damon really wanted to go.

Yep, that's what I'm hearing too.  Makes sense.  Either way, decent to good move for the Sox, probably not so good for Damon.

Well I hope Boston gets stuck with him then.  He'll help them, but certainly not nearly as much as he'll help the Rays.

I think it'll be tough as hell to catch them, but considering they have 6 games left with the Rays and 6 games left with the Yanks, there's a definite possibility.  They just have to start playing up to the competition (the Sox are 9-15 combined against those two this season).

If they can take 8 of those 12 games, they may have a shot.

At the end of the day, he's probably gonna be stuck in Detroit.  As discussed, this move is probably more valuable in preventing TB from getting him than BOS actually getting him.

Oh well.  Easy come, easy go...

Damon has to agree to any trade worked out.

Not if it's Boston...they're one of the teams on his "No trade" clause.....:D

It isn't like Damon would really make in difference for the Red Sox.

They have one of the worst hitting OF's in MLB and are strike out 3rd most.  He'd help for sure.

Cards go 2-8 in a road series against 3 teams with losing records. Fuck you, each and every one of you. Fuck LaRussa for trying to get away with speaking at that Glenn Beck rally while distancing himself from it, fuck Albert for going too, just fuck the lot of them.

Time to find a decent team to watch for the rest of the season, and start afresh with St. Louis in 2011.
