I want to say May-June 1985. Set up their match at the Great American Bash in July. With Crockett as Ref.

You know, after his wife died, you sort of can't blame him for becoming disenchanted with what is a pretty seedy business anyway and turning to religion as a cXrXuXtXcXh source of comfort.

That was probably the biggest face turn of the year.  After Magnum's accident, Dusty had no partner against Dillon and Ole in a cage match.  He walked out that night with Nikita following him about 10 feet back.  Everyone thought he was there to attack Dusty, until Dusty climbed in the ring and went at the Horseman....when they double teamed on him, Nikita was standing in the doorway and looking at the fans, then came in and immediately went after Ole.  The roof basically blew off of the building!!

The single biggest pop I've ever heard in my life.  Period.

Until I saw him youtube as somesort of evangalist I didnt know he was an American. Ivan & Nikita had the best Russian sell in wrestling history.

Nikolai Volkoff WAS an Eastern European, and he couldn't do "Russian" as well as Ivan & Nikita.

He said Flair hadnt turned on Dusty in the cage at the time of the Sickle he gave Crockett. That was still the full on face Flair feuding with evil Nikita. For that matter the cage match in which Flair DID turn on Dusty was Flair vs Nikita......Dusty came to his aid when all the Russians hit the cage

I wouldn't say he was "full on" face, as he had been pretty heelish in his feud with Magnum TA for months before that. Maybe in his main towns in the Mid-Atlantic, but on TBS he was more of a "tweener" who was almost total heel when squaring of with TA and semi-heelish when dealing with Rhodes. He was still shown as friendly with the heel Andersons too, as they were family.  He was made out to be a friend of Crockett's, though.

I like this quote:

"I'll say this though, I like my Nikita Koloffs bald, anything else is just plain wrong and unnatural. Kind of like King Kong Bundy with hair, I choose not to accept it. "
