Deserves it's own topic.

It's because the New York fans are animals and by spitting on his wife we have the completely unheard of scenario of an athlete negotiating with two teams, saying "screw it" and reaching out himself to where he really wants to be.

Nothing funnier than tuning into WFAN out of New York and hear them refer to Lee as "Benedict Arnold".

Lee would have been a good addition but within 5 years, another bad contract. I really hope the Yankees develop their own pitchers and let Nova have a shot. I said all along that the AJ Burnett signing was a huge mistake. No shot of them getting Greinke (I HOPE) as he has a nervous disorder and would likely fall apart in NYC.

Philly? They look tough.

Even Philly fans didn't see this coming.
From another thread, a Philly fan opines after it was suggested
the Phils sign Lee"

"I'll assume in acquiring Oswalt that they went over budget and Lee is not in the mix."

Can't call the Phils cheap anymore.

I'm pleased that he's done this. I think if the "fans" of a team spat on my wife, I'd have a hard time signing with them. Shows the media BS that Mr and Mrs Lee were spouting back in October, though:

I didnt see it coming. I thought for sure he was staying with the Rangers.

He must really love Philly. Turn downs both Yankees and Rangers for way less money.

Well he did say after being traded last year he thought he end his career in Phily.

Halladay, Oswalt, Hamels, & Lee. This could be fun.

However if the Phillies hit the same way they did last year. It wont matter who in the hell is pitching.

The Phillies are going to be great next year. That rotation is the best I've seen, on paper, since the 90s braves. Good for Lee for going where he wants. With that much money, happiness for the family is worth a few million. Of of the pluses in being set for life is the option to spurn bigger offers and settle where you want.

As far as the Yankee "fans" who did that, they were probably in seats that cost a few grand each and hadn't been to a game all year. Its a disgrace that players families were subjected to that and if they lose players because of it, its deserved.

This has nothing to do with his wife getting spit on.

This has to do with the fact that he always wanted to be a Phillie, he was heartborken when they traded him, but it didn't seem like they were going to make an offer.  He spurned the 2 teams courting him the entire time and took way less money to go back to Philly, that's proof right there.

Guess Halladay, Oswalt, Hamels, & Lee are being called R2C2.

I think The Four Horsemen of Baseball is a better name.:)

Lee reportedly went to RBJ last week and said that He wanted to come back to Philly. I'm a little bit worried about the Hitting also. That said, It might not matter when You have these Guys as Your top Four.

Be interesting to see how well Philly does if they do not have bat support for these 4 pitchers.

I am glad to see someone finally turn down the yankees though, that has got to piss them off big time because they went all in on him, and didnt even go after anyone else really and now they have nothing to show this offseason, and I am not counting re-signing current players either

This has nothing to do with his wife getting spit on.

Nobody is going to come out and say "well that was a factor" but if your wife is tugging on your shirt saying "I wish we could go back to Philly" .....

Oh and look for the Phils to dump payroll and somehow pick up a bat with their "excess" pitching

Beej, she was doing that before that whole incident ever took place.  They never wanted to leave in the first place.  By ESPN accounts (I know that's not saying much there) they were heartbroken when Lee was traded.  The guy took about 1/3 less to back there.  That should be proof enough.

If the "spitting incident" was that much of a determining factor, why did the Rangers also have no shot?  They rolled out the red carpet for Lee.

Because Lee wants to be a Phillie.  Nothing wrong with that, and I actually applaud the guy for putting his family over the contract.

Freaking Phillies eh, of all teams?

This Phillies team seems to be run really well, management wise.

They seem to be slowly becoming The New England Patriots of MLB.

A well run team that major stars take less money so they can play for them. Well Lee is the only player so far that has done that isn't he?

They just have to win another championship or two and they will be known as The Patsies of MLB.

Being a Mets fan, I can't help to tip my cap to The Phillies organization to what they've done with that pitching rotation. They will be an interesting team to watch next season. They get their hitting in order and it's not only The Mets, Braves and Nationals that will have to look it...It will be every team in the NL AND AL.

I normally root against dynasty teams but the Phils were so pathetic for their first 100 years of existence that it's almost as though this is karmic payback. This really isn't far removed from the LA Clippers running roughshod over the NBA in 2060.

That said, there's still a season to play. Let's wait and see before we hand over the World Series crown just yet.

Yeah you're right.

BTW, surprise, surprise, I'm picking The New York Mets to win next year's World Series.

For those that know me, I know that pick came right out of left field.

Not sure which team will come out of The American League yet though. I still have to figure that one out.

Shit, I hope not.

Although, if they pick up Fat Joe, that would probably mean that Dice K's being shipped out of town, so that's a bonus.

I cant be mad at Lee for going to Philly, he liked it there and wanted to go back.

It amazed me how this came out of nowhere though, this entire off season there was never a mention of Philly even being involved, and they win him back.

The Philly's may have a great pitching staff, but they better hope that they don't have a fluke like what happened to the Cubs in 2004 when Wood and Prior both went down early, and they were the anchors to a supposedly great Cubs pitching rotation as well

I know the cliche is that you can never have enough pitching, but I would be so tempted to float Hamels out there and see what kind of package you could get for him. If anything is going to sink the Phillies in '11, it's going to have to be the starters' arms exploding or lack of depth among position players.

Is Philly really a good spot for a guy like Greinke?

When I heard about the deal this morning I thought to myself "I wonder who wants out?" thinking that behind the scenes one of the starters wanted out and they would in turn deal a pitcher for a bat.

The Royals(Despite reports claiming they're interested in trade offers), DO NOT want to trade Greinke. Call me foolsih for this, but the Royals will be very nasty in another year or 3, they're developing a nice young team...trust me, they're not the laughingstock they once were. i heard a few guys on the radio last night(while talking about greinke), saying the Royals in 2-3 years, wiill probably be the best team in the division/AL.

Source Confirms Lee's Wife Wanted No Part of New York, Lee Contacted Phils

A source told us that Kristen Lee wanted no part of going to New York.  And it was Lee who got back in touch with the Phillies over the weekend.
SI's Jon Heyman was all over the story.  He said, "hearing [Lee] wanted to be on Phillies so badly, he initated a lot of the talks."
Our source confirmed this via email and provided more insight:
The Cliff Lee wife story is true.  She absolutely did not want to go to New York, and she did not want to stay in Texas because all of Lee's relatives were coming to his games. That was getting old very quickly for her.
Apparently, Lee himself called Amaro Jr. on Saturday to ask what the Phillies best offer would be. They were five million apart and Amaro Jr. said he couldn't do it. He called Lee back on Sunday to say that he wasn't going to lose him over five million.
They are happy because they can get a house down at the Jersey shore for Kristen and the kids to stay in, and they like that they are only a short train ride from other big cities.

To confirm, the source provided details as to the specific connection with the Lees.
Nothing completely new, but it's apparent that Cliff Lee (and his wife) really wanted to come back here.

I'd blame Cashman for failing yet again, but Cliff and his wife seem like complete cunts, so fuck them both. And I hope Kristen enjoys the pee and batteries if her husband bombs in the playoffs there.

No Philly fans just threaten death and run them out of town with pitchforks and flaming torches like they did with Mitch Williams in the 90's  lol

And his wife is a fucking cunt if she was pissed his family was coming to all his games and thus why she not want to stay, there is no way I could stay with a woman if she didnt want my family coming around

After the way the Yankees fans treated her, can you blame her? Unreal. I know that wont be talked about obviously, but it's pretty funny that he shits on them, for less money, to go back to Philly, and you have to think the way they treated his wife, had a role in it?

Dont complain Yankees fans when your rotation goes to shit in another year or so. Dopes will probably try/do worse if the Phils play the Yanks next season?

I agree...what a flaming cunt.

I am actually sick and tired of everyone annointing them the world champions for the next 5 yrs already.

The rate this is going, Philly is going to be the NL version of the Yankees

Lee  probably didn't want to face the Redsox next year with Gonzales and Crawford.

Much easier to beat the NL east teams. Yankees could come in third next year.

His son was stricken with leukemia. During Lee's brief time with the Phils,
his son received treatment at a certain hospital in Philly. His son (Jaxon)
only had a 30% chance of survival.
After treatment & finding a bone marrow match, Jaxon is now in remission.
While there are likely equally fine hospitals in NY & Texas, the Lees were
impressed with the Philly hospital.
I believe this is the main reason why Lee didn't sign with the Yanks/Rangers.

So apparently she's just a cunt that can't be satisfied.  Just like all wimmens.  I have someone in mind who could donkey punch her ass right to New York.

See, now you're getting it......

Always classy SRossi.  Just like the rest of your city.

You just don't get the humor here and never will at this point.  You'd think you would've picked up on at least a couple of the in-jokes by now.  You must constantly here the sound of wind rushing over your head.

Our hospital here is nicknamed "Death General".  Growing up, I knew the chief of staff's kids and he made his own kids carry emergency cards in their wallets instructing the EMTs to take them somewhere else.

When the drunk driver hit me years ago, I was 2 blocks away from the local hospital, and I insisted they take me to another hospital in another county, the EMT's were pissed, but no way was I gonna go to my local one
