Lots of wrestlers don't actually shoot during their shoot interviews. They just try new works. I won't knock a guy for saying something happened in 1975 when it really happened in 1973. But some guys claim things without any basis in reality.

What are some of the more outrageous lies told in shoot interviews? Let's get specific.

Let me watch the Abdullah the Butcher shoot again and I'll give you 4 hours worth of lies.  But where the lies end and the delusions begin is a fine line with any of these guys.

One of the most obvious is HBK telling the RF guys that he had no idea about the Montreal Screwjob a few years before admitting that he knew.

That was before he found Jesus.  Now it's all good.

John Nord's "muffler" story (Which is still funny even knowing it's made up): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlwn_75NW_k

From another forum:

Black Bart's shoot is awesome for sheer BS level:

He claims Dusty Rhodes came up with the Undertaker gimmick, and that Black Bart was supposed to play that character.

He also claims he's the biggest locker room legend in today's WWE (for his antics back in the day)

Piper had a warrant for his arrest, so Bart pulled a car up to the ring w/ Piper in the trunk, popped it, Piper wrestled, and then hopped back in the trunk and they took off.

Oh God, Black Bart actually just claimed he was offered 180 grand to star in a Fox Network sitcom based on his, Dutch and Moondog Rex "Desperodos" gimmick. Flair told The TBS execs "We can't have these jabronis star in a show" So WCW released them and the Sitcom was canceled.

Ronnie Garvin would get sexually excited when you worked "stiff" with him.

He actually called himself vs Sam Houston a "Main event" match. Of course the place was sold out, and of course they had such a great match, the other 4 "Main Events" of the evening couldn't compare.

Vince McMahon wanted to bring him in and work the upper midcard and offered him a "job for life", Bart declined, so when he went to WWF a year or 2 later, Vince made him a jobber out of spite.

A week after Mike Von Erich got out of the hospital, Bart carried him in a match for 45 minutes, then asked the ref "Is this the boy who just got out of the hospital?" After the ref said yes, Bart said "Oh **** " and took Mike down and pinned him.

When David Von Erich died he laid in his hotel room for 2 weeks with the A/C shut off and stayed there til Fritz came to Japan 2 weeks later and snagged the body.

He claimed to have threatened Jose Gonzalez (Brody's killer) with a knife shortly after Brody's death.

Bart said in 1991 the ring crew was all 18 or 19 year old ***** men, and Vince had a tour bus for them, and would spend an odd amount of time on the bus with the gays.

He also says Lanny Poffo was gay, and came on to him. Vince found out Bart told Lanny off, and Bart was released shortly there after...

whatever

Black Bart spouted that much bullshit, and didn't even bring up his own brand of potato chips?

And an oddly placed and angrily enunciated "NOW, THEN" here and there.

That was a joke.  Corino did an entire "shoot" for RF in his "King of Old School" gimmick, thus not making it a shoot at all but more of a comedy routine.  That wasn't advertised though.  I think they intended it to be a shoot but Corino just decided to goof on them for 2 hours.

Manny Fernandez claiming to be the main draw at Starcade 85 and that a large portion of the crowd left before Blanchard-TA and Flair-Rhodes because they had come to see he and Abdullah bleed on each other.

In Bart's case, he probably believed  alot of this.  Hell Dusty wolf James Beard and all his "friends" probably told him half this crap and then Bart took it and ran with it.  He never seemed like the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Wasn't Billy Jack Haynes' big deal that he was a pick up man or enforcer for some drug dealer who either killed someone or wanted BJH killed? I forget the circumstances except that it was outrageous and totally unbelievable.

Yeah. That's about it. I think he said Buzz Sawyer was working for and was killed by these same people.  And he (Billy Jack) had to get the hell out of dadge because they were after him, too. Maybe even that Buzz's murder was meant for him. Something like that, I believe.

He also claimed to have went to a show (Houston, maybe) with a gun and tried to get to Vince (and/or Hogan) in order to kill him, because they had acted like he might get a job then ignored him when he showed up & drove all that way with no money to his name - like a cruel rib on him, or something like that, but someone (his buddy Hercules, I believe) stopped him and talked him out of it.  Then he almost shot himself in the head. Or maybe it was the other way around. Either way, it was some wild shit. Might be true, for all I know, but wild nonetheless!

Billy Jack said some crazy shit on his "Conspiracy Theory" shoot.  I can't remember everything he said but, IIRC, he claimed that Daniel Benoit was actually Vince's son.

He also said that his Oregon promotion closed because of Vince and that Vince had control over some newspaper in Oregon and that's why the paper didn't mention his company.

That was just an odd shoot.

Later,

Nate

Yeah.  I've even seen Jimmy Garvin claim to be the first with rock music! In like 83 or 84 (despite the fact that Freebirds and Von Erics were both doing it in the same promotion months before him - and JYD in the neighboring territory. I know Garvin wasn't using it on WCCW TV for the first several months he was in.Not sure when he started)!  An he claims to be the first with a valet, too (though I will say he - along with Adrian Street to a degree- was the one that made it a trend from the 80s on)

I think he's the one running the drug cartel that had hits out on Haynes and Buzz Sawyer.

EDIT:  And Gino Henrandez, whom Haynes also said was killed by drug dealers that Gino had crossed - which really doesn't sound that outlandish, actually. A coked up, ego-crazed pro rasslin hustla tries to hustle some real hustlas and gets dealt with. I can buy that.  I've actually heard many different theories from wrestlers as to what really happened to Gino. I think the majority of them do seem to think he was either killed by an angry husband/father/organized crime/etc.

David Manning and Gary Hart talked about this in the Heroes of World Class DVD:
- A couple of weeks before he was found dead, Gino asked Manning if he could get him a gun.
- Cocaine was found *in Gino's stomach*.
- Gino's door was unlocked (very unusual, according to those who knew him) and there was no sign of a struggle or forced entry.
- Hart was booking San Antonio at the time, and Gino asked him about working there, looking to leave Dallas.

In his book, Gary Hart said that he didn't think it was a murder and that Gino had been very paranoid from his coke abuse. The cocaine wasn't really found in Gino's stomach.

As far as variants of this claim go, I don't think anything will top Matt Borne claiming that Hogan/Doink was going to headline WM9 but Hogan shot it down.
