What Wrestlers were You dying to see in Your favorite Territory, and when They appeared, You were disappointed? Mine was watching GCW on TBS and I finally saw Larry Zbyszko in 1983, and I thought He sucked. I never saw the Bruno/Zbyszko feud, so I was excited when Larry Legend was going to appear on WTBS.

Austin Idol, Continental '88. Saw him live in Jackson, MS.  He was very friendly. I have a picture with him and autograph, but disappointing in the ring. Maybe I'd seen him on a Memphis tape as a heel. I know I had the 87 stuff vs Lawler around that time, but can't recall if I'd wathced it yet.  I don't think so.

Carlos Colon - Came up to Toronto for the Canadian Title Tourney in 1984. Was hyped up as this Carribean Legend. Utter garbage in the ring, jobbed to Kabuki in the 1st round.

The Sheik.  I don't remember where I first saw him, and he was older, but it was hard not to laugh watching the guy I'd heard was so vicious.

Later,

Nate

Mil Mascaras. What a joke this guy was! I always heard and read about the guy and when I finally saw him wrestle it was the most boring shit I'd ever seen.

Jerry the King Lawler - I first saw him at a Pro Wrestling USA show in 1985 at the Meadowlands when he was in a 6-man tag match against the Road Warriors. He was a prominent guy in t he Apter mags and I had seen a few clips on cable of crowds in Memphis going crazy over him, as well as brief stint in Ole's Georgia group in 84. So I finally got to see him live and - Eh.

But in his defense he was in a bad situation of being on the intended fan fave team (I want to say Hacksaw Duggan was on the same side) against "heels" Road Warriors, while the crowd was cheering everything the Road Warriors did. Still he did not really connect to the crowd.

I was at a WWF show where Mad Dog Vachon made a debut at MSG one night in mid 1984 or so, and he did his rough house routine on Steve Lombardi and got yawned on by the audience. Nobody "got it"  - he looked small and ancient - although he was presented as a stalwart AWA guy in Apter. But again he was old by this time and it was cool to see a legend albeit past his prime.

I change my answer.  I forgot about Mascaras for some reason.  I had read about him in the Apter mags forever and I thought he was going to be awesome when I saw him.  I think the first time I saw him was when he faced Foley.  I thought he was terrible.

Later,

Nate

It's a tie between Bruno Sammartino and Pedro Morales. In Bruno's defense, I liked him much better when he came to the WWA again in 1978. Didn't like Morales in either the AWA or Los Angeles. Both promotions had weekly TV shows in the Chicago area.

Dory Funk, Jr. All I heard was how he was the greatest champion ever, but any match of his I've seen that wasn't him and Terry in Japan was an insomnia cure waiting to happen. They even had his first interview after winning the title with Gordon Solie on WWE 24/7 and even Gordon was struggling to make it even somewhat interesting. Charisma wise he made Bob Backlund look like the Rock.

Good gosh, I forgot about Morales.  Wow!  He goes on my list, probably near the top.
