and come on UFO and Rainbow are footnotes in rock n roll and two of the great live bands which is what the best R&R band tourney would really define, depending on your taste and age there are going to be many different opinions so throw them all in and let the people vote ! , if you are going to include punk and new wave bands all the better, but if it's best 'Rock & Roll' band then .... , if you were doing 'Greatest Music Act' ever then you could throw Elvis, Johnny Cash, Bob Marley and others in

Yardbirds, because of their historical importance, I'd have a hard time dumping. Hell, Led Zep/Page stole a good chunk of their music from old Y'birds sets, that's gotta count for something.

Yeah Yardbirds historical importance is a big factor to keep them. Andrew I have seen both UFO and Rainbow in concert and both were great shows. Rainbow over UFO for over all importance to riock n roll and hits they had. I still think J Geils had more of a lasting impression on the rock world.

Food for thought... "They are one of only five rock bands that can claim two separate, original 10 million-plus selling albums (certified “Diamond”) in the U.S. The others are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Van Halen". Kind of strange to see one of those five bands as being on the bubble.

You fuckers need some educating since the Eagles (who blow, completely, except for Joe Walsh-who rules).![]() Here's Robert Plant, who's had about 4 careers, with his solo hit from 1993: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SW1TDeQyS88 Compare this to The Who since they pretty much died in 1979. And I only saw the original seedings but PLEASE put the Allman Brothers in there. They are the best jam band that ever lived and when I saw Bob fucking Seger/The Iggles over them I almost cringed.

OK I am probably older with more classic rock taste and not a metal fan at all, I worked in the Music biz when Alice in Chains was hot, I don't think they had the staying power, the hits or were really that important for the time as compared to other Seattle bands like Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Nirvanna, etc. I can't argue about any other the other last ins.

I don't think there's any doubt that they didn't achieve the success of Nirvana or Pearl Jam. But Layne was such a mess it's amazing they had as much staying power as they did. I wouldn't discount the band with the new singer though, he's very good and so was the new album. Personally, AIC is by far my favorite grunge band of the period though.

As of now I'll flip flop Def Leppard and Bad Company in the seedings. Figure out which band you want in the tourney. Alice In Chains, Soundgarden or The Stooges. Pick one of the three.
