ESPN is reporting that Texas A&M is joining the SEC. They are saying the official announcement will come Monday. It could take place as early as 2012, they are reporting.

Yeah, they broke this on the radio Thursday or Wednesday. We'll see. There are definitely serious discussions going on.

Yeah, SEC is saying they decided not to extend the offer to A&M. I've heard from the start that Georgia and Florida didn't want Florida State in the mix.

The speculation now is that the SEC wants Texas A&M to formally leave the Big XII before extending an invitation, to cover themselves legally and make it not look like they're poaching from another league.  It sounds silly, but it may be a CYA move by the SEC.

I believe it is a CYA move. That's why I phrased it as "they are saying they won't" rather than "they won't".

A&M is a brilliant move. SEC gets Texas, and A&M can get a different angle than Texas/Big 12. They'll never compete with Texas on any level, but might if they can say they've got the SEC and that national exposure. It's a hell of a differentiation.
