Better Call Saul is fantastic and if it was totally original and not related to BB no one would ever have a complaint about it.

I typically only binge watch one show at a time.  I've been meaning to check out Oz,

Oz is great the first few seasons but you really have to suspend disbelief for the last few seasons because at times it gets REAL out there...sometimes you're just "Oh COME ON" but some of the characters are SO strong in it you'll stick with it..

Oz was great at the time because it was pre-Sopranos (Edie Falco was plucked from that show and cast on The Sopranos after I think Season 2) and there just weren't shows like that on TV back then.  It was the forerunner of everything else that followed on HBO and Showtime and then spread to AMC, FX, etc.  But it doesn't hold up very well, especially as mentioned after those first couple of seasons.  It fact, by the end, it's downright absurd.

The first season of Oz in the summer of 1997 was incredible, but they used up most of their best stuff then and in an effort to fill the resulting creative gap, things got progressively more contrived as was noted. At least in the first season while a number of inmates were killed, it served the greater purpose of showing the prison getting further and further away from the administration until the season finale riot occurred. In later seasons killing inmates simply became a crutch for the creative team to introduce short term characters and then quickly eliminate them. By the end you wondered how McManus, Glynn, and the COs had jobs due to all the deaths and mayhem on their watch, not to mention how the Emerald City program survived.

Oz jumped the shark with the accelerated aging pill episode. Who green lighted that crap. I also loved how it was the only prison on earth that employed every measure of capital punishment. Electric chair for Cecil O'Reilly, hanging for Shirley Bellinger, lethal injection for Jeferson Keane. I'm pretty sure they did a firing squad on someone but I don't think they ever did a gas chamber.

Vince Russo would have been ashamed to write such crappy stories.

Jefferson Keane was much cooler when he was out of prison and called himself Shep and was dunking over Tupac.

I feel fortunate I jumped off the OZ train a little bit before that. I can't remember if it was something ridiculous or if I just wasn't around to watch and keep up with it anymore, but I missed that whole aging pill thing...and I'm glad.

My vote has to be for Breaking Bad Season 5 Episode 8. I guess it's not technically a season ender but we had to wait a whole year. Hank sitting on the toilet...I won't spoil the rest.
