SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Former NFL wide receiver Sam Hurd has been arrested in San Antonio after federal officials say he tested positive for marijuana use. Using illegal drugs would violate the terms of Hurd's $100,000 bond that kept him free pending his federal drug conspiracy trial. That trial was to have begun in Dallas on Monday but has been postponed until Oct. 9. Hurd is a former Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys player. He and others are accused of trying to buy large quantities of marijuana and cocaine to launch a drug-distribution network. The 26-year-old Hurd was arrested last December outside a Chicago-area steakhouse, and he was cut shortly afterward by the Bears. Hurd has pleaded not guilty. Messages left with his attorneys Thursday weren't returned.

![]() from ktar.com: Arizona Diamondbacks broadcaster Mark Grace was arrested for a DUI on Thursday night and he could be looking at an extended stay in prison. After consulting with a Valley attorney, KTAR has learned that if Grace is convicted of his second DUI within the past seven years, that he would be sentenced to a mandatory 90 days in jail, 60 of which could be suspended if he attends alcohol classes. If Grace is convicted of an aggravated DUI, a felony, he would get prison time, though it is unclear how long he would be sentenced to, as the time given is dependent on numerous variables. The average sentence in these cases is 2.5 years. When police made contact, they determined that Grace was driving without his interlock device, which is a Class 4 felony. A conviction of driving without the required interlock carries a prison sentence of one year to 3.75 years, followed by probation.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/09/24/another-falcons-arrest-yields-another-perfunctory-statement/ Another Falcons arrest yields another perfunctory statement Posted by Michael David Smith on September 24, 2012, 10:54 PM EDT When Falcons running back Michael Turner was arrested last week, the team issued issued a perfunctory statement about it. When Falcons defensive end John Abraham was arrested today, the team recycled its perfunctory statement. “We are aware of the news regarding John Abraham. We are in the process of gathering more information and we will have no further comment at this time,” the Falcons’ statement, released a few hours after Abraham’s arrest on Monday, said. That’s not much different than the previous statement that the team released when Turner was arrested for drunk driving: “We are aware of the situation involving Michael and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time.” So the Falcons changed the names of the players, changed “situation involving” to “news regarding,” and hit the same notes about gathering information and having no further comment. Abraham was arrested for obstructing police and firefighters who were responding to a call about a woman threatening to jump off a building. Given those odd circumstances, Abraham may have to issue more than a perfunctory statement to explain.

![]() MLB Hall of Fame catcher Carlton Fisk was arrested for DUI last night in Illinois -- after allegedly driving his truck into the middle of a freakin' corn field ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ. According to law enforcement sources, the New Lenox PD received a call about a car in the middle of a corn field around 7:20 PM. When police arrived, officers say they found Fisk behind the wheel of his F-150 -- which had a flat tire -- and he appeared to be fast asleep. We're told cops also found an open vodka bottle in the vehicle. Fisk was placed under arrest on the scene on suspicion of DUI -- and taken to a nearby hospital for a check-up. We're told he refused a blood alcohol test. His car was impounded. Fisk was released this morning. FYI -- Fisk's arrest comes almost exactly 37 years to the day when he hit the 12th inning home run that won Game 6 of the 1975 World Series.

LOS ANGELES -- Former Baltimore Orioles All-Star Doug DeCinces and three others were indicted Wednesday on insider trading charges involving the use of information prior to the takeover of a medical device company in California, authorities said. In 2008, DeCinces was told by a close friend and official at Advanced Medical Optics Inc. that Abbott Laboratories planned to pay $21 to $23 a share for the company's stock, prosecutors said. At the time, Advanced Medical Optics was trading for about $8 a share. DeCinces began buying Advance Medical stock based on that information and passed along the takeover details to three friends because he wanted to make up for previous investment recommendations that had gone bad, prosecutors said. When Abbott's offer was made public, DeCinces sold his newly purchased shares and profited about $1.3 million, court documents show. Abbott acquired Advanced Medical Optics in January 2009. DeCinces' three friends each bought and sold Advanced Medical stock and made anywhere from $140,000 to nearly $350,000, authorities said. Also indicted on insider trading charges were David Parker, 60, of Provo, Utah; Fred Scott Jackson, 65, of Newport Beach, and Roger Wittenbach, 69, of Lutherville-Timonium in Maryland. DeCinces, 62, was charged with 42 counts of securities fraud and one count of money laundering. Each of the fraud counts carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. DeCinces is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 17. "To put it mildly, we do not agree with the decision to bring a criminal case against Doug DeCinces," said Gordon Greenberg, DeCinces' attorney. "But the proper place to have this resolved is in the courtroom and not on the courthouse steps." Messages left for the other defendants' lawyers were not immediately returned. The Securities and Exchange Commission previously filed a civil lawsuit against DeCinces that was settled last year when the former major leaguer agreed to pay $2.5 million. In the lawsuit, federal authorities named James Mazzo, Advanced Medical's former CEO, as the person who told DeCinces about the pending deal. Mazzo is a senior vice president at Abbott and is not facing criminal charges. In August, in response to the SEC lawsuit, Mazzo's attorney said his client would be fully exonerated after a review of the evidence. Also caught up in the insider trading case was Hall of Famer and DeCinces' former teammate Eddie Murray, who agreed in August to pay nearly $360,000 to settle federal civil charges. Federal investigators said DeCinces told Murray about the impending takeover. Murray neither admitted nor denied wrongdoing. DeCinces was a third baseman during 15 seasons with the Orioles, California Angels and St. Louis Cardinals. He currently is president and CEO of a real estate development firm in Orange County. ![]()

Toronto Blue Jays prospect Anthony Alford has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault following a fight Wednesday morning on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi. According to the University police department, Alford -- a freshman quarterback at the school and a third round draft pick by the Blue Jays in the 2012 amateur draft -- and another student engaged in a fight that involved two guns. The university's newspaper, The Student Printz, reported Thursday the two men were held in Forrest County Jail without bond Wednesday night. Both Alford and the other student arrested have been placed on interim suspension, with expulsion a possibility, according to the university's dean of students. Alford was ranked 36th in Baseball America's pre-draft ranking, but he slipped to the third round (112th overall) over fears he wouldn't sign in order to pursue a career in football. Following the draft, the Blue Jays signed Alford to a deal that would allow him to play football at Southern Mississippi University in the fall, and baseball in the Blue Jays minor league system once the school year ended. After signing with Toronto, Alford appeared in five games this past summer with the Blue Jays' Gulf Coast League affiliate before heading to Southern Mississippi to play football. A Blue Jays spokesperson said Thursday the club is aware of the incident involving Alford but they do no comment on matters before the court.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/11/30/49er-demarcus-dobbs-arrested-after-single-car-accident/ 49er Demarcus Dobbs arrested after single-car accident Posted by Josh Alper on November 30, 2012, 5:51 PM EST You can fill in one inactive for the 49ers’ game against the Rams right now. Defensive tackle/tight end Demarcus Dobbs will not travel with the team to St. Louis after he was arrested early Friday following a single-car accident. Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports that Dobbs has been charged with a pair of misdemeanors for the accident, which occured around 3:45 a.m. in Santa Clara. “He was involved in a crash and we suspect he was under the influence of alcohol,” California Highway Patrol Officer D.J. Sarabia said. “He was not injured and he was also arrested for possession of marijuana.” Dobbs has been a key part of the teams’ special teams units in all 11 games this season. He turned 26 on Friday, which may explain the late night. The 49ers released a statement on Friday about their response to the arrest. “The 49ers are aware of the recent matter involving Demarcus Dobbs. We are gathering the relevant facts as it pertains to this situation,” the statement reads. “We have been in contact with both Demarcus and the League office. He will not be making the trip to St. Louis, and we will reserve further comment at this time.” The 49ers promoted linebacker Michael Wilhoite from the practice squad. Per Maiocco, he should be active and playing on special teams Sunday.
