I went to the podiatrist today because my foot has been killing me the last couple says. Turns out I have gout. I didn't see this coming because I exercise regularly and don't drink often but I guess my low carb diet combined with not drinking enough water contributed to it. I'll tell you this I don't wish this on my worst enemy.

There are a few medications that will work to prevent gout but once you get it you suffer for about a week.

I thought I hurt my foot by playing football years ago and I wound up finding out that I had gout.

My weakness is red meat or shellfish. If I touch either I know I'll be limping in a few hours unless I take the prescribed medication beforehand.

I've had attacks of gout in the big toe, ankle and knee.

I've had it for @ 7 years now. I get attacks @ 3-4 times a year. I'd suggest you get an Rx for Colchicine to do temporary flushes of the uric acid at times. You can also start Allopurinol for maintenance. I'd suggest an Rx for some Hydrocodone as well just in case. When I get my attacks I can't walk for @ a day or two till it flushes out.

The doctor told me if I get another attack he will write me a prescription. Since this is the first time it has ever happened to me I'm going to try to change my diet a little and hydrate better. I got a cortisone shot so I feel okay right now.

I'm a podiatrist.  Smart move getting the cortisone injection.  Definitely drink more waterand modify your diet as needed.  Colcrys (colchicine) is very good for acute attacks.  No need for long term meds (ALLOPURINOL, ULORIC) unless the attacks become more frequent.
