1986-07-22 WWF Miami, FL Battle Royal  W

This result stood out as really weird as he was not winning too many matches at this time.

This result stood out as really weird as he was not winning too many matches at this time.

From Graham Cawthon's site:

WWF @ Minot, ND - State Fair - July 22, 1986
Included King Tonga
WWF @ Fresno, CA - Selland Arena - July 22, 1986
Included George Steele and Ricky Steamboat
WWF @ Miami, FL - Knight Center - July 22, 1986 (4,500)
Scott McGhee won a battle royal
WWF Tag Team Champion Davey Boy Smith defeated Brutus Beefcake
Dick Slater defeated Moondog Rex
Greg Valentine defeated WWF Tag Team Champion the Dynamite Kid
Bob Orton Jr. defeated Scott McGhee
Tony Atlas defeated the Gladiator
The Junkyard Dog defeated King Kong Bundy

WWF had three crews touring at this time, spreading themselves a bit thin. If they had no shows or injuries, they sometimes added battle royals to beef up the card a little. This was probably the case here, as you can also see The Bulldogs and Beefcake/Valentine working singles matches to add another match to the card. I am assuming there was some angle done on the night with McGhee winning the battle royal then losing to Orton.

Since this thread has been dormant for ten years, why not try to jump start things? I have been finding Tri-State clippings along with Diane Devine reports of Midwest cards from the time period of late 1981-March 1982 that were lacking. A look through the TNT Times archives starting around issue #260 or so will yield some info. Also, from Dec 1981 to March 1982, there are 10-12 listings for McGhee on Wrestling Data, with Little Rock being a city that seems to have gained some researcher's interest of late.

That was me. I've been researching the career of Danny McShain with his uncle. I've been going deep into the various towns that McShain worked in, pretty much looking at everything from the 30s to the 80s, and I've added most of what I find to WD. I gave up on updating anything on this site since the formatting bug appeared a few years ago. It's just too much effort to edit long results posts here now, added to the time to add stuff to WD.
