What do you feel was the best WWF tag match of the 1980's?

1984 St. Louis TV taping:

Spike Huber & Brian Blair vs. The Kelly Twins (Pat & Mike)

A nice story built around the Kellys switching in and out illegally and in the end Spike and Blair overcame the odds for a fun bit of exultation in the end.

Interesting question. But I have another, its very common for single matches to end in hr draw, how often did tag matches end in hour draw...Since your asking best tag match, Ive always looked at longer timed matches as greatest match. But most dont pay attention to the time limit in a tag, rather singles they do.

I don't think it happened too often. Off the top of my head, I can't think of one ending in an hour draw outside of Iron Man style matches (most falls in 60 minutes). I think The Rockers and The Rougeaus had some of those in the late 80's.

Having said that, I'm sure someone will remember one or two. It can't have never happened.

Perhaps the Bulldogs v. Dream Team at Mania 2.

It was a good match, but I think it was actually the second-best tag match of the show.

I don't think the best WWF tag match of the '80s could crack JCP's Top 50--or Mid-South, or Memphis. Just something about the way they ran tag matches and the relative importance thereof seemed to limit them. I honestly think the best I've seen is from the very tail end of the decade--Rockers vs. Brain Busters from the 12/89 MSG show.

Hart Foundation vs Anderson & Blanchard Summerslam 89

Rockers vs Anderson & Blanchard matches

Its been about 30 years since I saw the matches Kind of remember Briscos vs Murdoch & Adonis were good, but could be wrong.

For all the "depth" the Whiff had in the tag team ranks during the 80's, there really weren't any standout feuds from an in-ring perspective.  Harts/Bulldogs should have been if it weren't for the fact that The Dynamite Kid was held together with spit and baling wire by that time.  I agree with PeteF3 that the best WWF tag match of the 80's probably wouldn't crack JCP's top 50.

As mentioned, the only feud that truly delivered the goods in the ring was the Rockers vs. Brainbusters.  I saw a house show match between them in Buffalo in February of '89 that was the best live match I saw all decade -- by a country mile.

Didn't see the Kelly Twins match but I did see a good with Huber/Blair against the Moon Dogs.

I was at that show.  Probably the best WWF match I ever saw live.  I saw some that were as good or better many years later in ECW or on the indies, but that was as good as it got for a while there.

I was just watching this on Best of WWF Vol 4 the other night.  I stopped it halfway through, but I should try to re-watch it tonight.  It's a curious match.  Valentine was the IC champ, and, as you said, the Dream Team hadn't won the belts yet.  It was almost like a test run for them as a team, but it also seemed like a test run for Steamboat and Santana (who both wore powder blue trunks in the match).  I wonder how far in advance they were looking in terms of booking.  The match was probably June-ish of '85.
