As PWInsider.com broke last year, TNA planned to reduce PPVs down from their usual 12 live broadcasts a year. Well, TNA has cut their 2013 PPV schedule even more drastically than initially planned. Going forward, the company will produce only four
live PPVs in 2013:

Genesis in January, airing this Sunday 1/13
Lockdown on 3/10
Slammiversary on 6/9
Bound for Glory in October on 10/13

The remaining months, the company will instead produce taped PPVs that will be titled under the "TNA:One Night Only" banner, airing on the first Friday evening of the month before and replaying over the remainder of the. Those shows will remain three hours.

In a press release just issued, TNA President Dixie Carter commented, "The Pay-Per-View industry has changed so much in the last decade. The traditional Pay-Per-View wrestling model needed to evolve and we believe this strategy will positively impact not only the Pay-Per-View events but the weekly television programming as well."

PWInsider.com is working to confirm whether there will be any pricing changes on the PPVs going forward. TNA's press release did not specify any changes.
The company will also produce six "Unfinished Business" PPV specials focusing on older TNA feuds.

TNA will tape their first "One Night Only" PPV specials this Saturday. The first, airing on 4/5 will be X-Division themed. The second will feature a Joker's Wild Tag Team tournament theme and will air 5/3.

The final decision on the PPV plans were made just days ago. Originally the three hour specials were designed for international markets that would lose PPVs. Spike did not come on board to air the three hour specials domestically and earlier this week, the company was mulling over different options on how to roll out that material to fans

As noted earlier on PWInsider.com, TNA will be doing a series of taped "One Night Only" PPV events airing the first Friday night of months they are not broadcasting live PPV events. PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple sources the themes for the taped PPVs will be....

TNA X-Travaganza, featuring the stars of the X-Division (airing in April, taping 1/13).
TNA Joker's Wild Tag Team Special, featuring enemies teaming and a Battle Royal final (airing in May, taping 1/13)

TNA Hardcore Justice 2 - ECW reunion style "hardcore" show featuring hardcore stipulation matches bringing in ECW talents.

TNA "10 Reunion" - Stars from the early days of TNA battling inside a Six-Sided ring.

TNA Knockouts Knockdown - One night Knockout tournament with the first round being all stipulation matches and the final four in a "test of their stamina" to see who the final victor is.

TNA International Incident - One night tournament featuring talent from " United States, India, Mexico, Ireland, Canada, Germany, Japan & the UK" with the winner earning a TNA title shot.

TNA X-Division World Cup Tournament - four teams of X-Division wrestlers in a one night tournament featuring singles, tag, six man and eight man tag bouts.

TNA World Cup of Wrestling - Four teams, each captained by a TNA wrestler featuring a Heavyweight wrestler, a tag team and an X-Division wrestler battling in singles, tag and stipulation bouts. The finale will be a "two ring, triple chance Battle Royal."

There are no confirmed taping dates yet for the PPV specials beyond January.

The newly announced TNA Friday night PPVs will be priced at $14.95. TNA Genesis and TNA Lockdown will still be priced at $34.95.

TNA Slammiversary and all live PPVs that follow will now be priced at $39.95.

TNA Bound for Glory will be the exception to that rule, since it always had a higher price point, and will now be priced at $44.95.

The TNA Unfinished Business PPV pricing will remain the same.

So they're making no change at all except saving some money by not having every PPV be live.  But making the Friday night PPVs seem like throw-aways, their already incredibly low buy rate will be virtually non-existant, making it a waste of money to run them at all.  Just when I thought TNA was starting to get smarter.  Just do 6 regularly-priced live PPVs a year.  How hard is that?  And no way is there ever a justification for Bound For Glory to be more expensive.  It's not Wrestlemania, it's just the same exact PPV as all the others with an awful name that they've subjectively deemed to be their Wrestlemania.  Settle in on a reasonable price point of $25 or $30 (that's even pushing it), put on kick-ass shows, get Meltzer creaming over them once again like he did in 2004, don't book screw-jobs meant to set up TV, don't give away the rematches a week later on TV, and maybe you'll start making money.  This sn't rocket science.

Know how many ECW reunion shows I have watched since 2006?  2.  Both in 2006

The brand is dead.  All these former ECW guys just seem washed up and its telling that with no ECW reunion shows, none of them are in the business much anymore

And really Raven vs Richards in Dreamers fed?  Really?  is it 1996 again?

Raven vs Richards in Douglas Fed too, since Richard won their championship.

All you have to look at is the DVD sales of WWE's ECW sets and the buyrates for WWE's One Night Stands and TNA's first Hardcore Justice...

Numbers Never Lie.

There is still an audience for a well-produced ECW reunion show by a national promotion whether we like it or not. I roll my eyes when I see it happening again and again, but I can't fault someone for wanting to make a dime where they can make a dime.

One of TNA's highest PPV numbers came from the Hardcore Justice show in 2010. It did around 20,000. That's over twice what last year's TNA buyrates were on average.

And to be truthful, TNA probably saves money by running an ECW reunion show PPV because they don't have to waste dates and pay-offs with its higher-payscale ex-WWE talent and most of the ECW guys will come in for a $500 paycheck plus trans.

Except TNA makes no money on admission. WWE and Douglass
Charged admission. Same with Dreamers, which from what I have seen, makes TNA ala 2005 look good.

The laws of diminishing returns are also playing into these ECW shows. Douglass's last one had less then the previous, and Dreamer's also saw a drop as well. Can't blame economy, because Indy Feds in the area are still doing good attendance wise as well.

Really the only fans that still give a shit about ECW are the green lantern type fans, or Mike Johnson type, who refuse to move on and admit the product is dead, and that includes the former wrestlers who try to put this shit on as well, then cry because the show was on trackers

I think the only reason they are doing these pre-taped PPVs in to satisfy the international markets. They have already promised 12 shows to places like the UK and Australia, so they are making them as cheaply as possible. Since they will have them, they might as well try to make a few bucks from them in the US.

But TNA did make money in PPV sales and DVD sales for Hardcore Justice and it was a profitable event in 2010.

And TNA does offer some PPV packages to some fans that create revenue.

I'll say this - an ECW-themed show put on by TNA will make more money than a run of the mill TNA PPV would in 2013.

The first 2 One Night Only PPVs are already set to be taped tomorrow.  Wow, they're really going to have to keep these on ice for a while.  No one's going to care by the time they air.

PWInsider:

Saturday 1 PM and 7 PM TNA One Night Only PPV tapings:
TNA has not specified which special will be taped at which start time, but they will be taping:
-TNA X-Travaganza, featuring an X-Division theme with Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn in their final ever meeting, an Ultimate X Match, an X-Scape match and Petey Williams, The Amazing Red, Matt Bentley and Jimmy Rave appearing in their TNA returns to supplement the current X-Division roster.

-TNA Joker's Wild Tag Team Tournament - Bobby Roode, Christopher Daniels, Rob Van Dam, James Storm, Samoa Joe, Joey Ryan, Jessie Godderz, Matt Morgan, Robbie E, Mr. Anderson, Robbie T, Chavo Guerrero, Hernandez, Zema Ion and Doug Williams compete in a tournament where they are forced to team with their enemies. The winning teams will move on to compete alone in a 12 man Gauntlet for the final victory.

Looks like they already forgot about February.

Taping PPVs two to three months in advance is a horrible idea (see WCW Disney tapings). Speaking of that, I wonder if this was Bischoff's idea?
