With games finally starting this week, we need a Hockey thread. Give your thoughts and predictions on the shortened season. I didn't follow all the transactions except for Parisi and Suter going to the Minnesota Wild. I can only speak from a Chicago perspective. The Hawks did not address their two biggest needs. A second line center and a goalie. A top 4 defense man would be nice but I think that is asking too much. So it's basically the same team as last year. The Hawks will make the playoffs. The might be able to win one playoff series. They might not. In other words, The Hawks ain't winning the Cup.

Blame it on the lockout but there was not much player movement this past off-season and even less involving star players. - Nashville traded Goalie Anders Lindback to Tampa Bay for Goalie Sebastian Caron and three 2nd round draft picks ( 2 in the 2012 Draft and 1 in the 2013 Draft ) - Philly traded Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to Columbus for a 2nd round and 4th round picks in the 2012 Draft and a 4th round pick in the 2013 Draft - Dallas traded Center Mike Ribeiro to Washington for Center Cody Eakin and a 2nd round pick in the 2012 draft - Philly traded LW James van Riemsdyk to Toronto for Defenseman Luke Schenn - Dallas traded Center Steve Ott and Defenseman Adam Pardy to Buffalo for Center Derek Roy The biggest trade took place during the 2012 Draft when Pittsburgh traded Center Jordan Staal to Carolina for Center Brandon Sutter, Defenseman Brian Dumoulin and Carolina's 2012 1st round pick ( 8th overall ) which was used on Defenseman Derrick Pouliot

Thanks CH. Much appreciated. How do you think the Bruins will do this season?

Barring any major injuries that sounds about right to me too. I believe the key this season is how well Tuukka Rask performs as the undisputed # 1 Goalie.

I might be rewarded for sticking with the fucking Rangers last year against NJ. Being from NJ and a long-suffering Ranger fan, I thought about switching to the only team that would call my home state "home". It never started so it never stuck. Rangers, on paper, look the best they have since probably 1996.

The good and the bad of a short season like this is that if you start out strong, you'll likely make the playoffs. To that end, a shitty team that starts strong could hold on and get a playoff run (Leafs fans, I'm looking at you). I can't make any predictions right now about the Hawks except they play 10 of their first 12 on the road, and they really need to go at least 6-6 to stay in the picture, IMO. Less than that, and they have to play catch-up for the next 36 games, and that never works very well for anyone with the OT points involved, never mind everything is inter-conference this year. Stealing points later will be almost impossible. Should be interesting.

Hey, every team that perennially underachieves should be salivating at the thought of the short season. Toronto is one team, but Montreal if Price plays great, Calgary's older squad, and Anaheim with all their supposed firepower are other examples. We that support teams that have been better and more successful in the last few years are the ones that should worry, because even missing the playoffs in a short year will probably invite big changes in the off-season, and I don't think that should be the thought process when you're only playing 48 games instead of 82.

I really think they are just as good as the WWE in putting the right footage with the right music. I do have 2 complaints about tonight's intro though: - not enough Bobby Orr. He's Bobby " I'M THE GREATEST FUCKING HOCKEY PLAYER EVER " Orr so he should have been seen a lot more. - could they not have picked a better sghot of Ovechkin to use ???? He looked like 1ike a pimply faced teenager hoping his face clears up before the next High School Dance.
