http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/02/packers-sign-seneca-wallace-to-back-up-aaron-rodgers/ Packers sign Seneca Wallace to back up Aaron Rodgers Posted by Michael David Smith on September 2, 2013, 10:13 AM EDT When the Packers cut B.J. Coleman, the only backup quarterback on their 53-man roster, we wondered who Aaron Rodgers‘ backup would be. It didn’t take long to find out the answer: Seneca Wallace. Wallace signed with the Packers today, Ed Werder of ESPN reports. As the Packers prepare for their Week One meeting with the 49ers, they now have two quarterbacks who can run the 49ers’ offense to help their defense prepare: Both Wallace and Scott Tolzien, who’s on the Packers’ practice squad, were with the 49ers until last week. Wallace left the 49ers under strange circumstances, with an initial report that he was retiring quickly refuted by Wallace himself. Wallace said that he believes the only reason the 49ers signed him was that they wanted to use his presence as leverage to squeeze backup quarterback Colt McCoy into accepting a pay cut. If Wallace has any hard feelings toward the 49ers for that, he can get his revenge by giving the Packers all the intelligence he can provide before Sunday’s game.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/02/cruz-and-jpp-on-the-practice-field-for-giants/ Cruz and JPP on the practice field for Giants Posted by Darin Gantt on September 2, 2013, 12:12 PM EDT The Giants weren’t at full strength Monday morning, but they did have some key parts back on the practice field. According to Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News, both wide receiver Victor Cruz and defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul were on hand for practice, as the Giants began preparations for the opener against the Cowboys. Center David Baas (knee) did a few positional drills, but was hanging out near the players on on stationary bikes while reporters were watching. While they’d miss Baas, getting Cruz back on the field would be a huge boost for an offense that had its issues during the preseason.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/02/colts-acquire-cam-johnson-from-49ers/ Colts acquire Cam Johnson from 49ers Posted by Darin Gantt on September 2, 2013, 12:30 PM EDT The 49ers had a surplus of linebackers, and continue to turn them into future surplus draft picks. The Colts announced they acquired Cam Johnson from the 49ers for a conditional draft pick. The former seventh-round pick spent most of last year on the practice squad, and gives the Colts some pass-rush potential. The 49ers previously pawned Parys Haralson off on the Saints, as they were encouraged by the progress of rookie Corey Lemonier and the versatility of veteran Dan Skuta.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/03/cowboys-acquire-caesar-rayford-from-colts/ Cowboys acquire Caesar Rayford from Colts Posted by Darin Gantt on September 3, 2013, 4:10 PM EDT Maybe the Cowboys have been hitting the “secret sauce,” in recent days, because they’re suddenly trade-happy. According to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas, the Cowboys have sent a conditional pick in 2015 to the Colts in exchange for defensive end Caesar Rayford. He’s the second player they’ve brought in, after acquiting linebacker Edgar Jones from the Chiefs and sending defensive lineman Sean Lissemore to the Chargers and tight end Dante Rosario to the Bears. The Colts were trying the 6-foot-7 Rayford as an outside linebacker, but his physical stature alone makes him a better fit in a 4-3 defense. The 27-year-old was previously in the CFL and the Arena League, with no NFL experience.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/03/browns-go-from-no-kicker-to-one-cundiff/ Browns go from no kicker to one Cundiff Posted by Darin Gantt on September 3, 2013, 4:17 PM EDT After picking a 53-man roster, the Browns finally decided to add a kicker. According to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports, the Browns have added veteran Billy Cundiff after a workout today. The Browns also worked out former Packers camper Giorgio Tavecchio, and were going to have Dan Carpenter try out before he signed with the Bills. Cundiff spent time with the Redskins and 49ers (as their playoff incentive/insurance for David Akers) last year, and was in camp with the Jets this summer.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/03/cushing-gets-55-6-million-over-six-years-21-million-guaranteed/ Cushing gets $55.6 million over six years, $21 million guaranteed Posted by Michael David Smith on September 3, 2013, 5:57 PM EDT Brian Cushing did well for himself in his new deal with the Texans. A league source tells PFT that Cushing’s deal is a six-year, $55,643,000 contract, with $21 million guaranteed. Cushing was heading into the final season of the five-year, $14 million contract that he signed as the Texans’ first-round pick in the 2009 NFL draft. He could have played out his contract and tested free agency in March, but he and the Texans were both motivated to get a deal done now. The 26-year-old Cushing was voted the Texans’ team MVP in 2011 but saw his 2012 season cut short by a torn ACL. He’s now ready to play out the prime years of his career in Houston, and to get rich doing it.
