Again, the rules.  There are 10 clues regarding a ballplayer from the past, and a photo of said player that is blacked out.  With the revelation of each clue after the first a section is revealed.  Players may ask questions to help them toward their goal of guessing the player in under 10 clues.  The answer to those questions will be given at the judge's (me) discretion - you'll catch on as to what that means soon enough.  The number of clues given before a correct guess corresponds to the amount of points awarded on a 10=1, 9=2, etc. scale.

There is only one winner per round and only one player receives points each round.

Our leader thus far is dogfacedgremlin who despite speaking with a lisp and fighting the urge to flail his limp wrists in glee, leads with 7 points.  Noone else has yet to score.

Now...the game's mystery photo and first clue:

1.    These days I’m a much traveled hitting coach.

How about another clue and a little reveal on the photo.

1.    These days I’m a much traveled hitting coach.

2.    I played in both leagues

You're sort of on the right track, but no.

I always liked Jacoby a lot as a player - one of the bright spots on those bad early-mid 90's A's teams.  Him, Jerry Browne and Kevin Seitzer.  Kickass.

Claro que no.

Just a reminder to our one regular player and all others lurking, you can ask questions that may prompt the revelation of more clues!

Appears I've stumped our blustery defending champion.

Here is another clue.

1.    These days I’m a much traveled hitting coach.
2.    I played in both leagues
3.    I played in 4 world series.

Again guys, ask some questions...it'll help ya.  Some of your guesses would have been eliminated with certain very simple questions.

Last guess before questions, because I'm running out of batting coaches.

Terry Pendleton?

Is this guy a MAJOR LEAGUE hitting coach?

Is he the head, official hitting coach?  (i.e., he's not like a "special assistant hitting coach" or something, is he?)

Yes, he's been the hitting coach for several major league teams.

What do you mean, you believe?  Are you making this guy up?  I've gone through the hitting coaches of all 30 major league clubs, and none of them fit your clues.

This isn't the hitting coach from "Bull Durham" or something, is it?

It is Merv Rettmund, although I must say you were misleading with your responses.  Rettmund is no longer the hitting coach, hasn't been for a year.  "Is" in the questions above is present tense, implying the guy in question should be a current hitting coach.

Protest.  PROTEST!

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!

The remainder of the clues:

1.    These days I’m a much traveled hitting coach.
2.    I played in both leagues
3.    I played in 4 world series.
4.    Of my thirteen big league seasons, only 4 were in the national league
5.    Following my career I was a coach on 3 world series teams
6.    Though most of my playing was in the AL, most of my coaching has been in the NL.
7.    Most recently I lost my job to a former Rookie of the Year
8.    I have never served as a major league manager
9.    My playing days saw me as both a member of the memorable Orioles teams of the early 70’s but also as a member of the Big Red Machine
10. I’m probably the only guy who’s been a hitting coach for Jose Canseco and Ken Caminiti.

Thanks for playing guys!  The game is tied at 7 apiece!

No.  Your question can mean whatever you like it to mean, but you need to be specific in your requests.  Is he current?  No.  Is he a major league hitting coach?  Yes, he has been.

If you want detailed answers ask detailed questions.  You're both the sorest winner and loser I've ever seen.

It is Merv Rettmund,

By the way, your answer here would have been wrong as well.

The man's name is RETTENMUND.  Spelled T-H-E-S-Z.
