Hi all, again...

I've decided on a prize for this game, on a monthly basis.  Beej said him and Claw would handle prizes, but hey, my game, my prizes.  For now at least.  So, the monthly winner, announced the first of each month, will receive one classic baseball video selection from my library of games.

As it stands, the leadership is tied between two esteemed posters, Lobo 316 with 7 points and the inimitable (as if anyone would want to) Dogfacedgremlin, also with 7 points.

The rules.  There are 10 clues regarding a ballplayer from the past, and a photo of said player that is blacked out.  With the revelation of each clue after the first a section is revealed.  Players may ask questions to help them toward their goal of guessing the player in under 10 clues.  The answer to those questions will be given at the judge's (me) discretion - you'll catch on as to what that means soon enough.  The number of clues given before a correct guess corresponds to the amount of points awarded on a 10=1, 9=2, etc. scale.

There is only one winner per round and only one player receives points each round.

And now...

TODAY'S GAME!  I will go slower to allow our evening folks a chance.

The first clue...and the mystery photo:

1. I once played on three teams in one year.

Either everyone's bored with the game already or I'm damned good at stumping y'all.

I will narrow it down to say he was an infielder.  No further.

He played for three teams in one year.  Is that one calendar year or one major league baseball season?

Another clue!

1.    I once played on three teams in one year

2.    All three of those teams finished in last place that year.

I'm quite confident he is not.  Extensive research has turned up no mention of him being employed in baseball currently in any role at any level.

WE HAVE A WINNER AND A NEW LEADER.  I'm gonna give HBF a bonus point for naming the year of the three team journey.

Must have recognized the photo.  Here are the rest of the clues and the photo

1.    I once played on three teams in one year
2.    All three of those teams finished in last place that year.
3.    I played 12 years in the bigs, 10 for the same team.
4.    I made a spectacle of myself during one game with a slight but notable change to my uniform.
5.    Though the Gamesmaster can’t find documentation online, I wore #0 at the end of my career.
6.    My career batting average, in the .220s, wouldn’t keep me in a job today, even at my position.
7.    My name surfaced on this very board recently in reference to the Gamesmaster’s amazing game.
8.    I played in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
9.    I’m the only man in history to have my first career HR be in my first at-bat, and be an inside the park one.
10.  I’d only hit 21 more HR in my career.

So you all have some work to do.  New standings:

HBF.............................9
Lobo316.....................7
Dogfacedgremlin.........7

Yeah, I honestly can't see how Lemaster stuck around for 14 seasons.  His hitting was atrocious.  He must've been a helluva fielder.

Yep he was your traditional "late inning defensive replacement."

I can't find any evidence of it anywhere, but he wore 0 with the A's in '87.  Everything I can find says he wore something else.

My friends and I use to yell at him at Candlestick Park calling him Johnnie Disaster. He wasn't even that good a fielder. Some stupid Giants fans voted him in as the all decade SS for the Giants for the 80's.

Funny the A's used him as a DH for one game.

Who was a better alternative?

Ever heard about how Speier doesn't bathe?  Dude's got no grooming habits at all and by all accounts stinks like unfathomable BO and shit.

This handsome devil?  I don't buy it...

That's pretty gross, though.  Do you think that impacted the fans choosing Lemaster over him?  After all, I don't think I'd want some smelly bastard representing my all-time team.

It's true.  Supposedly it's because he's one of them earthy types - thinks bathing is bad for the environment because it wastes water, etc.

Seriously - I couldnt make this up.
