Jimmy Garvin covers his early days as a teenage manager, death threats from fans, fighting Danny Hodge, creating a gimmick that was ahead of it's time, the nutty WCCW fans, debauchery with the Freebirds, booking while drunk, why he left WCCW while business was still booming, how the Road Warriors handled being asked to job to Garvin, why the AWA feared Garvin would not be professional, how one of the WWF's biggest stars stole his gimmick, the day a hurricane hit his house, why he hated his JCP babyface run, why he never went to the WWF, and much more!

Toronto fans are offered up a rather pitiful card, full of bad refereeing, poor announcing, lousy matches, and botches...all sort of saved by a double main event of Andre the Giant facing Kamala and Sgt. Slaughter brawling with the Iron Sheik....this was a rough one to get through....

Just watched the 1-18-1986 NWA Saturday Night Show. Was very surprised to see "Ray Taylor" gets squashed by the Barbarian (and I mean a very impressive squash including Barbarian power slamming him and then hitting him with the diving headbutt from 3/4 across the ring). Ray Taylor (or Traylor) was of course later on Big Bubba and then Bossman. He looked green as green can be here.

Watching Survivor Series '88 right now to get into the Turkey Day mood. Just watched the first match. Warrior was the lone survivor. Bad News walked out on his teammates. Brunzell ditched the bees tights for the tie-dyed tights from his AWA days. Owen Hart got his testicles busted by Valentine's skull. Danny Davis was eliminated in about one minute. Good stuff.

On to the tag match.

Just finished the 20-man tag match. Phenomenal million-dollar booking all the way. First 20 minutes were about as fast-paced and exciting as anything you could ever want. Tully Blanchard was gold, tagging in and then tagging right back out instead of facing the Barbarian. Dynamite and Jacques Rougeau were in there together for a bit without killing each other too. Rougeaus were the first to be eliminated though, so they had time to high-tail it out. Demo/Powers of Pain finish seemed ok to me, but I can see how it may have been confusing to people in Richfield who didn't see Fuji grab the ropes initially or later hook the Conquistadors leg. Speaking of which, Estrada and Rivera were awesome in the masks. Great ending with them surviving all the way to the end. Good shit.

Watched a ton of wrestling tonight with the Hawks/Sharks on in the background. One of my favorite nights of the year. Gonna hit the hay now so I'm halfway productive tomorrow.

Watched the 2nd half of SSeries '88 last night before bed. Still holds up incredibly well.

The last two matches were heavily overbooked with cutesy shit, but it was all majestically laid out and logical.

Bravo and Perfect won the third match. The match at one point was actually 4-against-1 with Bravo, Perfect, Rude and Andre vs. Roberts. Roberts got a pin on Rude (final ending to their feud) but then was destroyed by Andre to the point that Andre was DQ'd, and then Perfect just came in and got the pin on a half-dead Roberts. I was watching that and noticed all four are now deceased (Bravo/Perfect/Rude/Andre) and Jake is not. Harley Race was their 5th member by the way and looked like he was 70 years old. Scott Casey was on the other team because Brian Blair had quit beforehand.

The main event saw Hogan and Savage survive after Bossman was counted out, Akeem was DQ'd, Hogan was handcuffed to the ropes, Liz pick-pocketed the keys out of Slick's suit after he got knocked off the apron, and then Hogan gave her a hug and Savage went apeshit in the biggest foreshadowing ever without any acknowledgment from Gorilla and Jesse.

Speaking of the announcing, it was much easier to listen to than later combination of Gorilla and Heenan.
Great show.

Survivor Series '89 on the network, and hoping later today some of the early ECW shows. Always enjoy Terry Funk on commentary.

Dag, I was watching Survivor Series '87 Wednesday night as well.  I really like those first 4 or 5.

I've been watching episodes of Monday night raw from October and November of 94.

Backlund turned heel and will meet Bret at survivor series.

Bret, Owen, Davey and the anvil are battling.

Yoko and the undertaker are building to survivor series.

Advertisements for the debuting action zone are running wild.

Macho on commentary with Vince

Go back and watch Rick Rude in the main Event of the 1st Survivor Series.  He got his ass kicked by everyone on Hogan's team twice.  Took every bump imaginable.  I mean, he had no choice when everyone else on his team was 500 lbs but still.  Gold, Jerry, gold.
