So Christmas is over and the next holiday is New Years, and since I don't see a poll option the question is this:   How many of you fuckers are intending on getting hammered on New Years Eve?

I know I am.:)

well dammit, now I see the poll option after the fact

I'm working until 7pm and I don't have concrete plans for afterwards yet. Chances are I'll come home and have a few Korbel And Cokes and lay low.

I haven't gotten shit-faced on NYE in about 5 years when my friend owned a club and got us in without having to deal with the dregs and then we closed it down at about 5:00 AM.  That was the 3rd drunkest I've ever been in my life.  Great night, but a last hurrah as far as I'm concerned for NYE debauchery.  I'd never wait on lines and pay obscene covers at this stage of my life just for the right to party with amateurs who act like they never leave the house the other 364 days a year.

This NYE I'll be doing my best middle-aged man impersonation, taking my wife to dinner and then to see Billy Joel at the Barclays Center.  Then we'll grab a cab back to my neighborhood and if we're not too tired from a night of pop standards we'll meet a couple of my friends at our local bar for a nightcap.  There will probably be some grousing about kids today and the newfangled stuff that they do.  Fists will be shaken.  As we step over a puking 23-year old wearing A&F on the way home, I will threaten to call his parents.

I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't do drugs.

I'll probably watch some football and I might even turn in before the ball drops.

We have a NYE party every year at my house.  I usually feel pretty good by the end but don't make it to shit faced territory.   Wife is not feeling well (horrible cold) so I may be responsible for, uh, whatever she does on that night that adults are responsible for.  So, this may be a lame one for me.

Not at all
I'll be working a regular day and probably keep forgetting that it's even New Year's Eve.

I actually wish I was seeing Billy Joel. I have the Hits vol. 1-3 and when I play it every six months or so I remember just how good Billy's songwriting was. I respect Billy for not putting out average to poor pop albums every few years like so many of his contemporaries.

Snark aside, I'm looking forward to the show, although I've resigned myself to the fact that he likely won't play my favorite song of his (and one of the best written pop songs ever) "Captain Jack".  He' setting up a residency at MSG in 2014, one show a month for the entire year, extending into 2015 for as long as they keep selling out, so although I don't think he'll be touring if you need an excuse to plan a vacation to NYC that's one.  I have a feeling by late in the year, the market is going to be so flooded with Billy Joel tickets that you'll be able to buy them below face on StubHub from the scalpers who are getting stuck with them.  The NYE tickets, however, aren't coming down no matter what.  It's obscene how much they're going for, and how it was impossible to buy them from Ticketmaster when they went on sale.  Sold out in seconds and they were all on StubHub within an hour.

Is there a reason why he won't sing that song anymore?  I have seen him in concert 3 times but the last time was about 10 years ago.

Have no idea, but setlist.fm shows that he hasn't played it live since 2009.

You haven't lived until you've taken a NYC train very late on New Year's Eve.  The last time I did it was probabaly a good 5-6 years ago, when I saw a guy with a bloody gash under his eye wearing no shoes or socks and with no jacket stumble onto the train.  He must've had a good story to tell.  Last night, I took the train home from the Barclays Center because it seemed easier and safer than taking a cab back, and I didn't see anything quite that good, but 2 different women threw up on the same exact spot about 6 stations apart.  The second one had very good presence of mind to aim for the same spot that was already a mess so as not to ruin another spot on the crowded train, so kudos to her.

Anyway Billy Joel still puts on one hell of a show.  No Captain Jack but he played lots of other lesser known songs he hasn't played in forever (most of which I didn't like honestly, but I'm not exactly in his demo), and the 2nd half of the show picked up after midnight and was really fun.  His band is really amazing too, especially Carl Fischer who plays some brass instruments.  He played for 2 hours 15 minutes.  The only disappointment was that there was no special guests after everyone from Paul McCartney to Jay-Z had been rumored to be there.

That's a pretty good set list. I love "The Stranger" album as it reminds me of my childhood.
