I think to some extent, all fans of wrestling today are smarks, including the WWE target audience, kids. All these kids have internet access and smart phones. When CM Punk disappears, they know why because they've read it online.

I HATE the 'smart crowd' but I don't think it's going away anytime soon.

I do not think the greater majority of the fan base are smart marks.  I belive there are just more total due to our society, the internet and the mean in which TV and wrestling is delivered.

An indy fed in my area rans shows almost monthly for almost two years, and it was so much fun going to those shows.  Even though maybe I would be considered a smart mark, and I think that's stretching it, I'm just a fan who enjoys learning the history and watching the old stuff, I found there was much more obnoxious smart marks in this indy audience.

many of these fans toured around catching the indy shows of the area and many of them followed the local indy circuit.  They would berate and carry on to the wrestlers, and not in a way that a 'fan' would.  They were just obnoxious idiots.

despite any 'knowledge' I have/had, I always made a point to enjoy the show, yell, boo and cheer and have fun!  sure I would chant a bit, but it would be a chant that would make sense.  Nothing "smart" or to embarrass an indy wrestler.

The "worst" thing I did was call Kody Deaner "Bart Gunn."  The guy seemed to legitimately despise that!

The average wrestling fan is "smarter" today than the "smart fans" from 20 years ago and that is what you are seeing.

I keep my 'smartness' to a minimum when I attend shows. At a CHIKARA event, I go simply to enjoy the show and the atmosphere. ROH shows, I wen to see some good wrestling. WWE I go to when I can afford the ticket and the time to spare.

Of the three, the WWE shows are to me the most irritating. All those signs (even at non-televised house shows-WTF?); all those people checking out the local Titontron so they can watch themselves watching themselves. Pointless.

The worst part is standing in line and listening to some guy try to show how smart he is to the business-and get everything wrong. At first I wanted to jump in and correct the doofuses, but that was just the teacher in me. It's easier to just try and ignore them and focus on the asses of the women standing in front of you.

In terms of value for my dollar, WWE comes in last.
