Oh good.  Now if they can get the old gang back together with Dwight Hicks and Ronnie Lott, they'll have something.  BTW what jersey number is Earl Cooper this year?

Not crazy about the Peppers deal. He's not a 3-4 DE, so it remains to be seen how they use him. Lotta money being paid to a guy who looks to be no more than a situational player.

Will be interesting though. Packers needed to do something different on the defensive side. Matthews and Peppers coming off the same side could be scary.

Peppers was mediocre last year. Remains to be seen what he has left.

I usually don't bad mouth ex-Giants, but Nicks flat out quit on the team last year. 0 TDs, cost Eli at least 3-4 INTs with his give up on routes, and he asked out of the Dallas game that would have got the Giants back to .500 last year that they lost by 3 points. Fuck him and his lackadaisical attitude.

With you being a Bears fan Claw, you've seen the Packers pack Da Bears fudge many times. Not crazy about this signing but he's gotta be an upgrade from last season, the down linemen had little to no pressure up front last season.

Emmanuel Sanders has agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the Broncos worth $15 million, but the process that led him there left the other teams involved fuming and crying foul. One team official claimed Sanders' agent broke "every rule in negotiations."

Agent Steve Weinberg, on behalf of the wide receiver, accepted a deal with the Chiefs in principle, according to one team source. Weinberg then engaged in negotiations with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to another source involved in the process.

While shopping the Chiefs' offer to the Bucs, Weinberg never explained that he had already accepted the terms of Kansas City's offer. Later in the night, Sanders' agent had agreed to terms with the Broncos, which is where he is currently headed. Sanders and Weinberg also rankled the 49ers by agreeing to visit, then blowing it off.

"This was one of the worst situations in modern football negotiations," one executive involved said. "Totally wrong. This needs to be stopped."

Reached at his home late Saturday, Weinberg declined to comment on the record when informed of the allegations. However, his client addressed the matter at a Sunday news conference announcing the signing.

Yes I've seen the Packers kill the Bears many times. I hate the Packers and that's a good thing. Rivalries are good for the NFL. Peppers is old. He could help the Pack early in the season. Last year he was playing on one leg and was mediocre. The question about Peppers is two fold.

1 Has he lost it and will he continue to his downward trend?

2 Can he stay healthy or will he get injured again and have another sub par season?

If he stays healthy the entire season, he can help provided his skills haven't diminished any more. He could take pressure of Clay Mathews. It's a good gamble by Green Bay. Only 7.5 million of the 30 million dollar contract is guaranteed. Green Bay is trying to win now. I still think Seattle and San Fran are better than them but Rodgers is a better QB than Wilson or Kaepernick. In the end, Green Bay will go as far as Aaron Rodgers takes them.

Unless Kyle Orton is retiring then this is a bit of an odd signing by the Cowboys.

from dallascowboys.com:

The Dallas Cowboys have signed former first-round pick Brandon Weeden to a two-year deal.

Most of the focus early Monday centered on defensive tackle Henry Melton’s visit and the expected visit of defensive end Jared Allen on Tuesday, but the former Browns quarterback also visited Valley Ranch on Monday and reached a two-year deal worth a total of $1.23 million.

Weeden was immediately thrown into the mix in Cleveland, starting 15 games his rookie season in 2012 and throwing for 3,385 yards with 14 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He played in eight games with five starts last season for the Browns, totaling nine touchdowns and nine interceptions.

One of Weeden’s 20 starts and 23 games played came against the Cowboys in 2012, when he threw for 210 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in a 23-20 overtime loss at Dallas. Weeden, the No. 22 pick just two years ago, was released last week.

Despite getting drafted in 2012, Weeden is already 30 years old and will turn 31 in October. He began his college football career at Oklahoma State late after pursuing a career in professional baseball.

The Cowboys still have Kyle Orton on the roster as Tony Romo's backup, though there’s speculation about whether or not Orton will return next season despite being under contract. Owner/general manager Jerry Jones made it clear at the NFL Scouting Combine he wants Orton, who could choose to retire, to return in 2014.

“Let me put it like this, I haven’t talked to him and we haven’t talked to him directly about anything that has to do with him not playing,” Jones said from Indianapolis in February. “I’m assuming he’s going to play.”

As it stands, Weeden would be the third quarterback on the depth chart behind Romo and Orton, providing another arm at camp and competition for the backup spot. The Cowboys have rolled with just two quarterbacks on the depth chart since Orton’s been with the team. They carried three in 2011.

The Cowboys clearly want more arms at camp and capable backups heading into the 2014 season, particularly with Romo coming off major back surgery.

Orton, who’s got a $3.25 million base salary and counts $4.37 million against the cap in 2014, nearly led the Cowboys into the playoffs in Week 17 of the 2013 season. He went 30-of-46 for 358 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, one of which sealed the win for the Eagles in the win-or-go-home season finale.

Weeden, Jeremy Mincey and Terrel McClain are currently the only free-agent signings the Cowboys have made so far. They had another deal set up with linebacker Will Herring before it got called off. After the departures of DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher, the free agent focus will now turn to Melton and Allen.
