We have all heard of the infamous "board" that one had to be approved by to get the NWA World title. And that the guy getting the belt had to put a "deposit" up to get it also.

How about the tag team titles though? How were those changes done? Did those guys have to put up a deposit of some kind as well.

How many "World tag team Champions" were there is the NWA? I am thinking that San Fran had champions that may not have matched who the "World tag team Champions" were in North Carolina. But I can't imagine each office having their own either because geographically you were still too close to other offices and areas to pull it off.

Any help appreciated.

The NWA didn't officially recognize a World Tag Team Championship until '92 when WCW had that tournament at a Clash. The idea was proposed at the conventions, and Sam Muchnick was a proponent, but it was voted down, most likely because members didn't want to pay an extra booking fee for tag champ dates. Individual members could run their own World Tag Champs, most notably in Detroit, San Francisco, and the Carolinas.

Okay I am there with you but didn't the "NWA" have offices internationally, and in the Carolinas, Florida, Georgia ... how many "World Tag team Champions" in the NWA were there.

From what I can tell, the Mid Atlantic version of the championship seems to be recognized as the one where the lineage takes us to the 90s. Is that right?

The Mid Atlantic version kind of morphed into what most people thought of as the "official" NWA Tag Champs (although it really wasn't) only because Jim Crockett, Jr was basically controlling everything about the NWA at that time since the NWA  pretty much effectively died as a true "alliance" after Sam Muchnick retired.

From the way it looks, pretty much every NWA office at one time or another had their own version of the NWA Tag Champs.

As you will see, the titles came and went in each area.

I would kind of be interested if anyone has any insight why the titles came/went and sometimes were replaced with a lesser version. For example it looks like in Tennesee the last NWA Tag Champs ended up being Kevin Sullivan and Mike Graham. The titles were replaced with either the Southern Tag or Mid American Tag depending on what side of the State you lived on.

Another example is Central States, they used the World Tag belts from 1973 to 1978 or so. The area went North American Tag champs1961-1973. Then upgraded the top belt to the World in 1973 but demoted their top belts all way down to Central States in 1978.
