Might not have been, but an argument can be made that neither was Ozzie Smith because he wasn't exactly a great hitter or RBI machine.

I would say a case could be made for Jeter in 1999 and 2000 as to when he might've been in the "best SS in baseball" conversation.

I agree in the 1999/2000 period as well.
If you discount Roids (Aroid and Tejada, along with an obviously developed NOMAR), he was the best SS in baseball for almost his entire career.
