For this year's pool I'm going to change the rules just a bit. If one of your picks gets fired, gets reassigned within the organization or simply quits then you will get points. Simply put - if you pick a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager or GM and at some point he no longer has that position for any reason you will get points.

Scoring will also be a bit different this year. I will now be making any " island picks " worth 2 points since it's hard to come up with a name that nobody else picks. I'm also going to be adding a " Sure Thing " pick. If you score with your 10 point pick then you will receive an extra 10 points but if your 10 point pick still has the same position on January 1 - 2016 then you will lose 10 points.

Since I'm a bit late making this thread the deadline for sending in your 10 picks will now be 12 pm January 2nd. You can either post them here or PM them to me to keep the other players from seeing your picks. You have my word as a Cowboy fan ( and I know that carries a lot of weight around here ) that I will not look at your picks until I post them here. If one of your picks gets fired between now and 12 pm January 2nd then you can replace that pick and put your new pick anywhere on your list. While there is no actual prize given to the winner I would think that S & W bragging rights is really the best prize of all.

Hey HBF, is your #1 guy your ten point pick or is it vice-versa?

Please put the point number beside the names. As for the 3-headed monster in New Jersey - I think the best thing to do is to make another pick unless you think all 3 will be gone at some point.

Picks on their way.  Had my Dead Pool Picks pretty much ready to go and then that ungrateful bitch Luise Rainer went and died.  She could have waited a couple days, no?
Zsa Zsa Gabor's been dodging the bullet for what, a decade now?  Figure if I give it a few more hours the Raiders will hire and fire a handful of coaches.

If anybody that PM'd me their picks had Jim Haslett ( Defensive Co-ordinator - Washington Redskins ) on their list you need to pick a replacement as he quit / got fired today.

Any lists that had Doug Marrone ( Head Coach Buffalo Bills ) need to be revised.

Although there are some Managers on that list I'm fairly certain that these picks are for the Dead Wrestlers Pool.

Correct - HBF ( 11 points ) is now in 3rd place behind both lobo316 and myself ( 20 points ). I'll be doing updated standings at the end of every month.

I'll be happier getting 8 points for an axing of Tom Quinn than the 10 points I'd get for Derek Fisher.

Maybe, but Fox is an excellent coach and will have a job of his choice this off-season.

The Orlando Magic have fired head coach Jacque Vaughn, sources told ESPN on Thursday.
The Magic dropped their 10th straight game -- and have lost 16 of their last 18 games -- with a 110-103 loss at San Antonio on Wednesday.

[+] EnlargeKevin C. Cox/Getty ImagesJacque Vaughn had a 58-158 record in his two-plus seasons as coach of the Orlando Magic.
Sources told ESPN that the players will be told at a mandatory team meeting Thursday. The Magic has scheduled a news conference for 4 p.m.
Vaughn, 39, is in his third year as Orlando's coach and has a 58-158 record. A former Spurs assistant coach under Gregg Popovich, Vaughn was hired to guide the Magic in their post-Dwight Howard era.
He also played for the Magic during his 12-year career as a point guard.
With the club essentially starting over, Orlando was patient with Vaughn while the Magic went 43-121 over his first two seasons. But as the club has improved its roster this season, the results didn't match expectations -- and has the same 15-37 record as it had through 52 games in the 2013-14 season.

Vaughn Worst Among Magic CoachesStan Van Gundy left as Orlando's all-time leader in win percentage when he was relieved of his duties following the 2011-12 season. Jacque Vaughn, his replacement who was fired Thursday, leaves with the worst win percentage in Magic history, excluding interim coaches.
Win PctStan Van Gundy.657Brian Hill.582Chuck Daly.561Doc Rivers.504Johnny Davis.378Matt Guokas.338Jacque Vaughn.269-- ESPN Stats & Information
The Magic's .269 win percentage over the past three seasons under Vaughn is the worst in the NBA during that span, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Vaughn's win percentage is the worst ever among Magic coaches and the second-worst in NBA history among coaches with at least 200 games. Only Sidney Lowe, who coached parts of two seasons with the Timberwolves and three seasons with the Grizzlies, has a worse win percentage.
It is likely the Magic will promote one of their assistant coaches to interim head coach, but several league executives have speculated that former Magic player Scott Skiles could be a front-runner for the job. Skiles played five of his 10 NBA seasons with the Magic, enjoying the best years of his career there.

It's about time.  I knew I should have had that mofo higher on my list.  4 points plus 2 for an island pick.  A little shocked that no one else picked the douchebag.

it's official

Sacramento Kings head coach Tyrone Corbin has officially been relieved of his coaching duties, the team announced Thursday.

Corbin, who took over on an interim basis when Mike Malone was fired, had his interim tag lifted at the end of December. He was informed earlier in the week that he would be removed as coach after the All-Star break.

He has chosen to continue working with the team as an advisor to the front office.

"I have the utmost respect for Tyrone as a coach and person," Kings general manager Pete D’Alessandro said. "He’s a man of great integrity, a consummate professional that managed a difficult situation with class and professionalism. I look forward to continuing to work with Tyrone moving forward."

The Kings have a reported four-year, $14.5-million deal in place with George Karl to replace Corbin.

Eh, they finished pretty good and played "better" under him than Dallas Eakins, so I think he sticks around for now.

I don't think Peters in Carolina will go anywhere either right now...maybe if they start out terrible next year he gets gassed before Christmas.

Toronto fired both GM Dave Nonis and Head Coach Peter Horachek today. Nonis was worth 8 points for me and vaults me into 1st place. The next few weeks should see a lot of us scoring points as a bunch of NHL and NBA teams will start cleaning house.

Nobody had Nolan on their list but lots of NHL and NBA picks that could soon be worth some points.

My NBA picks have already been shit canned so other than McLellan(Sharks) and a couple MLB managers I have to wait till football season and i could be dead by then.

Some rumors coming out of San Jose that the Sharks will be firing Todd McLellan on Wednesday. If true some here will be adding some points to their total.

Leafs, Oilers, Flyers?  Where does he go from here.  Pretty sure he get another job pretty quick?
Hey can we win twice with the same guy if some poor doufus manages to get two teams to shitcan him in a year.  Like Mclellan for instance.  He's gone today and is hired by Toronto and he starts next season 3-17 and is canned.  Another 8 points for me?  And well bupkis for khawk, just because........it's khawk.

lol

I, sir, an faaaaar more than a two-time loser. :)

McClellan will be wherever he lands next for a while. If Babcock leaves Detroit I can see him ending up there pretty easily. If Babs stays, Shanny would be nuts not to consider him in Tronna.
..and if I were him I would avoid Philly like the plague until they get a goalie that's actually decent and can stay healthy. Good luck with that...

to lobo's question, I'd say it's something to consider if someone took Bryan Murray (Gm of Ottawa). He's got cancer and doesn't look well whenever they show him at the games.

Either way it will happen soon enough

Yup - check out Post # 1 from this thread.

CanadianHorseman wrote:For this year's pool I'm going to change the rules just a bit. If one of your picks gets fired, gets reassigned within the organization or simply quits then you will get points. Simply put - if you pick a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager or GM and at some point he no longer has that position for any reason you will get points.

The Chicago Bulls fired head coach Tom Thibodeau on Thursday, bringing an end to years of palace intrigue within United Center and weeks of speculation that the increasingly tense relationship between the Bulls front office and the hard-charging and remarkably successful coach had run its course after five seasons.

Bud Black's nine-year tenure in San Diego ended unceremoniously on Monday.

Following a disappointing start to a season accompanied by high expectations, the Padres relieved Black of his duties Monday afternoon, installing bench coach Dave Roberts as interim manager while they search for a permanent replacement.

Black survived general manager A.J. Preller's radical offseason overhaul - the newly hired executive acquired Matt Kemp, Craig Kimbrel, Wil Myers, and James Shields (among others) this winter - and was entrusted with leading San Diego back to relevance after four straight losing seasons.

Initially, the Padres' revamped roster seemed poised to contend for a playoff spot after storming out to a 10-5 record. Shortly thereafter, however, a prolonged offensive slump and some porous defense negated much of the enthusiasm generated through the first weeks of the season. The Padres have stumbled to a 22-28 record since April 15.

Black, who took over as manager in 2007, compiled a 649-713 record (.477) during his tenure with the Padres. The 57-year-old earned the National League's Manager of the Year award in 2010 after leading the Padres to a 90-72 record.

Danny Ferry resigns as GM of Atlanta Hawks.

Danny Ferry officially stepped down from his position as general manager of the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, ending a tumultuous, elongated split for he and the team.

Ferry was granted an indefinite leave of absence from his duties as GM and president of basketball operations in September after it was revealed that during a June meeting with Hawks management, he read aloud a racist comment about Luol Deng contained in a scouting report.

It was revealed this weekend that a law firm's investigation into the matter found Ferry's comments were not motivated by a negative, racial bias.

It has been reported throughout June that Ferry would not be retained by the Hawks, and that head coach Mike Budenholzer will take over as team president.

In a media release to make Ferry's departure official, Hawks CEO Steve Koonin spoke glowingly about Ferry:

This season has proved two things. First, Danny Ferry is a tremendous GM. Danny was the principal architect of the Hawks' success in Atlanta. From the hiring of Coach Bud to reinventing the roster, Danny's vision has put us in the tremendous place we are today. Danny acted with integrity and professionalism as he guided the organization through important changes over the last few years. Second, Danny Ferry is not a racist. Danny showed great leadership in stepping aside in the fall so the season could proceed with as few distractions as possible. He has always put the team first despite the great personal difficulties he endured. Now that the team has identified new ownership, the resolution of Danny’s contract with existing ownership is appropriate. We wish Danny and his family only the best moving forward.

Team owner Bruce Levenson announced his intention to sell the Hawks in September, after self-reporting an August 2012 email he wrote that contained offensive stereotypes about the team's African-American fan base and comparisons between black and white fans.

The Hawks' sale to Tony Ressler is expected to be finalized June 24.

"While the past year has been incredibly difficult and humbling, it is critical for me to clear my name and for people to realize that I have always built a culture of respect, diversity, and honesty," Ferry said in Monday's Hawks statement.

Now that the key facts have been made known, I am making the difficult decision to step away from this team and this special group of players. I have seen how gracious and forgiving people can be - especially Luol, who had every right to be hurt and angry after being brought into this situation. I thank him for his forgiveness and support. I also greatly appreciate that our players and coaches have been supportive, along with so many friends, old and new. As the Hawks move to a new chapter, I will continue to support the players and wish them the continued success that they and the fans of Atlanta deserve.

With the Hawks enjoying a franchise record 60-win season in the aftermath of the controversy, the team submitted Budenholzer's name for Executive of the Year instead of Ferry's. Budenholzer, who took home Coach of the Year honors, subsequently finished third in the voting, but he's maintained his praise of Ferry as the team architect.

"Building a successful team takes more than attracting a few stars," Budenholzer said. "It is about finding the right combination of talent and teamwork to become an unbeatable combination. Danny's vision and decision-making shaped the team that fans celebrate on the court today."

The Seattle Mariners have fired GM Jack Zduriencik, the team announced Friday.

#Mariners relieve Jack Zduriencik of GM duties. Assistant GM Jeff Kingston will handle GM responsibilities for remainder of the 2015 season.

— MarinersPR (@MarinersPR) August 28, 2015
The Mariners have struggled to a 59-69 record this year despite high expectations entering the season.

Zduriencik was in his seventh season as head of the Mariners' baseball operations.

Cashman would win that award hands-down but his Yankees never had a down period.

And me and everyone who didn't put Amaro on our lists should automatically be disqualified for being idiots.

Do offensive line coaches count ?

The Cleveland Browns and offensive line coach Andy Moeller agreed to part ways Tuesday.

Moeller was suspended indefinitely by the Browns on Sept. 7 after allegedly assaulting a woman, who named herself as his fiancee. Criminal charges were not filed against him.

Cleveland knew that Moeller would not return to the team after being suspended, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

The Browns released the following statement:

The Browns and Offensive Line Coach Andy Moeller have mutually agreed to part ways, effective immediately. While no charges were filed in connection with the recent accusations asserted against him, and which Andy vehemently denies, he has advised the Browns that he desires to devote his full attention and focus on his family. Andy states that this was a difficult decision but the right one for him, his family, and the Club at this point in time.

I don't think any of the rest of your guys get fired.  When Couglin gets booted(20 points), Gus Bradley 5, Robin Ventura 5, and Doug Martin(0-4 and team looks awful)4, all get fired, things will look a little different.

Yeah - I just gotta hope at least some of those guys hand on until January 1st. Don't forget that if somebody's top pick ( in your case it's Coughlin ) is still there by the end of the year then they lose 10 points. That's why Carlyle and Sparano getting canned really helps Benlen, lobo316 and me.

True enough I guess, it doesn't help that the Giants last game of the season is January 3rd 2016.  Can't see him back and he'll net me 20 points off the hop next year then as he'll be my 10 point pick again.    Of course he might be gone when the Giants lose to the hapless Cowboys in a few weeks.

Yup - you're right and now with 14 pts you slide into 4th place overall. I looked at the wrong version of the standings before you got points for Grant. I'll put up an updated version of the Standings later tonight.

Going to a much larger and likely more profitable for him American market.  Plus I'm sure he figures that he got the Jays as close as he was going to get them to the brass ring.  Betting he's got a pretty good idea that all the FA's are going places far and wide and next year may see the team start to decline.

So, who is looking for a GM out there?

There are rumors that in their first meeting, Mark Shapiro scolded AA for
trading away the future in the David Price deal.

While IMO he didn't do much good for them in the post season it could be argued that if the trade for Price had not been made there would have been no post season.  People sure are thin skinned though because i would have thrown it back in Shapiro's face.

The Houston Rockets have fired head coach Kevin McHale, according toYahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.
J.B. Bickerstaff will become the interim coach, reports Yahoo. The 4-7 Rockets are struggling mightily so far this season, sandwiching losing streaks of four and three games around four wins in a row. The team's defense has been in absentia, giving up 106.5 points per 100 possessions, good for second-last in the NBA.
Offensively, they haven't fared much better, ranking 24th.
Following Monday's loss to the Boston Celtics, a crestfallen McHale lamented the team's lack of intensity and hinted at lineup changes. Rockets players also held a team meeting later described as "productive."
McHale has coached Houston for four-plus seasons, compiling a regular-season record of 193-130, with a trip to the Western Conference Finals last year.
Bickerstaff is the son of longtime NBA coach Bernie Bickerstaff.

Fixed the standings after Count Grog scored big with his 10 point pick and moved into 2nd place. Count Grog also notified me that I gave him 6 points for Ken Whisenhunt which should have gone to Benlen instead. Remember this Benlen - if you end up winning this thing you had better thank Count Grog in your Acceptance Speech.

Updated Standings as of November 24 - 2015

1 - CanadianHorseman ( 64 points ) Randy Carlyle ( 10 pt pick + 10 pt sure thing pick ) and Dave Nonis ( 6 pt pick + 2 pt island pick ) and Craig Berube ( 8 pt pick + 2 pt island pick ) and Todd Nelson ( 9 pt pick + 2 pt island pick )  and Mike Babcock ( 4 pt pick + 2 pt island pick ) and Ruben Amaro ( 7 pt pick + 2 pt island pick )

2 - Count Grog ( 42 points ) Joe Philbin ( 7 pt pick ) and Anthony Grant ( 2 pt pick + 2 pt island pick ) and Todd Richards ( 1 pt pick + 2 pt island pick ) and Al Golden ( 4 pt pick + 2 pt island pick ) and Paul Rhoads ( 10 pt pick + 10 pt sure thing pick + 2 pt island pick )

3 - Benlen ( 33 points ) Tony Sparano ( 10 pt pick + 10 pt sure thing pick + 2 pt island pick ) and Don Mattingly ( 1 pt pick + 2 pt island pick ) and Ken Whisenhunt ( 6 pt pick + 2 pt island pick )

All right then - since 2015 is ending soon I guess I'll post the official rules for the 2016 Pool now:

- all picks must be received ( via PM so nobody can see them until all picks are posted ) by 6 pm Eastern on January 1st.  If one of your picks gets fired between the time you submit your picks and 6 pm Eastern January 1st then you can replace that pick and put your new pick anywhere on your list. All replacement picks must be submitted by 6 pm Eastern January 2nd. While there is no actual prize given to the winner I would think that S & W bragging rights is really the best prize of all.

- if one of your picks gets fired, gets reassigned within the organization or simply quits then you will get points. Simply put - if you pick a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager or GM and at some point he no longer has that position for any reason you will get points.

- scoring will be exactly the same as the 2015 version.  All " island picks " will be worth 2 points since it's hard to come up with a name that nobody else picks. I'm also going to be adding a " Sure Thing " pick. If you score with your 10 point pick then you will receive an extra 10 points but if your 10 point pick still has the same position on January 1 - 2017 then you will lose 10 points.

Good luck - based on the probable 2015 results you jabronis are gonna need it.

Everybody from the 2015 Pool has now submitted their 2016 picks. Hopefully we can get a few more of the " sports guys " to join up this year.

Anyway - by a 4-1 vote Pagano has been removed from consideration for the 2016 Pool. So everybody involved has a couple of choices - you can simply replace Pagano on your list or you can PM me a complete new list. Because this is happening pretty late I'll move the deadline up to 9 PM Eastern. I'll post all the picks after that time.

Well I sucked in this pool. However, it's been a good week. Won my fantasy league with Kirk Cousins at QB, which is a gift from the gods, and received a GM/MT 10 Graded Eli Manning rookie card from Benlen from our bet earlier (Ben's a class act!!!!!!!!).
