By far the coolest Piper tribute. MSG puts him on the marquee one last time. https://twitter.com/TheGarden/status/628220587534602240/photo/1

Bob Barnett just posted on Facebook that Rob Feinstein is being accused that he bought a bunch of Roddy Piper print portraits at Fanfest over the weekend, then showed up a couple hours later and started selling them miraculously with Piper's signatures on them. The guy who sold them to RF called him out on his Facebook page and RF deleted him and anyone else who posted about it. Barnett now said he won't rest until RF is finished lol. This should provide us some good entertainment for awhile.

Wow - that's not only extremely low, that's also extremely stupid. To me, that's something worthy of it's own thread. I'm curious to see what happens because of it.

Numerologists will point out that the initials R.P. are the 18th and 16th letters of the alphabet. Despite the capitalized versions of each looking nearly identical, you cannot pretend they are the same.

Was just pondering something....was it Wrestlemania 6 or 7 that is considered the "cursed" mania? I believe it was WM6. Add Dusty and Piper to the list...up to 14 now.

It's funny, because I believe WM VI is the so called "cursed" one, but WM VII isn't any better. By my calcs, 14 of the 41 who participated in some form at WM VI are dead (34%), while 32% (15 of 47) of those that were at WM VII are dead. Here's the list: At both WM VI and VII: Andre, Bossman, Earthquake, Hercules, Perfect, Piper, Savage, Sherri, Warrior At WM VI but not at VII: Bad News Brown, Elizabeth, Rhodes, Rude, Sapphire At WM VII but not at VI: Paul Bearer, Bravo, Bulldog, Crush, Hawk, Kerry von Erich Last edited on Fri Aug 7th, 2015 11:29 pm by dogfacedgremlin34 ____________________ "I'm putting your worthless fucking ass on ignore so I don't have to read anymore of your pompous arrogant New York big shot bullshit. Actually Bravo worked WM6. I miscounted originally because I forgot about Bad News. I think the count for WM6 is 15. Not to be crass, but skimming down the lineup, there are a few guys that are in bad shape now (Heenan and Superfly, perhaps Jake). Crazy sad.

It was also 25 years ago now and some of those guys weren't even that young then. At s certain point it becomes less surprising when everyone dies. Everyone who played in the 1905 World Series is dead now, but I don't consider the event cursed.

There's a world of difference between what your saying and the reality of the situation. Haven't done the math, but the average age of the deceased from WM VI and VII is probably somewhere around 45. It's not like these guys and ladies passed away peacefully in their sleep in the old folks home. Hell, I think Dusty lived the longest of the crew, and he was only 69. Piper's probably second, and he was only 61. Two months ago, the average was probably closer to 41 or 42. Point is, it seems to me hard living/other poor life decisions had more to do with the death of this 20 rather than simply the passage of time.

As a point of reference, however, SuperBowl 24 (same year, 1990), had 44 players in the starting lineups, and only one of them has passed away.

Not based on how many died within like 10 years of the show but how more are obviously going to continue to die until everyone is dead.

Actually, there may have been more steroids being shot into asses in the NFL than in wrestling at the time. The thing that destroyed wrestlers was the travel.

The average life expectancy for football players appears to be mid to late 50's. Came across this where Matty Shitbird(can't be his real name) did a study of the 250 most recent wrestler deaths. This only goes up to 2006 so in all likelihood the numbers are a little different: http://198.66.194.52/PWDW/Stats.htm In comparison, MLB players life expectancy was somewhere in the neighborhood of high 70's to low 80's. Saw a study somewhere but can't find it right now. Travel would certainly be a factor for wrestlers as well as the unbelievable schedules many kayfabe era wrestlers kept up. With little or nothing to do on the road but wrestle and drink and the need to be able to perform every night, injured or not due to no insurance, drugs became one of the major food groups for many wrestlers. Still, as has been pointed out none of these guys are getting any younger. Even if the drop dead date for the end of kayfabe was 1990, say, that 25 years ago. So even the wrestlers we watched who were in their prime at say 30 would be 55+ now. Very sad that such iconic wrestling figures as Dusty Rhodes, Roddy Piper, Randy savage are gone but it's just going to keep happening and unfortunately it likely won't be that long from now that some of the guys we are watching at this moment will leave us. The saddest part is that you can probably name on one hand(or maybe you can't) the wrestler's of today who have the kind of impact that so many of the kayfabe era had on us.

I tend to believe some of drug related deaths in wrestling would have happened whether they were wrestlers or not just like druggie deaths in music industry would have happened whether they had bankable talent or not. Some people are destined for that road regardless of occupation
