With the decks cleared, the Maple Leafs have activated 5 Marlies for tonight's game against the Lightning (and possible future Leaf Steven Stamkos): William Nylander, Kasperi Kapanen, Nikita Soshnikov, Zach Hyman, and Ben Smith.  Nylander, a first round pick in 2014 is universally viewed as one of the top 5 prospects in the NHL.  Kapanen is a former first round pick of the Penguins who came over in the Phil Kessel trade.  The other three are roster fill, although some say Soshnikov has shown signs of NHL talent.
I'm pretty excited to see what Nylander can do.  Unfortunately, he's going to be deposited onto a roster of garbage and probably won't get a chance to shine until next year at the earliest.

The Montreal Canadiens claimed forward Mike Brown on waivers from the San Jose Sharks on Monday.

Brown, 30, had one goal, two assists and 63 penalty minutes in 44 games for the Sharks this season.

In 393 NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and Sharks, he has 18 goals, 34 points and 751 penalty minutes.

The Canadiens face the Sharks on Monday at SAP Center (10:30 p.m. ET; FDS, SNE, CSN-CA, NHL.TV).

Oilers add two -- The Edmonton Oilers on Monday claimed forward Adam Cracknell on waivers from the Vancouver Canucks and defenseman Adam Pardy on waivers from the Winnipeg Jets.

Cracknell, 30, had five goals and 10 points in 44 games this season for the Canucks. He has 11 goals and 27 points in 126 NHL games for the St. Louis Blues, Columbus Blue Jackets and Canucks.

Pardy, 31, has one assist in 14 games this season for the Jets. He has four goals and 49 points in 329 NHL games for the Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars, Buffalo Sabres and Jets.

The Ottawa Senators' slim postseason hopes have just taken a major hit.

Top center Kyle Turris will be shut down indefinitely with a high ankle sprain he's been dealing with over the last several months, Senators GM Bryan Murray announced Monday.

Murray said the team could be shopping for a center to offset Turris' loss.

Turris later confirmed that the initial injury was suffered more than 12 weeks ago when his leg was twisted underneath New York Islanders forward Casey Cizikas. He then aggravated the injury in January in a game versus the San Jose Sharks.

He has eight points in 31 games since the initial incident.

Turris is unsure if he will return this season.

The Checkers will add defensive depth from a familiar source thanks to a trade made by the Carolina Hurricanes.

Charlotte’s NHL parent club kicked off its deadline-day activities by re-acquiring Dennis Robertson from the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday afternoon. In return, the Hurricanes sent veteran goaltender Drew MacIntyre to the Blackhawks.

Robertson, 24, played 57 games as a rookie with the Checkers last season, ranking second among team defensemen with 17 points to go along with 70 penalty minutes. Since departing the organization as part of a trade involving Kris Versteeg and Joakim Nordstrom just prior to the start of training camps in September, Robertson played 37 games with the Checkers’ Central Division rival, the Rockford IceHogs, scoring five points.

Robertson’s return bolsters a defensive unit in Charlotte that had taken early hits due to the sooner-than-anticipated graduation of rookies Brett Pesce and Jaccob Slavin to the NHL and, more recently, a long-term injury to Danny Biega that has keep the experienced blueliner out of the lineup since Jan. 3.

This marks the third time that Robertson, originally acquired by the Hurricanes along with John-Michael Liles midway through the 2013-14 season, has been involved in an NHL trade.

Meanwhile, MacIntyre, who ranks eighth in AHL history with 223 victories, departs after playing nearly two full seasons with the Checkers. The 32-year-old was 11-13-1 with a 3.09 goals-against average and .890 save percentage this season. His departure leaves the Checkers with just one goaltender, Daniel Altshuller, on the roster.

At the time of this announcement, Carolina had two hours remaining before the NHL’s trade deadline. The team kicked off its activity in earnest one day earlier, making a pair of trades, one of which could result in the Checkers adding Russian forward Valentin Zykov in the near future.

Bruins picked up D John-Michael Liles from Carolina and Lee Stempniak from New Jersey. No word on what is going the other way. Kinda bummed that they didn't get something for Loui Eriksson as he's almost certain to sign somewhere else after this season.

So this is how the Boston deals look.

To Boston: D John-Michael Lilies ( UFA after this season )

To Carolina: LW Anthony Camara ( UFA after this season), 2016 3rd round pick and a 2017 5th round pick

To Boston: RW Lee Stempniak ( UFA after this season )

To New Jersey: 2016 4th round pick and a 2017 2nd round pick

Not really thrilled with losing 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks for 2 middle-tier UFA's that will definitely not be back after this season but even more upset with not getting something of value for Loui Eriksson who will want too much to be resigned after this season. As much as I liked what Don Sweeney did prior to the season he really shit the bed at the Trade Deadline. :X
