Still haven't finalized the the rules for the 2016 version although I might just repeat what was used for the 2015 version. Any suggestions you have will be appreciated so just PM me anything you think of. Also - what date do you think we should start on ????

All right then - since 2015 is ending soon I guess I'll post the official rules for the 2016 Pool now:

- all picks must be received ( via PM so nobody can see them until all picks are posted ) by 6 pm Eastern on January 1st.  If one of your picks gets fired between the time you submit your picks and 6 pm Eastern January 1st then you can replace that pick and put your new pick anywhere on your list. All replacement picks must be submitted by 6 pm Eastern January 2nd. While there is no actual prize given to the winner I would think that S & W bragging rights is really the best prize of all.

- if one of your picks gets fired, gets reassigned within the organization or simply quits then you will get points. Simply put - if you pick a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager or GM and at some point he no longer has that position for any reason you will get points.

- scoring will be exactly the same as the 2015 version.  All " island picks " will be worth 2 points since it's hard to come up with a name that nobody else picks. I'm also going to be adding a " Sure Thing " pick. If you score with your 10 point pick then you will receive an extra 10 points but if your 10 point pick still has the same position on January 1 - 2017 then you will lose 10 points.

Good luck - based on the probable 2015 results you jabronis are gonna need it.

I have received picks so far from Count Grog, Benlen and Angelic Assassin. I will post everybody's picks once the 6 PM Eastern January 1st deadline passes.

Everybody from the 2015 Pool has now submitted their 2016 picks. Hopefully we can get a few more of the " sports guys " to join up this year.

How do you guys want to handle the Chuck Pagano situation ???? I think everybody had him on their list and a few guys have already replaced him but now the media is reporting that he won't get canned until after January 1st. Should we eliminate him from the selection process now since it's come out that he's done or just let everybody collect their points ????  PM me your opinion - majority rules but I need to make a decision pretty quick.

I vote to eliminate him just like what happened to us last year in the same situation.

By a 4-1 vote Pagano has been removed from consideration for this year's Pool. So everybody involved has a couple of choices - you can simply replace Pagano on your list or you can PM me a complete new list. Because this is happening pretty late I'll move the deadline up to 9 PM Eastern. I'll post all the picks after that time.

Well it looks like we'll have to wait until Saturday for Count Grog's replacement pick. Everybody else's picks have been locked in so hopefully nobody gets canned before the Count gets his pick in.

Yeah post them. Grog won't pick anyone that gets canned between now and when he sees the pick needs to be changed. Just bump up his picks one.

Wow - a late pick and he gets a good shot in at those of us that " live on this board daily " All right then - I'm just putting together the final list and will post it shortly. Since Count Grog doesn't ' live on this board daily "  he'll probably see it in a few days.

I'm kind of surprised by this...I mean, what did they expect the team would do this year with all the changes (and Kap being Kap).
Unless all that change was by his hand, and I don't think it was...

Coughlin is definitely out in New York. Some reports are saying he's been fired while other reports are saying that he's quitting. Regardless - a lot of points ( including a bunch of bonus " Sure Thing " points ) are being scored here.

I have to admit, my 9 point pick was more with my heart than my head.  The chances of the too-stable Giants firing both Coughlin & Reese (who deserved to be fired even more than Coughlin) were not that great, but I wanted to see Reese go so badly that I didn't want to miss the chance to capitalize. I predict it will be my undoing, unless the regular season ends in 2016 with Black Monday also falling in place. Otherwise, I'll lose right there.

Nobody had Lovie Smith, but he's such a fucking dope is anybody really surprised he got shitcanned?

How do some of these teams ever expect to get a decent coach though when they're firing guys every two years? Not that Lovie doesn't deserve it (he shouldn't be a HC) but that is no way to run a franchise.

My buddy is from Chicago and said, at the time the Bucs hired the Lovester, that "he's the worst coach in the league".  I watched a bunch of Bears games with him and agree that Lovie sucks, but the Bucs are absolute idiots, primarily for hiring the dope in the first place.

It's only unusual to me in the sense that the team played better than they did last year (at least I think they did), and that in itself is usually enough to get a coach a second year.

You guys don't have the " EDIT " option in this thread ???? I can do it and already have a couple of times. Maybe this is for the best as I don't want any of you cheaters to be tempted to change some of your picks.

I believe it was actually made like that to prevent potential shenanigoats in contest threads. It's no big deal not being able to edit...allows for the post count to get padded. :)

Maybe it's set up so just the person that started the thread is able to make edits ????

Can't be it.  If you look back at some of the contests, like WWE PPV's and golf tournaments, etc, you'll see people making changes to their picks before the start of the event.  It's not a big deal, just been curious why some would have the edit option and some wouldn't.

Always get a message that I do not have permission to edit my own threads in the forum.  also that I might be able to if i logged in which of course I am.  Logged out and logged back in to see if that made a difference but it did not.

I think I might have the answer - maybe there is a way that when you start up a thread in this section you can turn on / turn off the edit function for other posters. I've never done it and have never even looked to see if it's possible but it might be if you know where to look. If that's not it then we need beejmi to clear this mystery up.

Why in the name of logic is Benlen the only one smart enough to list the horrible Jim Caldwell, albeit as a 1 pointer?  We really fucked up on this one.

I'm done after CH gives out the "Dan Campbell points" as he's dead.  Payton and McCoy got extensions, although McCoy getting fired mid-season next year would not surprise me.  Reese is as good as alive as long as the season doesn't end in 2016.

Good one for me but the McCoy extension hurts me too, although he could get canned early next season if the Chargers start out lousy.

It's like the Dead Pool - sometimes the picks are so obvious that you just overlook them and sometimes regardless of their performance ( or age ) some of the bastards just keep hanging around.

Caldwell was coming off a winning first season with the Lions and after a horrible first half of the season improved dramatically in the second half when Billy Bob Thornton was hired.

I'm going to say the new GM Bob Quinn gives Jim Caldwell some rope but if next season starts off the same as this season Caldwell will be done.  Martin Mayhew was a piss poor GM and part of Caldwell's problem was as a result of questionable personnel decisions by Mayhew.

Head Coach Lionel Hollins and GM Billy King reassigned by the Brooklyn Nets. lobo316 gets 8 points ( 6 point pick + 2 point island pick ) for Hollins. On behalf of all Boston Celtics fans I would like to thank Mr. King one more time for the Pierce + Garnett trade and will be thinking fondly of you when Boston uses your 1st round picks in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

I guess a bunch of guys will now have to give back the points they got for Mike Mularkey as Tennessee has named him their ( for now anyway ) permanent Head Coach. I'll update the current standings after the Boston vs Toronto game.

Well, Mularky's lineage came from people of nonsense (or, in his case non-achievement). I'd feel better with a guy named Belichick (translated-stubborn genius) or Smith (can mean anything), you know?

Schurmur was named the TE Coach with Minnesota on January 25th so that's 9 points for you.

the Wild fire Mike Yeo

The Minnesota Wild have fired head coach Mike Yeo, the club announcedSaturday evening.
"I would like to thank Mike for the hard work and dedication he provided behind the bench for the Minnesota Wild organization and wish him the best in the future," general manager Chuck Fletcher said in a statement.
The dismissal comes following a 4-2 loss earlier Saturday against theBoston Bruins, Minnesota's eighth consecutive defeat.
The Wild have gone 1-11-2 in their last 14 games, falling to sixth in the Central Division and three points back of the Nashville Predators for a wild-card spot.
Mike Yeo was 173-132-44 with the #mnwild
— Michael Russo (@Russostrib) February 14, 2016
The Wild made the playoffs three years in a row under Yeo dating back to last season, but never made it past the second round during his five-year tenure.
Following Saturday's loss, Yeo clearly understood the predicament he was in.
Related: Wild's Yeo after 8th straight loss: 'I'm not freaking quitting here'
"I'm a realist," Yeo said. "You can't lose every game and expect to think that there's not going to be changes. I'm operating under the assumption that I'll be the coach tomorrow, and I know what I'm going to do and it's going to be something different from what we've done."
Minnesota has not yet named a replacement, but early reports indicate it will be John Torchetti, head coach of the AHL's Iowa Wild.
John Torchetti expected to named interim head coach in MIN, replacing Mike Yeo, fired earlier tonite. Torchetti coaching in AHL tonight.
— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) February 14, 2016
The Wild travel to Vancouver to face the Canucks on Monday.

I don't think anybody on our lists has been fired over the last 2 months so the standings still look like this:

Updated Standings as of July 1st - 2016
1 - Angelic Assassin ( 56 points )
2 - khawk ( 54 points )
3 - CanadianHorseman ( 53 points )
4 - lobo316 ( 50 points )
5 - HBF ( 47 points )
6 - Count Grog ( 38 points )
7 - Benlen ( 36 points )

Please check your picks ( on page 2 ) just to make sure I haven't missed anybody on your list.

Now being reported by ESPN. Looks official.

The Minnesota Twins fired general manager Terry Ryan on Monday, ending his second stint with the team.
The Twins announced that assistant GM Rob Antony will replace Ryan on an interim basis.
"The decision to part ways with Terry was difficult, painful and not obvious," Twins owner and CEO Jim Pohlad said in a statement. "We are extremely grateful and very thankful to Terry, his wife Karilyn and their family for being a part of the Minnesota Twins."
The Twins enter Monday's game against the Detroit Tigers with the worst record in the American League at 33-58. Minnesota is headed toward its fourth last-place finish in the last six years and has not reached the postseason since 2010, the year before Ryan returned as the Twins' GM.

Won't be official until Monday but Robin Ventura won't be back with the White Sox.  Not being fired technically, the White Sox just aren't extending his contract.  Not surprising really as the White Sox started the season like a house on fire and then went SAWFT,

The Chicago White Sox appear poised to part ways with Robin Ventura, as the club will reportedly name bench coach Rick Renteria its new manager on Monday, according to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times.

SAN DIEGO -- Mike Dee is out as president of the San Diego Padres, who were embroiled in a major controversy toward the end of another miserable season.

Managing partner Peter Seidler offered little insight into Dee's departure Wednesday. He denied Dee was fired, but wouldn't say whether Dee resigned or if it was a mutual decision.

Seidler said Dee's contract wasn't set to expire until August 2018.

Didn't see this one coming.

The Florida Panthers fired Gallant after Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, reports Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos.

It's pretty late in the year and all of the 'big point' firings have been done. Not much can happen to change the standings at this point.

I guess the wildcard here is Khawk has Chargers HC Mike McCoy (8 pointer) and I would say that a loss to Cleveland on Sunday could do the trick.

Let me go through and look. I was unaware of what the heck 'island' points are and were. [I see what they are now]

Also we have the firing of BOTH Rob and Rex Ryan so -- time for an update!

McCoy still hanging in there is San Diego!

With the 'Island' points, Grog has the lead.

Nobody had Rex Ryan. Really?

Mike McCoy in San Diego still a possible game-changer. Would have to get fired before the season finale though.
