Gimme a break, the White Sox are right about this.  Nothing in the statement seems unreasonable.  They were very respectful to the kid and never banned him.  They just said it's a bit much that he's there EVERY DAY.  But this is the best thing that ever happened to them because now they don't have to pay a .207 hitter $13 million this year.  The Yankees should start smacking around half the roster's kids.

President Ken Williams:

“There has been no policy change with regards to allowance of kids in the clubhouse, on the field, the back fields during spring training. This young man that we’re talking about, Drake, everyone loves this young man. In no way do I want this to be about him.

“I asked Adam, said, ‘Listen, our focus, our interest, our desire this year is to make sure we give ourselves every opportunity to focus on a daily basis on getting better. All I’m asking you to do with regard to bringing your kid to the ballpark is dial it back.’

“I don’t think he should be here 100 percent of the time - and he has been here 100 percent, every day, in the clubhouse. I said that I don’t even think he should be here 50 percent of the time. Figure it out, somewhere in between.

“We all think his kid is a great young man. I just felt it should not be every day, that’s all. You tell me, where in this country can you bring your child to work every day?”

His lack of production coupled with $13mm salary is reason enough for Sox fans to be ecstatic.

You got that right.

We have to stop signing players with the first name of Adam.

Red Sox fans are now hoping that Pablo Sandoval has a kid that likes hanging around the Clubhouse.

I think it's great that he loves his son that much that he wants him there but the work place especially a professional sports team isn't the place for a non employee to be.

This is probably LaRoche's career highlight, now.

From the stories I've heard from players (including a friend who pitches for a big league club)... I don't know if being in the clubhouse everyday is a good thing for anybody's kid.

Writers have been all over this; now and last year; as if this is some sacred father-son bond that makes you tear up. *fart*

The kid is now 14 years old - it's gone from cute to a bit weird.

Probably not - Kenny Williams is still the GM.

For Christs sake - the kid had his own freaking locker in the Chicago Clubhouse:

The Tigers make similar allowances for Victor Martinez and his son. Not sure if he has his own locker, but, one of the nice perks of being an MLB veteran!

edit- and I mean "nice" in the sarcastic sense......

true

as far as lockers, I think many players kids have them depending on the player.  I read somewhere Ortiz's kid has a locker in Boston

A lot of the Chicago media believe that Williams only went to LaRoche after several other players complained about the kid always being there. Williams is being " the bad guy " here because the players are too chicken-shit to go public with their stance. But of course now that there is a bit of backlash they're all totally behind LaRoche and love his kid.

from cbssports.com:

On Wednesday, we learned White Sox DH Adam LaRoche opted to walk away from baseball because a new team policy prevented him from bringing his 14-year-old son Drake into the clubhouse on an everyday basis. The White Sox want to prevent distractions, basically.

In an appearance on ESPN's Mike & Mike radio show, ESPN's Karl Ravech said White Sox players nearly boycotted Wednesday's spring training game because they were so upset LaRoche was leaving. You can listen to the interview here. Here's a transcipt:

"This is a team that was not going to go out and practice, and furthermore, this was a team that ultimately said to the manager 'We're not going to go out and play in that game at 1:00.' You had a team that was willing to stand by the player and not participate in practice, and more so, not participate in an exhibition game."
...
The decision by (team president Kenny Williams) to limit the amount of time that a child can be in that clubhouse didn't sit well with the players. I think now we have set up in Chicago a situation where managers and players are universally, universally in the same corner and president and GM perhaps could be very much in a different corner and the separation needs to be in place."

Ravech said manager Robin Ventura intervened and told his players to play Wednesday's game because it was their job, and because LaRoche would want them to do so. Several players took to Twitter to support LaRoche, including White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton and Bryce Harper, LaRoche's former teammate with the Nationals:

Adam Eaton@AdamSpankyEaton
Happy for @e3laroche and Drake.. Family comes first. Proud to have played along side such a great man/father. #Family #RoleModel
6:51 PM - 16 Mar 2016

Bryce Harper@Bharper3407
Good for you Roche! Nothing like father and son in the clubhouse..It's a FAMILY game #FamilyFirst
12:30 PM - 16 Mar 2016

Furthermore, staff ace Chris Sale reportedly met with Williams and had a very "contentious" talk.

By all accounts, LaRoche is a quality clubhouse presence and beloved by his teammates. There does seem to be some unhappiness among ChiSox players because LaRoche has been pushed out the door, and also possibly because they feel management shouldn't get involved with clubhouse matters. That's for the players and manager to decide, right?

It's up to Ventura and Williams to smooth things over, because an unhappy clubhouse is a great way to sink a season. Everyone has to be on the same page, from the players to the coaching staff to the front office. That clearly is not the case on Chicago's south side right now.
