Anybody ever call the 'WCW Hotline'?

I assume it wasn't totally kayfabed - and had 'backstage' news (arrivals, departures)

I've often wondered about this line, they plugged the hell out of it. I'd be curious to see what kind of money they made off this line

I called it!  Mean Gene told me Curt Hennig was coming to WCW, after he talked about playing golf and the great weather in the area for 5 min.  I think it wind up costing me like $7.

I had the super-secret backdoor number for a while and used to check it for free once in a while. Okerlund was always full of shit, but the other guys tried to pass along as much news as they were allowed to.

It must of made some money considering how long it lasted. Didn't it last 11 or so years? Of course this is WCW we're talking about, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was losing a ton of money per year either.

I can't imagine it ever lost money, the overhead for a 1-900 phone line can't be much and everyone on it was an employee (except for Steve Beverly maybe) I don't think sting was asking for more in his contract to record "straight up with sting"

Never called that, but I used to call the Coach Kurt hotline (Chicago, Detroit, Indy). Something like 976-6363 or something. Used to be like 35 cents a call, which added up quite quickly and was a lot on the phone bill for the parents back in the mid 80s. On Tuesday nights, he's had the television taping results which was always cool because you'd find out who was debuting for the WWF. He'd also remind you a couple of days before when to call. I remember calling that every 15 minutes during Wrestlemania 2 to get the results and try to find out if the Bulldogs won the belts. A simpler time, no doubt...before the internet and the sheets.

Wasn't there a free line in NY that provided the basic crap?

Of course when you got your phone bill, they would charge much higher. This could of been one of those situations.

I called Coach Kurt's line for years, although I don't remember it costing 35 cents.  I think it was just a local call for me otherwise my parents never would've let me call it.

The 1991 TV promo had me interested for a while, as they tolled off the daily features, the announcer got to "Missy... Hyatt!" which was accompanied by her very impressive wide grip lat pulldown in the gym. I must have rewound the VCR a time or two.

Yeah that was a pretty good side view of a lat pull down

I think these were some of the shows, one a day

Missy does the mail

Lex on the level

Straight up with sting

Mat watch with Steve Beverly

The Ross report

If you were already a sheet reader, I don't know why you'd want to pay extra to hear some carny BS. Far better to listen to Jim Ross's Sunday evening show on WSB, which could be received pretty much everywhere east of the Mississippi.
