We're pretty lucky.  Yesterday, my wife was making a left in her Lincoln Navigator and was almost though when a new driver (16 years old) ran a red light and hit her.  My wife was a split second from getting hit on the side direct but fortunately just took the hit on the back bumper.  I think it may just be cosmetic issues for us but the kid's car is totaled.  Both my wife and the girl were fine, and fortunately my children were with me at the time.

Anybody else nearly bite it in a wreck before?  I'd guess this thread could be long......

Not really bite it, but got a good laugh when the person who hit us fucked up their car.

We were up in Montreal in the summer of 2005 and were driving back down to Albany. So we're leaving the city and on this bridge which is having some construction on it and is reduced to one lane. So some douche who wasn't paying attention rear ends our rental car. He probably wasn't going more than 30 or so, but the damage to our rear bumper wasn't that bad, but this fuck completely crunched his hood and engine. Then he had the nerve to freak out at me, asking why " I " had stopped. I'm like......uhhh dipshit, cause the lanes went from 1 to 2, and I was letting the person in ahead of me from the other lane. Even the cop could tell he was a moron, and handed him a ticket for causing the accident.

Didnt even wreck but three weeks ago nearly the exact thing as HBF's happened to me - except I drive a Pontiac Vibe and the red light runner was a full sized city bus.

Yeah.

And my kid WAS with me.  Woulda hit me straight on but Jesus told me not to hit the gas just yet.

Glad it wasn't too serious, aside from property damage. That's the thing about auto wrecks, a second can make a huge difference.

Anyways, I was in one bad wreck in 1999. I was t-boned on the passenger side (no passengers in my car) and went crashing into a guardrail, which was destroyed. It was on an overpass. I wasn't injured, though I was pretty banged up for about a week. Both cars were totalled. Weirdest thing was my window was rolled down and I loss my glasses. I think they flew off my head from the impact and onto the freeway below.

I was in one several years back that I geuss, technically was my fault.

Tree-lined 4 lane street, with a center divider filled with shrubs and trees.  If you've been to Fresno, McKinley, by the airport.

Anyway, wreck on the other side of the median.  Traffic's slowed on my side.  I'm left lane.  I glance to my right to see what this fucker over here's doing - he's merging basically into me.  Split second.  This split second put me too close behind this pickup and all of a sudden a cop steps out INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC and puts his hand up to stop them on a dime.  I'm too close, can't do it, I rear end and go partially under the pickup, which was raised.  His rear bumper breaks my windshield.

My fault?  Sure.  Partially if not mostly the stupid fucking cop's fault, but hey.

What makes it worse?  I get a bill later for damage to city property.  What WHAT?  The pickup - driven by an undercover cop.  Nice.  Which explains why they left my pained ass laying in the median while they escorted him unscathed to the back of an ambulance for evaluation.  I learned later they were under the impression I'd been thrown from the fucking car and STILL operated this way.

Didnt have to pay for the damage to city property, being insured and all.  Fuckers.

I've been in some pretty wicked crashes as a passenger and only one as the driver.  Oddly enough, I haven't been in a bad wreck since I quit drinking over 20 years ago.

I was in a two car total wreck back in 1978 when a guy blew a red light because he was on a work-release program and was late for checking back into Cook County Jail.

Suffered a few broken ribs and was lucky it wasn't worse.

I'm 26 and never been in a car accident either as a driver or passenger. The only 2 times I've ever come close were once when I slid on some black ice and did a 180....but there was no one around and I didn't leave the roadway. The other time, someone clipped the side of my car while I was parked in a parking lot.

Now watch me get in one this week.
