The 2016 pool is still ongoing, and will end when the 2017 Royal Rumble starts, whereby the 2017 pool will begin. On that note, here are the rules and runners for the 2017 pool. Hopefully we will get more than 4 runners this year. I'll bump this post to the top every week until the deadline.

Rules for 2017:

Pick 12 names from the current (male) WWE and NXT rosters, ranked from 12 point pick to 1 point pick.
Plus 3 girls, plus 3 non-wrestlers (worth 4 points each)

+5 points if your WWE or NXT pick shows up in TNA
-5 points if your NXT pick shows up on Raw, Smackdown or WWE PPV
+5 points if your pick dies
-5 points if your pick wins the WWE World or Universal title
+10 points if your pick wins the NWA World Title
+2 for the first (or first group) of future endeavors

if a wrestler gets re-hired, they are back in play (inspired by those French guys managing to get released twice in a year)
double points if any of your picks are with a company when it goes out of business
double points for any releases in January 2018.

Deadline is the start of the 2017 Royal Rumble PPV, and the pool runs until the start of the 2018 Royal Rumble PPV.

Send your picks to me.

The TNA website doesn't have a roster list anymore.

The TNA roster wiki page is actually very accurate (that's how I confirmed the French guys were released), but it's certainly no big loss if TNA isn't included.

Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis-Bennett have departed TNA, PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple sources.

Their respective contracts expired in late 2016 and they had been working on per appearance deals over the last set of TNA TV tapings. TNA management had attempted to sign the pair to new contracts and according to one source, had agreed to terms with the company only to later inform TNA they would not be signing. So, the pair are already done and will not be working this week's TV tapings. The pair just appeared in the extremely entertaining Allie-Braxton Sutter wedding segment.

Maria Kanellis first broke into the business in 2004 as part of the WWE Diva Search. While she did not win, she impressed the company enough to be signed to a deal and by the end of the year, she was on the company's main roster. She left the company in 2010 and went on to record a musical project before making her way to Ring of Honor after becoming involved with her soon to be husband, Mike Bennett.

Bennett first broke into the business in the New England wrestling scene after being trained by Bob Evans. Bennett was hired by Ring of Honor in 2010. Bennett was initially rejected by the ROH audience but was able to take that rejection and use it to his advantage as he improved as a performer. Maria at his side only added to the heat and the pair soon became a very good act together, working for ROH and New Japan Pro Wrestling.

The couple left ROH at the end of 2015 when the company opted to let their deals lapse, leaving the door open for the pair to sign with TNA, where Mike was rechristened "Miracle Mike Bennett" and Maria became one of the central figures of the Knockouts division, doing some of her best mic work to date and being the impetus for the Allie character getting over with the audience.

Former TNA Knockouts champion Jade's deal with TNA has expired and she is now officially a free agent, PWInsider.com has confirmed. There is no word whether she will be working this week's Impact Wrestling tapings as the company has been working to have all the regulars appearing on the tapings signed to deals.

Jade, real name Stephanie Bell, 27, has been with the company full-time since 2015, initially debuted as a member of the Dollhouse with Taryn Terrell and Marti Belle. Once that group ran its course, Jade has been pushed as one of the focal points of the Knockouts division and has currently been feuding with Rosemary for the championship. She received a lot of mainstream media attention last year for speaking out against domestic abuse she has endured in the past.

Aron Rex (real name Aaron Steven Haddad) aka the former Damien Sandow is gone from Impact Wrestling. Rex had missed the last set of Impact Wrestling tapings due to a filming commitment with a movie.

Rex debuted in August 2016 for the company. PWInsider.com sources indicate that while it had been announced Rex had signed a deal with Impact (then known as TNA), he was never actually under a signed contract.

Wow, what a missed opportunity with him.  He came in as a red hot underutilized WWE star who the fans were begging to cheer for, within a month he was a stale mid-carder, and within a few months he was Liberace.  So TNA.

The funny thing is, he might be a prime candidate for NXT, following the Drew McIntyre route.

I'll miss Liberace Sandow. That gimmick made me laugh because it was so bad, and he was probably like "this is great, I have no idea why WWE wouldn't let me do this."

He hinted at retiring or taking a long break. He had gotten out of shape there in TNA too.

No chance, I don't think his heart's in it. To get back into WWE/NXT you really need to bust your ass and prove yourself. An unsuccessful few months in TNA does not a new NXT star make. Add him to Wade Barrett and Ryback as guys with potential who are done as far as ever making it in wrestling. I don't think Cody Rhodes will ever be back either. I can't see many TNA guys making it to WWE now with Jarrett in charge. Plus, the quality of wrestlers in TNA has taken a nose-five with the new indie scrubs they've brought in.

Cody will be back within 3 years, I'd bet on it.  He's a hustler, he's smart, he gets himself over online, he has the legacy, and a brother still working there who will likely go into the HOF one day.  He needs to cool off and do his own thing and then he'll return.

Sandow...we'll see.  I don't know how they left it.  If he left on good terms I could see HHH bringing him back with no promise of getting called up but just to be a good, over, veteran presence on the NXT roster and a mini-draw on house shows.  Keep in mind that the NXT roster periodically gets decimated all at once by call-ups (like right now) and a guy like him could be valuable at those times.  Not everyone in NXT has to be a future WWE champion.

And yeah, TNA roster quality is at an all-time low.  These new guys are all interchangeable indy scrubs, and presented that way too.  I've seen "luchadores" in their first match at high school gyms who have a better look than some of the guys TNA has brought in.

Potentially a very good thing for Aiden English. If he plays it right. Now he's not stuck jobbing with someone who pissed off the locker room, he can revive the Drama King gimmick and come down singing opera or whatever. Will be more over than silent movie villains which was always better in promo than in the ring.

They should send him back to NXT for 2-3 months to reboot his old gimmick, get some wins, and get him back over again.  Then they can call him up and try again.  But right now, he's seen as a jobber and his credibility is shot.  He's the Raw version of Tyler Breeze unfortunately.

He wasn't signed due to not passing the physical that was a requirement. That's when the injury was discovered. However he made it sound like he was promised that he would be signed as soon as he was healthy. I imagine he's testing it on the indies and will undergo another physical in a month or so and then be brought in.

I would have thought they would want to do this all in-house if that were the case. Smackdown has plenty of good wrestlers that they don't know what to do with, they have no reason to sign him.

Wonder if they just plug someone else in with the team. Decay is clearly Rosemary's breakout vehicle and Abyss and Steve were increasingly just kinda there.

Mauro has officially stated that he is done with WWE. A lot of people pretended that he was the second coming of Gorilla Monsoon, enough to get him the Observer's announcer of the year. I found him just as good or bad as anyone else in WWE. His "Mama Mia!" shit annoyed the fuck out of me, and he didn't give the product the serious sports tone that people were expecting.

He said his reason for leaving had nothing to do with JBL. Maybe it was having Michael Cole in his headset every week, that would make me quit my job.

Yoshihiro Tajiri announced on his Twitter account this morning that even though WWE doctors have cleared him to compete and he's been doing a little coaching in NXT, he decided that his age will be a major factor in WWE ever using him as a talent and he has made the decision to return to Japan.

Tajiri wrote:

It passed a few days, but it seems that it will not be announced easily, so from me ... injured in the knee owed in January, indeed it is all right without any problems at all, but while the doctor of WWE also gives OK, it is "Risky" When. Well, anybody who is a wrestler's body part who has been doing professional wrestling for many years is a matter of course.

as a company, considering my age of 46 years old, "I can not let the game go on at WWE." I wonder if it will be OK after a while? I tried waiting while doing coach of NXT, but it is still bad by all means. With that kind of amulet, I will return to Japan.

Even though it was only 4 months, I could return to WWE again, no regrets. Just one year ago I tried to try again at the end and I realized that my last youth I went to America ended now. Thanks to HHH and Legal teacher for moving to realize the return. Good-bye, and thank you. WWE, America.

Lord Steven Regal, barrister and secret agent for the Queen would have been a great accumulation of gimmicks. Could have represented IRS in court.

Those tweets were in Japanese. I assume pwinsider just used an online translator.

No one had Austin Aries, but Erick von Erich picked Jinder Mahal, so -5 points.

Former Impact Wrestling X-Division and Tag Team champions Rob Eckos aka Robbie E. has departed the company. According to multiple sources, Eckos requested and received his release from the company. He had signed a new deal with Impact when Anthem Media purchased the promotion, but after signing, was never used again on TV, instead touring with Pro Wrestling NOAH.F

I can't believe they fired Brian Hebner of all people.

It appears that all the refs are leaving because Impact is going with all local (Canadian) crew going forward.  Even many of the wrestlers used will be Canadian indy guys I hear, likely from Border City Wrestling.  I would imagine that HOFer Earl Hebner, who must get paid more than the others, would have to be gone too.  It makes no sense to keep paying him when the company is in super cost-savings mode.

Impact is quickly becoming a full-fledged collaboration of indies, not unlike the NWA, ironically.  Their TV shows are just cobbled together from clips of BCW, NOAH, AAA, and Crash now, and the edits aren't even smooth.  It's a fucking mess.

NXT talent Sawyer Fulton has been released.  He mainly trained at the PC and did house shows, but he was on TV a few times.

Impact Wrestling Hall of Famer Earl Hebner is also gone from the promotion. That means every referee for the company has now departed Impact.

Josh Bredl, who won a WWE contract in the most recent season of Tough Enough, was released by the company at the end of last week, PWInsider.com has confirmed.

Bredl had been rechrisitened Bronson Mathews after winning his WWE deal and moving to Florida to join the WWE Performance Center at the end of 2015. He had not been used in a long time and had not even been training at the PC after what was said to have been concussion-related issues.

I can't see srossi not winning this year. I'll post the list for the 2018 pool in a few days.
