Simple question: If (when he first got into politics) he had went by the name of "Barry" (Obama) instead "Barack" would that significantly help him today in his quest for the Presidency?

He's doing pretty damn good as Barrack so I don't see the relevancy of the question.  He's going to be President, how much better in politics could he have done?  At this point, I think everyone has gotten over the name.  Racists and xenophobes wouldn't have voted for him no matter what he called himself anyway.

I think he is getting in also. I think his name hurts him also though. Don't ask me to assign a vote percentage or anything like that to it. It's kind of tough to tell if/how much it affects him because the country (in general) is more leery than in the past of voting Republican again.

If it was McCain vs Obama and the previous eight years had been "Clinton" ... well I wonder.

The Obama name hurts worse than Barrack.  It rhymes with Osama.  He can call himself Barry all he wants, the rednecks that are dumb enough to worry about that sort of thing won't notice.  But they'll probably be distracted by roadkill on their way to the polls and won't vote.

I cannot figure out how Obama got to where he is now because he has come from the most corrupt city and county governments in the country.

Chicago is second to none when it comes to corruption and Obama started out with the blessing of the Daley Machine here.

I think I'll take a little Chicago corruption over Texas corruption.

The Texan isn't running this time.  Two wrongs don't make a right.

totally agree with you here. what happened to voting for the best person to do the job? there is way too much mudslinging from both sides and too much influence from CNN & FOX NEWS and the other news outlets. the stupid bible thumping folks and the holier than thou conservatives will vote for MCCAIN because god and FOX NEWS tells them to and uneducated blacks and white trash will vote for OBAMA because MTV AND BET tell them to. people need to do the research themselves and vote for the best possible candidate to help get america out of the mess that it's in now. become a freethinker and make-up your own mind and stop listening to others.

I am a registered indy who thinks both parties are full of shit.  I am voting for McCain.  I am just not comfortable with Obama but don't have anything against him either.

Hell, I'll take the guy who survived 5 years of torture.    I am voting for my Dem congressman because he does a great job.  I truly don't give a shit about party id.  Too many people seem to treat politics like a team sport.  The R's can't admit that Bush sucks and the D's overlooked a more qualified candidate.   Whatever.

Trust me, it isn't skin color.  If you knew anything about me, you would get a laugh out of that since my father was African American.  Just for the record, he passed on when I was young and my mother remarried.  It just so happens that I am very fair skinned so I get to see how racist people are when they think no one of color is around.  I have to say that, once again, party ID does not seem to matter. Frankly,  I have learned over the years  to not pay a lot of attention to that stuff.  I vote on feel, not party ID or race.  That is why I can say that I did not vote for Bush but did vote for Clinton twice.

I feel more comfortable with McCain. I have always liked him and was hoping he would be the candidate in 2000.  Nothing against Obama but I would have voted for Hilliary.  I'll take the Clintons anytime.  Anyway, at least it won't be Bush again.  That should make everyone happy.
