Lou Brock, the Hall of Fame outfielder and former stolen-base king, has been diagnosed with a form of bone cancer, the St. Louis Cardinals announced Thursday.
Brock revealed that he's currently undergoing treatment for Multiple Myeloma, and as a result was forced to cancel a scheduled appearance at Busch Stadium later this month.

The 77-year-old Brock went through another major health scare in October 2015 when his leg had to be amputated due to complications from his diabetes. He recovered from that operation successfully, and was able to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at a Cardinals game last April.
Brock recorded 3,023 hits during his 19-year career with the Cardinals andChicago Cubs, and retired as baseball's all-time stolen-base leader with 938. The Cardinals retired his No. 20 in 1979, and he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985.

Only real treatment for that one is a stem cell transplant, and up until five years ago they would only do it if you were a healthy candidate under the age of 70. It doesn't cure it just puts it in remission for 1-7 years or so.

Things mave have changed in the last five years regarding treatment however. That is just my experience with Multiple Myloma and how it works.

Hard to believe he is that old. I still remember him breaking the stolen base record.

Sad to here this. I loved Brock. I first started watching baseball during the 1967 World Series and Lou and Bob Gibson were the standout guys to me. My pops took me to my first MLB game in August 1968 with the Mets playing the Cardinals. First batter, Lou Brock. His heroics in the 1968 Series were extraordinary even though the Cards fell short that year. Get well soon Mr. Brock.
