Dothan, AL: Wednesday, 2 January 1935

• Southern Championship Match: Joe Dillman vs Leo Alexander
• Joe Gunther vs Benny Bolt
From the 31 December 1934 Dothan Eagle, regarding the Dillman/Alexander match: "With promoters deciding to put something at stake and give them something to fight for, the match has been made. Promoters will present the winner of this match a handsome belt that is made now and will be emblematic of the Southern championship.
Mac Scholder, former boxing and wrestling referee, who operates a jewelry store in Birmingham, is making a handsome belt that will be given to the winner of the match. Alexander, since he invaded Alabama three weeks ago, has beaten just about all his opponents. Dillman has for several years claimed the Dixie title.
Now for the first time, a real champion will be had. The winner of the Alexander - Dillman match will be given the belt and a formal requiest will be send to Colonel Harley Landry, president of the National Wrestling Association, for his sanction on the championship."

Fascinating as this is, the belt, match and championship were not mentioned after this article, either in the Dothan paper or in any other Alabama papers. Alexander met Dillman in several matches in the following weeks across the state, even in Dothan three weeks later, without any reference to either of them having been crowned "Southern champion". Due to all of the missing issues and pages of the 1930s Dothan Eagle, it is possible the card or match never actually happened, but no results or cancellation could be found. - [check Anniston from earlier in Dec 1934]
