Prior to the Ring of Honor War of the Worlds PPV went on the air, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling officials came to the ring.

In a special ceremony, Kevin Kelly introduced the different officials who were in the ring.  NJPW United States Ambassador George Carroll announced the company was introducing the IWGP United States championship and the first champion would be crowned at the 7/1 and 7/2 New Japan G-1 Special events in Long Beach, California.

The championship will be determined through a round robin tournmament held over the two nights.

They need to retire the NEVER Openweight title then. They have way too many belts now.

I think this one puts them ahead of all the Impact/GFW titles! The one thing I have NOT said while watching New Japan was "these guys need more belts."

Adding the 6-Man belts was silly, especially since ROH now also has 6-Man belts and the companies trade talent. They should unify them into joint NJPW/ROH 6-Man belts.

They`re trying to expand dong on the US so it doesn`t make less sense than any of the new belts the WWE is adding right now. But still unnecessary anyway.

Have '6 man' belts worked anywhere in the history of wrestling?

I typically like 6 man tags and I love the idea of a 6 man tag title but not if it's the 6th or 7th title in a promotion. I think the WWF in the 80's could have pulled it off with their giant roster of name talent and so few titles.

Let me guess. Von Erichs and Freebirds . Belt disbanded after they left. Currently above Steve Simpson's fireplace.

It had a nice run from 1982-1986. Mostly Freebirds and von Erichs of course but some other notable teams like Chris Adams, Gino Hernandez, and Jake Roberts.
