This thread is a multi-purpose thread in regards to NFL week one. Picks, fantasy talk, smack-talk, in-game chat, all is 'in play' here.

Lets take a look at the bookies current stance on things. You'll notice that since the lines were posted last May that many have changed significantly. Some teams are projected now as stronger (Philly) and others are projected as weaker (Jets tank? , Colts w/out Luck, Dolphins w Cutler)

Kansas City At New England (9)
NY Jets at Buffalo (9.5)
Atlanta (7) at Chicago
Jacksonville at Houston (5)
Philadelphia (1) at Washington
Arizona (1) at Detroit
Oakland at Tennessee (2)
Tampa Bay (2.5) at Miami
Baltimore at Cincy (3)
Pittsburgh (9) at Cleveland
Indy at LA Rams (3.5)
Seattle at Green Bay (3)
Carolina (5.5) at San Francisco
NY Giants at Dallas (4)
New Orleans at Minnesota (3.5)
LA Chargers at Denver (3.5)

Lol @ the Bills as a nearly 10 point favorite when they have zero offense besides McCoy.

Adrian Peterson is coming home to play the Vikings in his first regular season game as a Saint. Knowing how the Vikes perform in circumstances like this, AP having 136 yards rushing with 2 TDs en route to a 31-13 Saints victory wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Never saw a team favored by 9 that had a QB in concussion protocol

He's going to play. The funny thing is if he couldn't, Peterman would have been the lowest drafted rookie Opening Day starter since Randy Hedberg for Tampa in 1977.

and the ratings from last night are in and  ....they're way down.

With 21.8 million NFL fans tuning in, the kickoff of the 2017-2018 season was down 13% for the NFL and NBC from last year’s opener. Not only does that represent a very real smack down for the league and the net coming off a previous season that saw double-digit declines in its early months, but it is the worst an opening game has done in over five-years.

In fact, this is the first time in five years that the kickoff game has fallen below 25 million viewers. And, while the most watched network show in three months, even with streaming and other NBC platforms bumping things up to 22.2 million, the game still fell short of the 25 million mark.

All of which means a lot more is now riding on Sunday Night Football’s NY Giants and Dallas Cowboys match-up on September 10.

Because if those two mega-market teams can’t score ratingswise, the NFL has a real re-think on its agenda

Watching Colts vs Rams

Scott Tolzien may be the worst professional QB I have ever seen. Ever.

The Jets made no attempt in that game against the Bills. Todd Bowles is not only an idiot, but it was almost like he was deliberately losing for a top pick he will never see. Goes for 2 to tie the game with tons of time left, putting his team behind the 8-ball for the remainder of the game. Not to mention he kept punting on 4th down and short, 4th down at midfield. There's 4 minutes left and you're down by 2 scores! How do these maroons get these jobs?

The Bills are really bad too, but have LeSean McCoy.

Seven people are dead after awatch party( Dallas/New York) in Plano, Texas, according to DallasNews.com.
One of the seven dead is the shooter, per the report. Two others are wounded; their conditions are unknown.
"I've been here all my life," Plano police spokesman David Tilley told DallasNews.com. "I've never heard of anything like this."
The Cowboys played the New York Giants in Week 1 of the NFL season on Sunday night.

Some thoughts...

- Is Cleveland better, or did Pittsburgh just have a bad day? I expected a huge blowout.

- Houston looked terrible in the first half with Savage. When they put in Watson, the attitude changed. Everyone responded. They still lost, and he still made some rookie mistakes but he is their answer at QB. At least for now.

- Fantasy owners are shitting their pants this morning after the performance and injury to David Johnson. I am one of the lucky/unlucky owners who picked Johnson #1 overall.

- Fournette is the real deal in Jacksonville. However, they will literally kill him if they run him like they did on Sunday. He will retired in 3 years.

- If people say Zeke is only good because of the offensive line, take a look at the game last night when Alfred Morris was in. Same line, big difference.

My thought....

I know it's only week one, but rookie WR Galloday is making me wonder "Calvin who???"

Nice comeback by the Lions after that lousy 1st quarter.

I hope for Cincy's sake Dalton just had the worst day ever as QB. If the team is legit as bad as they looked...wow

Same with Eli Manning. Looked completely confused and frustrated, even moreso than usual. And the end of game "drive"...no urgency to try and score whatsoever even though they needed two scores inside a minute. Why not just take a knee?

Tom Savage sucks. Tolzien sucks worse. No way Kap shouldn't be playing in the NFL with those two on rosters. Kap is flawed but he can play a little. At LEAST better than those two.

Most of the games kind of boring this weekend really. Bad, bad, badder performances by some teams.

Raiders won. All that really matters.

I was in a fantasy football auction and nearly got David Johnson for $12 via the ESPN.com auction room because there was so much banter and trash talk going on that people got distracted. Somebody hit the bid button at literally the last millisecond to keep the biding alive and the guy eventually went for $60 or some such number. I was lamenting missing out. If that wrist injury keeps him out for a while. I won't feel as badly about it.

That was the main game I watched and I was impressed. Mariota and Tennessee did not play bad, the Raiders just played better, and I think the Titans are a pretty good team this year.
Good way for them to open the season.
Saints and Vikes should be interesting tonight.

Colts aren't as bad as they looked, they just have a very very very inept head coach. He never has his guys prepared.

That and rolling with Scott fuckin' Tolzien.

The Colts erred in not having a proper replacement for Luck on hand, forcing them to use Tolzien. However, I think Jacoby Brissett would have been in there from the start had he not arrived so recently.

I watched about 10 minutes of the New England game and not much else, we got the crappy Texans game and Seattle v Green Bay is of no interest. Giants and Dallas have always been channel changers to me.

I can get my football fix by watching college games that interest me as opposed to the couple of NFL games they make me choose from

Rams attendance was only about 33% of capacity.
Niner attendance was about 50% of capacity.
Any other team suffering from lower attendance?

Los Angeles fans don't care, unless the team is a legit contender nobody is showing up to Rams or Charger games. I have no idea what the rams were drawing last year but it will get worse.

ESPN tried to make a huge deal about a female doing the play by play of the 2nd game last night. But it blew up in their face and all the talk is making fun of how the sideline reporter was a guy from ESPN Deportes who couldn't speak English very well.

The trainwreck at ESPN continues.

The last 2 years Beth Mowins has been doing preseason  Raider games with Matt Millan. She's  ok.Sergio Dip the sideline reporter stunk. He was so bad (maybe because of nervousness ) that you can't  even joke about it.

First national game. Gayle Sierens did a Seahawks-Chiefs game for NBC in 1987.

She was fine, at least in comparison with what she had to work with. It's her first NFL game and they pair her with a rookie analyst who mumbled, and a sideline reporter who I thought was special needs until I looked him up and saw that he worked for Deportes. She's not a strong enough play-by-play for that. Even on college, she's more tolerable in seasons when she has experienced analysts like Ray Bentley. One year she was paired with Joey Galloway and it was a shitshow.

yeah the analyst wasn't good, I noticed that. I assumed brand new to the gig. She was ok, didn't distract or anything.

Preseason games must be where I've heard a female alling things before. Or maybe I'm confusing it with the one on baseball broadcasts. Commentators are mostly background noise to me these days.

Beth Mowins will be calling a game or two for CBS later in the season, paired with Jay Feely. They're considered the #8 team at the network, so they'll likely get one or two games, three at the absolute most. They'll be games of lesser importance, going to only a few markets.

The Saints-Vikings game last night was a full house. An odd few seats were open here and there as is always the case, but there were no mass no shows.

It was nice to see the defense keep the Saints in check until the offense got in gear. Everyone's greatest fear was that Adrian Peterson would have a monster game against the Vikes, but he was a nonfactor with 6 attempts for 18 yards.

I was fine with Dipp's little faux pas, but he recorded a video of himself in his hotel room, after the game. Basically saying: "errr...I'm Mexican. Biggest stage of all. The coaches were minorities, too. Errrr..... 9/11!" No need for any of that to enter his retort. Just laugh it off, have some fun with it and don't try to turn it into some "serious" social or political issue.

If you can't laugh at yourself, the world will.

And now big, bad, washed up ESPN folks like Bob Ley are mad at the trolling. I'm sorry Bob, but YOUR employer put him on the air when he wasn't fit for the job. I'm sure ESPN will try to spin this into a "anyone who laughed is a racist" thing since this has totally taken away from their Beth Mowins headlines they craved. But if you're going to turn everything into hashtags and trends, then suck it up when you toss someone out there that should not have been.

Imagine social media if it existed when Eric Dickerson did sidelines on MNF.
