i just went back and watched some Judo Superstar Billy Graham from 1983.

Graham was really horrible in the ring.  I think some of the jobbers that he was facing were better than Graham.

He was so awful, to the point that it was almost sad and pathetic. It was beyond comically bad. That goes for his short run in the AWA and his run in the WWF. I think he even got a title shot against Backlund.

When he came back in 82, he was strong. By 83, he was living in a hotel drugged out of his mind and not working out - all the muscle turned to flab. When he disappeared again and showed up in Florida, he was solid muscle again.

He had a three match series in MSG and the mags and TV played up Kung Fu Superstar Graham as the guy that would beat Backlund for sure.
I can't even imagine how disappointing He must have looked to the folks that saw those bouts live.
He was basically not much more than a name enhancement guy in his short AWA run from mid 83-very early 84. Got a few victories early in that run but it didn't take long for him to get moved lower on the show.

What the heck are you gentlemen even trying to say, KARATE MASTER Billy Graham is the greatest gimmick the WWE ever had. It took Monsoon`s "he knows some martial arts" bullshit line from that time he saw Battle Kat do a backhand chop to a whole different level.

In the 'Philadelphia Journal' Monsoon told the wrold that Graham had passed away (before his return back to the WWF)

But truth be told, people remembered Graham from before and he was such a legendary figure, and rematches between he and Backlund were kind of rare so the score was still 'unsettled'

Gorilla Monsoon, the originator of Fake News.  Graham probably pissed off Hillary.

He did a brief run in Crockett Promotions as well as Jimmy Valiant's tag team partner. I remember looking at the screen and a picture of him in PWI and thining "That's not Graham"

Steroids were his friend.

Not to be a contrarian, but I saw SSBG quite a bit in 1982 and early 1983 as I was at the majority of MSG shows during that time. He wasn't that bad. He just wasn't. He was booked strong at the Garden even going into a one and done mini-feud with Swede Hanson (yeah I know I know). After that he beat Jules Strongbow, lost by COWARDICE to Rocky Johnson, and was beaten by a white hot newly turned face Jimmy Snuka. Graham was ALWAYS a terrible worker even during his prime. It's true he wasn't nearly as big as in the mid to late 70's, but he certainly didn't stop going to the gym.

Depends on how you look at it.

If selling is 'working' Graham was great at it. If making the crowd believe that Tony Garea or Peter Maivia were  going to pull the upset and beat you, Graham was great at that also.
