I think from WWE's perspective, they just don't need a jobber under contract.  Any indy wrestler would give their left nut for an opportunity to job on Raw or SD! and then WWE only has to toss them like $50 for that night, so why pay someone a downside guarantee?  The business has changed so much from the '80s when jobber matches were routine, but none of those guys were under contract either.  Maybe Barry Horowitz finally got himself a deal after the Chris Candido win, but maybe not.  And as tamalie pointed out, that was actually close to the end for Horowitz in the WWF too.

Jobbers used to get over a hundred plus comp for travel to job on RAW and/or Smackdown

It was a good deal all around for him. He made some good money and got dynamite exposure, all from being a dorky looking guy who could take a beating.

For a brief moment his shirt was the top seller, so I'm sure he made some decent coin from that.

I'm sure he can piggyback a couple years worth of semi-lucrative indy bookings from this.

I'm remembering the Nasty Boys were jobbers in the AWA individually but as Verne kept losing his big names to WWF, he shortened Sags name (Sagonovich I think?) and turned them into a tag team.

I guess their post jobber success is the exception that proves the rule?

Back then especially guys almost always started as jobbers.  Shawn Michaels and Arn Anderson (using his real name Marty Lunde) jobbed in Mid-South as rookies, etc.  Lots of examples.

I think Sags was also used as a referee as well as a jobber his rookie year.

Apparently Vince had an idea to do Charlotte vs. Ellsworth at Wrestlemania where Ellsworth had become a full-fledged tranny.

So there's the LGBT "friendly" stories Stephanie promised!
