Pirates may be dealing Gerrit Cole to the Yanks for Clint Frazier and Chance Adams.

What can you tell me about Clint Frazier?  I am not too impressed with what I have been reading.
How about Chance Adams?

I would not make that deal.  Clint Frazier is a good one.  He can hit, good defender, some speed.  I don't know a lot about Chance Adams.

Chance Adams is one of their top pitching prospects. I'd prefer they didn't make this trade. I'd rather see Adams first.

For a Pirates fan, best description I have for Frazier is that he is all around more talented than McCutchen was at that stage of his career except for speed. He has plus speed but Cutch was projected to be a 50 base stealer every year. Frazier has a lightning fast bat, gold glove ability, and a great arm. If left alone he will hit 25 HR per year without question. If they fuck with him to try and get him to be a pull “jerk one out of the park” guy you will lose what makes him special. I’ve seen him compared to pre-injury Don Mattingly, which puts his potential way up there.

Gerrit Cole looked really good until late 2016, and last year was awful for the most part...Yanks would be hoping for 2014-2015 Cole but they are paying an awful lot for a “cost controlled mid rotation starter”. I don’t care about the SP they are giving back, Sheffield will be the real deal and they can trade Adams now if it makes them better. But I don’t know if this does

There was a death in his family that may have affected Cole's pitching last year.

I never heard that theory. I just think he relies on his fastball, and he needs another pitch. The one opposing rookie last season commented on how his teammates told him to sit and wait for fastball. He took Cole deep.

Cole has temperament problem on the mound. He gets pissed and just starts cranking it up and laying it over the plate. He throws harder, high 90’s, but it does not matter, because he lays them right in the wheel-house.

It turns out Gerrit Cole may not have ever been on the verge of landing in the Bronx.

According to Bob Klapisch, formerly of the Bergen Record, the New York Yankees are currently "nowhere" when it comes to making a trade for Cole, and were actually never close during their discussions with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Yankees reportedly consider their rotation to be set as presently constructed, Klapisch reports.

Reports last week indicated the Yankees and Pirates were working on a trade, with top outfield prospect Clint Frazier said to be the headlining piece going to Pittsburgh in return. There was also some talk of a possible expanded trade involving both Cole and utility man Josh Harrison going to New York for a larger package of prospects.

Days after the teams were said to be moving closer to a trade, however, it was reported talks had cooled and Pittsburgh was apparently discussing Cole with other interested teams.

Cole, who was originally drafted by the Yankees in 2008 but eschewed a contract with them to attend college, posted a 4.26 ERA while striking out 196 in 33 starts for Pittsburgh last season. The 27-year-old has another two seasons of arbitration eligibility remaining.
