FX has virtually full clearance on cable systems like USA has. FXX and FS1 do not, and in fact, FS1 is on a separate sports tier on my system. I get it, but a lot of people wouldn't. And WWE wouldn't be enough to get most people to subscribe to the extra sports package.

I think people are missing the fact that FOX is seriously looking at Raw for their actual network, not just their cable channels.  The other shows are a different story.

Yeah, my thinking was Raw on FOX and SD! on FS1, plus Meltzer said FS1 would also likely want specials to make up for the loss of UFC.

Some Reports are saying that Fox Amazon, and Youtube having conversations about WWE programming coming to their networks.

Disney has also had conversations with Triple H over the past week with Disney showing HUGE interests in acquiring WWE programming.

Stephanie largely shut that down saying that although all options are open, they do believe it's best to stay on TV for now with the flagship shows.  I've even heard there's interest from Facebook and the Mixed Match Challenge is a pilot to see how that would work out.  But it's not going to happen.

Again, very early in the negotiations and the more interest WWE has the more leverage they'll have to get the deal they want.  I wouldn't be surprised if they use these Internet and streaming options to up the bidding and show the real players like USA and FOX that they're not dependent on traditional TV, but that's really what they want.

It would be interesting if Disney would get the WWE Shows.

WWE on Fox would die a brutal death. The WWE's Saturday Night's Main Event shows on NBC a decade or so ago were disappointments in the ratings which is why they stopped happening. Network TV is a tougher game than it used to be and it was tough to begin with. If Raw goes on Fox and does poorly enough in the ratings, the network would not think twice about yanking it which would be a major embarrassment for the WWE and render the product damaged goods in the eyes of another TV carrier. FX would be by far the better place to go in the Fox family of networks.

Primetime Network TV costs a ton of money to advertise on.  I cannot imagine that the advertisers on USA that support RAW would move over to Network TV, nor do I believe that your average Network TV advertiser would want to have spots placed on RAW as it's not their true demographic.

Reading above that Disney has met with HHH.  Would that mean they want RAW for ESPN?

ESPN is the #1 rated cable network, but where would you place Raw? From early September to end of December Monday Night Football is on the main ESPN channel and is on through the 2021 season. I reiterate from past threads that the revenue from per subscriber costs to cable and satellite carriers is tied to delivering the NFL. The rights to highlight footage on the various SportsCenter, debate, and NFL centric shows on ESPN is tied to that MNF deal (ESPN can show far more footage than say FS1 or NBCSN for instance). So I see the ESPN deal with the NFL being renewed from 2022 onward. ESPN also has the College Football Playoff Championship Game on a Monday night. College basketball gets the Monday night spot after that.

That would put Raw on ESPN2 which is in fewer homes and gets lower ratings. The pressure to perform would be less, but the exposure less too. The WWE would also have to face the fact that some people at ESPN will firmly not want it on the channel at all. A regime change is already occurring with John Skipper going and a permanent replacement yet to be appointed. What if a new person, in the near future or a couple of years down the line, shares the same opinions of pro wrestling as Jamie Kellner did when he took over TNT and TBS? Kellner decided pro wrestling was low quality, drew in an audience the ad buyers didn't want, and was off brand for how the two channels were being positioned. So he cancelled Nitro and Thunder, effectively killing any chance of WCW surviving. ESPN does not feel like a good fit to me.

FX and FXX are going to ABC/Disney in the merger, so they won't have that option. So leaves broadcast Fox or FS1.

Can't see the WWE going to ABC/ESPN/Disney for pretty much the same reasons Tamalie does, BUT they will have all those regional ex-Fox Sports nets to play with. (They're going over in the merger, too)

I could see Disney putting Raw and Smackdown on FX.

Assuming the deal goes through, the problem with trying to broadcast anything on the regional sports nets are the commitments those channels have to airing local sports.

For example, my regional sports net is Fox Sports North which has a spillover channel Fox Sports North Plus for when two big events occur simultaneously. It has the rights to Twins, Wild, and Timberwolves games. It also has Lynx WNBA games (before you knock it, they have 4 titles and 6 finals appearances in the last 7 seasons and have become a big deal locally) and Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey (games in a nice arena draw 9,000 plus and they are on a level in their sport of Kansas in hoops or Michigan in football). If Raw aired at the same time as one of those games, it could conceivably go to the alternate channel, but conflicts are a frequent occurrence as is, meaning Raw would get bumped entirely.

Every Fox Sports Net regional channel has at least one of MLB, NBA, and NHL, often two or all three. There also markets with regional sports nets outside of Fox such as those owned by NBC, AT&T, Spectrum, and others. There is no way to get national coverage for any shows this way.
